Recreational
On January 1, California became the country’s largest state to permit the recreational use of marijuana. But the drug is not legal under U.S. federal law.
Recreational comes from the word recreation, an activity you do for fun when you are not working.
When talking about a drug, “recreational” means it used for pleasure, not medical reasons.
