In October thousands of migrants fled their homes in Central America and began walking toward Mexico and the U.S. border.

Caravan

Many migrants were traveling to seek asylum in the United States.

Some in the caravan walked more than 4,000 kilometers.

After reaching the Mexican town of Tijuana on the U.S. border, hundreds are still waiting to apply for asylum.

In this example a caravan is a group travelling together on a long journey.

Historically a caravan describes travelers through the desert or hostile areas often for trade purposes.
