Asking questions in the passive voice (Part 2 of 2)

So, let’s look at this grammar in more detail. A normal or active question, looks like this. Did Tom kill Ally? Here Tom is the subject, which did the action. Kill is the verb and the object which received the action is ally and it’s a question in the past tense; easy, Right? So, the passive changes the order of the sentence. The object takes place of the subject. So, the object which is now the subject. Ally comes to the start. Now, we need a verb both sides of the subject and which two things do we use on a passive? Be, and a past participle.Be goes before the subject. But, which form of Be? Well, it’s in the past tense and it’s singular. So, “was” and the verb is in the past participle form or verb three form. So, kill becomes killed and goes just after. After the verb we need by. So, the whole question looks like this. Was Ali killed by Tom? I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t me. So, yeah if we don’t care about the subject this question, Are you arresting me? Can, become this question. Am I being arrested? Remember, if we don’t care about the subject just don’t say it.

In present perfect this question, Have the police arrested you before? is a good example of using the passive because, the subject is obvious. So, we won’t say it and it becomes this question. Have you been arrested before? No, never. No.

In the future tense this question, Will you send me to prison? In the passive for the future becomes this, Will I be sent to prison? And these are all questions with yes or no answers. But, with a question word, where, what, who, when, why, those are easy too, just put the question word at the beginning of the question. For example, who is going to kill tom? That’s an active question. But, in a passive looks like this, who is Tom going to be killed by? Happy with the grammar? Ok. Test time.
