1) When people moved to a new place, some have trouble adapting to that new environment. They get sick because they’re not accustomed to it.

2) A contagious disease − for example, the chicken pox − can spread quickly through school. First, one student gets it, then another, and so on.

3) My husband has a strong immune system, so he rarely gets sick. He’s able to resist the germs and bacteria that could harm him.

4) Matt’s four-year-old niece caught a cold after she was exposed to a friend who was sick. They had shared toys and food all day.

5) The incidence of AIDS continues to rise in some countries. There are many new cases every year.

6) Cold viruses are transmitted when someone sneezes or coughs. The viruses move quickly through the year.

7) Good nutrition and clean water are crucial to good health.

8) Our professor suddenly became very sick. The doctors didn’t think he would recover, but within a week he felt much better.

9) Angela was worried about her final exam. The stress gave her a headache and she couldn’t sleep.

10) If we have adaptive immunity, our bodies are familiar with the microorganisms around us and we can fight them off.

11) There are things we can do to promote good health, such as exercise regularly and not smoke.

12) Dr. Jim gave the man a flu vaccine to prevent him from getting sick.
