This week we have a clip from Big Bang Theory for star Wars fans with James Earl Jones, who of course played Darth Vader, and Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia.

So, let’s jump into a galaxy far, far away.

Step1 :

• Let me guess.

• You like Star Wars.

• You know, I’ve been in other movies.

• But you don’t care about those, do you?

• I have one thing to say to people like you.

• l like Star Wars, too.

• Care to join me?

• Thank you. My friend Leonard said if I bothered you while you were eating, you’d think I was a creepy stalker.

• Well, your friend Leonard sounds like a real weenie.

• He is, Mr. Earl Jones, he is.

• You know, when I first read the script for Empire Strikes Back and Darth Vader told Luke he was his father, I thought for sure he was lying.

• Me, too. But he wasn’t, was he?

• He was not. How messed up was that?

• So messed up.

• What do you say let’s go have some fun?

• My wife’s in New York, and I got a Lion King, residual check burning a hole in my pocket.

• Hey, Los Angeles. I’m on a Ferris Wheel with Darth Vader.

And he’s nicer than you think.

• I am!

• In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight…

• Ah-wimoweh, ah-wimoweh…

• Bring it home, Mufasa. Eee, eee, eee, eee, eee,um, um-a-weh.

• I don’t understand what we’re doing.

• Whose house is this?

• Carrie Fisher. And she’s a little crazy, so get ready to run.

• It’s not funny anymore, James.

• Then why am I laughing?

• Ah, Sheldon, this is the perfect end to a perfect night.

• Okay.

• But I think it could have ended with the karaoke.

• What were you trying to ask me at the strip club?

• Oh. How much does it cost to get them off my lap?

• No. Something about a convention.

• Oh, right. Well, my friends and I couldn’t get into Comic-Con this year, and I was trying to start my own convention, and I was going to ask if you would be a panelist.

• Why don’t you and your friends come to Comic-Con with me?

• Really?

• Of course. And San Diego is right across the border from my favorite city on Earth, Tijuana, where I’m taking you every night.

• Ay-yi-yi.

• Ay-yi-yi, bang-bang.

• But you don’t care about those, do you?

Narrator :

To care (about something):

To be interested in something and feel that something is important.

Often times this phrase is used with ‘not’.

Example : She doesn’t care about what other people say.

• Care to join me?

Narrator :

(Would you) care to… :

In a question form, this phrase is used to invite someone to do something in a polite way.

Example : Would you care to check what time the next train arrives?

• My friend Leonard said if I bothered you while you were eating, you’d think I was a creepy stalker.

Narrator :

To bother:

To annoy or irritate someone;

Sometimes also used to sound polite when asking someone to do something for you.

Example : Sorry to bother you, but do you know the way to the bus station?

A creepy stalker:

To stalk is to follow, watch, and even harass someone, often without them knowing about it.

A creep or a creepy person is someone who acts weird in a way that scares you.

Example : She has a creepy secret admirer that apparently has been stalking her for some time now.

• Well, your friend Leonard sounds like a real weenie.

Narrator :

Weenie:

Slang word for a person regarded as weak, socially inept, or boring.

Example : He’s such a weenie! He never goes out with us because he’s always studying!

• You know, when I first read the script for Empire Strikes Back and Darth Vader told Luke he was his father…

Script:

The written text actors study their lines from to know what to say and do in a movie or play.

• How messed up was that?

Narrator :

Messed up:

If something is messed up, it is strange, weird, or confused.

A more vulgar way to say this is fucked up.

Example : He drinks his coffee with French fries. That’s just so messed up.

• But he wasn’t, was he? = bud-e wasn’t, was-e?

• My wife’s in New York, and I got a Lion King, residual check burning a hole in my pocket.

Narrator :

There’s a Lion King residual check burning a hole in my pocket:

James Earl Jones, the actor here, played the voice of Mufasa in the famous children’s movie, the Lion king.

A residual check is royalties, or continuous money coming in from past work that continues making money.

Burning a hole in my pocket is an expression used to say that he has money he’s anxious to spend.

Narrator :

Ferris Wheel:

A large, vertical wheel that is a common amusement park ride.

• And he’s nicer than you think = an-e’s nicer than you think.

• Bring it home, Mufasa. Eee…

Narrator :

Bring it home, Mufasa:

A phrase used to encourage someone to finish something in an impressive or remarkable way.

Mufasa was the character in Lion King that James Earl Jones did the voice of.

Not: The song they’re singing, In the Jungle, The Mighty Jungle, is the song from Lion King.

Example : You’ve studied hard all year, and now you just need to bring it home with a strong performance on the final test.

• Carrie Fisher. And she’s a little crazy, so get ready to run.

Narrator :

Carrie Fisher:

Carrie Fisher was an actress but known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films.

• Oh. How much does it cost to get them off my lap?

Narrator :

Get them off my lap:

It looks like Sheldon was given a lap dance, which is an erotic dance performed on the lap (the top of one’s legs when sitting down) of the person that pays for it at a strip club.

Judging by his reaction, Sheldon had no interest in it and even wanted to know if by paying he could actually stop the lap dance from happening at all.

• Oh, right. Well, my friends and I couldn’t get into Comic-Con this year, and I was trying to start my own convention, and I was going to ask if you would be a panelist.

Narrator :

Get into:

To acquire entrance into a place, or an institution, especially when it’s difficult.

Example : They managed to get into the event without paying.

Comic-Con/ Panelist:

A convention about comic books and comic book culture, in which comic book fans gather to meet creators, experts, and each other.

At the convention, James is going to be a panelist, which is to help lead a public discussion.

• Ay-yi-yi.

Narrator :

• Ay-yi-yi:

American phrase that originates from Mexico.

People say this when they’re overwhelmed or frustrated, which is how Sheldon feels after being invited to a party in Tijuana, Mexico.

Narrator :
