Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English, and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson.

Okay, in this lesson I’m going to tell you the same story three different times but each time I tell you the story I’m going to change the point of view. So first I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present. So let’s start.

There is a guy and his name is Andre and Andre owns a car but unfortunately, Andre is unable to drive that car. He is unable to drive the car because the car is a lemon. So Andre needs another car.

Well, Andre has a brother and his name is Mark and Mark offers to sell Andre his car. He offers to sell him the car for $5,211. And it’s a very nice car and Andre likes the car a lot. And Andre has exactly $5,211. But Andre does not buy the car from Mark. Andre doesn’t buy the car because he doesn’t want to break the bank.

Well, later that day, Andre learns about a dance competition. The dance competition is going to be held in one week and it’s going to be held at Andre’s school. And the winner of the competition is going to receive a new car.

Well, Andre really wants to win the dance competition because he wants a new car but there’s a problem. Andre does not know how to dance. Yeah, he does not know how to dance.

One year before now, Andre’s girlfriend asked Andre to take a salsa dancing class with her but Andre said no. He said no because Andre is a stick in the mud.

Well, Andre only has one week to learn how to dance so he watches some dance lessons on the website LearnRealDancing.com. And each night after that, Andre cuts a rug in his bedroom but unfortunately, Andre has two left feet.

Well, on the day of the dance competition it snows a lot. It snows so much that there is 12 feet of snow on the ground. So no one is able to drive a car that day and that doesn’t really matter to Andre because Andre cannot drive his car anyway because his car is a lemon.

So Andre walks to the school for the dance competition and when he arrives at the dance competition he sees the two judges for the competition. And the two judges ask Andre to dance for them. So Andre dances for the judges. And his dance performance is terrible because, remember, he has two left feet.

But after he finishes dancing, the judges congratulate Andre on winning the dance competition.

You see, all of the other dancers are at home because they’re unable to drive to the school for the competition. Andre is the only dancer to participate in the competition so Andre wins the competition and that means he wins a new car.

Okay, so that’s the end of our first story in this lesson. Now in that story I told you the story as if it is happening right now in the present. Next, I want to tell you the story as if it will happen sometime in the future. So let’s start.

37 years from now in the future there will be a guy and his name is going to be Andre. And Andre’s going to own a car but he’s going to be unable to drive the car because the car is going to be a lemon. So Andre’s going to need another car.

Well, Andre’s going to have a brother and his name is going to be Mark. And Mark is going to offer to sell his car to Andre. He’s going to offer to sell it to him for $5,211 and Andre’s really going to like the car and he’s going to have exactly $5,211. But Andre is not going to buy the car.

He isn’t going to buy the car because he’s not going to want to break the bank.

Well, Andre is going to learn about a dance competition. The dance competition is going to be held one week later and the dance competition is going to take place at Andre’s school. And the winner of the dance competition is going to get a new car.

Well, Andre is going to want to win the dance competition because he’s going to want the new car but there’s going to be a problem. Andre is not going to know how to dance.

And what’s funny is that one year earlier, Andre’s girlfriend will have asked him to take a salsa dancing class with her but Andre will have said no because Andre is going to be a stick in the mud.

Well, Andre isn’t going to have a lot of time to learn how to dance. He’s going to have just one week. So he’s going to watch some dance lessons on the website LearnRealDancing.com. And each night after that Andre is going to cut a rug in his bedroom but there’s going to be a problem.

Andre is going to have two left feet.

Well, after he finishes dancing, the judges are going to congratulate Andre on winning the dance competition. You see, none of the other dancers are going to come to the school that day because they’re not going to be able to drive to the school.

Andre is going to be the only dancer to participate in the competition and because of that, he’s going to win the competition and he’s going to get a new car.

Okay, so that’s the end of our second story in this lesson. Now in that story I told you the story as if it was happening in the future. So there’s one more story in this lesson and in this next story I’m going to tell you the story from Andre’s point of view, alright? Alright, so let’s start the story.

Hello, my name is Andre and I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time I owned a car but I was unable to use the car. I was unable to use the car because the car was a lemon. So I needed another car.

Well, I had a brother and I still do have a brother and his name is Mark. And Mark offered to sell me his car for $5,211. And it was a very nice car and I liked it a lot and I actually had exactly $5,211. But I decided not to buy the car. I didn’t buy the car because I didn’t want to break the bank.

Well, that day I heard about a dance competition. The dance competition was going to be held one week later and it was going to happen at my school. And the winner of the dance competition was going to receive a new car.

Well, I really wanted to win the dance competition because I wanted a new car but there was just one problem. I didn’t know how to dance.

And what’s funny is one year before that time my girlfriend had asked me to take a salsa dancing class with her, but I said no at that time because I was a stick in the mud.

Well, I didn’t have a lot of time to learn how to dance so that day I watched some dance lessons on the website LearnRealDancing.com. And every night after that I cut a rug in my bedroom but there was a problem. I had two left feet.

And after I was done dancing the judges congratulated me on winning the dance competition.

You see, all the other dancers had stayed at home because they were unable to drive to the school for the competition. I was the only person, the only dancer I should say, to participate in the dance competition so I won the dance competition and I was given a new car.

Okay, so that’s the end of our third and final story in this lesson.

So I want you to listen to this lesson every day for at least one week. And as you listen to each story, I just want you to understand what’s happening in the story.

And one other thing, I want you to remember the point of view that the story is being told from, okay?

It’s very important that you do that because some of the words in the story change as the point of view changes and as you listen to each story more and more, you’ll start to better understand how and why these words change as the point of view changes.
