Money Hungry – Point Of View Lesson
Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson. Okay, so in today’s lesson I’m going to tell you the same story from three different points of view. First, I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present. So let’s start.
There is a man and his name is Kevin and Kevin has a son and his name is Charlie. And Charlie is the spitting image of Kevin. Well, Kevin loves his son Charlie very much but unfortunately Kevin is unable to spend a lot of time with Charlie because Kevin always has a full plate. Well, Kevin always has a full plate because he has two jobs. Yes, that’s right. Kevin has two jobs.
At night Kevin works as a cook at an Indian restaurant and after that Kevin works the graveyard shift at a gun factory. And although Kevin has two jobs, he doesn’t need to work two jobs. Kevin doesn’t need to work two jobs because he has a lot of money already. But even though Kevin already has a lot of money, he still works two jobs because he’s money hungry.
Well, Charlie loves camping so one day Charlie asks Kevin to take him camping. And unfortunately Kevin is unable to take Charlie camping that week because Kevin already has a full plate that week. But Kevin promises to take Charlie camping the next week.
Well, a man named Anup owns the Indian restaurant at which Kevin works and Anup is a very nice man. And Anup also has a son and Anup believes it is important to spend time with family. So Anup wants Kevin to go on vacation with his son Charlie.
Well, at the gun factory Kevin’s boss is named Bruce and Bruce is nothing like Anup. Bruce is a very mean man and Bruce is eight feet tall and he never smiles. And Bruce has a short temper.
Well, Bruce tells Kevin that he’s not allowed to go on vacation so Kevin quits. Kevin quits his job at the gun factory.
But after Kevin quits his job at the gun factory Bruce tries to shoot him. Yes, Bruce tries to shoot Kevin with one of the guns from the factory. So Kevin runs to his car and he quickly drives away.
And fortunately Kevin does not get shot by Bruce.
Well, the next week Kevin and Charlie go camping and they have a lot of fun together. And Kevin realizes that spending time with his son is far more important than money. So after that Kevin and Charlie spend a lot of time together and Kevin promises never to be money hungry ever again.
Okay, so that’s the end of our first story in this point of view lesson. In that story I told you the story as if it is happening right now in the future…in the present, excuse me. Next I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening in the future. So let’s start.
Eleven years from now in the future there will be a man and his name is going to be Kevin. And Kevin is going to have a son and his name is going to be Charlie. And Charlie is going to be the spitting image of Kevin. Well, Kevin is going to love his son Charlie very much but unfortunately he isn’t going to be able to spend a lot of time with him because Kevin is always going to have a full plate. Kevin is always going to have a full plate because he’s going to have two jobs.
At night Kevin is going to work as a cook at an Indian restaurant and after that Kevin is going to work the graveyard shift at a gun factory. And although Kevin is going to have two jobs, he isn’t going to need to work two jobs. Kevin isn’t going to need to work two jobs because he’s already going to have a lot of money. Yes, Kevin’s going to have a lot of money but he’s still going to work two jobs because he’s going to be money hungry.
Well, Charlie is going to love camping so one day Charlie is going to ask Kevin to take him camping. But unfortunately Kevin will be unable to take Charlie camping that week because Kevin is already going to have a full plate that week. But Kevin will promise Charlie to take him camping the next week.
Well, a man named Anup is going to own the Indian restaurant at which Charlie works and Anup is going to be a very nice man. And Anup is also going to have a son and Anup is going to believe that it is very important to spend time with family so Anup is going to want Kevin to go on vacation with his son Charlie.
Well, at the gun factory Kevin’s boss is going to be named Bruce. And Bruce is not going to be anything like Anup. Bruce is going to be a very mean man. Bruce is going to be eight feet tall and he’s never going to smile and Bruce is going to have a short temper. Well, Bruce is going to tell Kevin that he’s not allowed to go on vacation so Kevin’s going to quit. Kevin’s going to quit his job at the gun factory.
But after Kevin quits his job, Bruce is going to try to shoot Kevin. Yes, Bruce is going to try to shoot Kevin with one of the guns from the factory. So Kevin is going to run to his car and he’s going to drive away quickly. And fortunately Kevin is not going to be shot by Bruce.
Well, the next week Kevin and Charlie are going to go camping and they’re going to have a lot of fun together. And Kevin is going to realize that spending time with his son is far more important than money. So after that Kevin and Charlie are going to spend a lot of time together and Kevin is going to promise to never be money hungry ever again.
Okay, so that’s the conclusion of our second point of view story. Now in that story I told you the story as if it was going to happen sometime in the future. Okay, so I have one more story for you in this lesson. In this next story I’m going to tell you the story from Kevin’s point of view and the story is going to be told as if it has already happened in the past. So let’s start the story.
Hello, I am a man and my name is Kevin and I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time, I already had a son. I had a son and his name was Charlie and Charlie was the spitting image of me. Well, I loved my son Charlie very much but unfortunately I was unable to spend a lot of time with him because I always had a full plate. Well, I always had a full plate because I had two jobs. Yes, I had two jobs.
At night I worked at an Indian restaurant as a cook and after that I worked the graveyard shift at a gun factory. And although I had two jobs I didn’t need to work two jobs. I didn’t need to work two jobs because I had a lot of money. But even though I already had a lot of money I still worked two jobs because I was money hungry.
Well, Charlie loved camping so one day Charlie asked me to take him camping but unfortunately I was unable to take Charlie camping that week because I already had a full plate that week. But I promised Charlie to take him camping the next week.
Well, at the Indian restaurant the owner was named Anup. The restaurant was owned by a man named Anup and Anup was a very nice man. And Anup also had a son just like me. And Anup believed that it was important to spend time with family so Anup wanted me to go on vacation with my son Charlie.
Well, at the gun factory my boss was named Bruce and Bruce was nothing like Anup. Bruce was a very mean man. He was eight feet tall and he never smiled and Bruce had a short temper. Well, Bruce told me that I wasn’t allowed to go on vacation so I quit. I quit my job at the gun factory.
But after I quit my job Bruce tried to shoot me. Yes, Bruce tried to shoot me with one of the guns from the factory so I ran to my car and I quickly drove away. And fortunately Bruce did not shoot me.
Well, the next week I went camping with Charlie and Charlie and I had a lot of fun together. And I realized that spending time with my son was far more important than money. So after that I spent a lot of time with Charlie and I promised never to be money hungry ever again.
Okay, well, that’s the end of our third and final story in this lesson. In that story I told you the story from Kevin’s point of view and I told you the story as if it had already happened in the past. So I want you to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days. The goal here is for you to learn this material deeply so you may even need to listen to it for more than seven days, okay? But as you listen to each one of these stories, I want you to remember the point of view that the story is being told from, alright?
Okay, that’s all for this point of view lesson then. I’ll see you next time.
