Life Review - VIP POV

Hi, this is AJ. Welcome to the point-of-view stories this month. Let’s start. Same story, just different points of view, different perspective. The first one I’m gonna just talk about it as if it’s just generally happening in the present.

So Heva and Chim-chim become famous. They become rich and famous and then they make a lot of famous friends. One of their famous friends is Richard Branson, the guy who owns Virgin America, Virgin Airlines, and he invites them to a party on his yacht and, of course, they accept his invitation and they go to his party.

Paris Hilton is also at the party and during the party a journalist takes a picture of Heva talking to Paris Hilton. The next day the journalist publishes a story in the newspaper with a headline that says ‘Heva’s New Squeeze’ and it has a picture of Heva and Paris Hilton talking to each other. So Heva’s new girlfriend with the two of them talking.

Heva is upset, but his girlfriend is irate, super upset, super angry, so Heva decides to sue the newspaper for libel. He takes them to court and he sues them libel and Paris Hilton testifies for him at the trial and because of this Heva wins. He wins the judgment and the newspaper has to pay him a whole lot of money and apologize.

All right, that’s version one of the story. Now, in this next version I’m gonna tell it also from basically the point of view of the present, but this one is going to have a feeling of it being even more in the present, happening like right now. This gives the feeling more like we’re actually right there at the time, like I have a microphone and a camera and I’m watching it and I’m telling you as it happens. So you’ll notice it will be just a slightly different feeling. I’ll be using the present tense some, but I’ll be changing things a little bit too. Just notice how it changes.

So Heva and Chim-chim are super famous. They’re becoming really famous and they go to a party and we’re gonna go with them. So there we are. We’re on the boat, on the yacht with Heva and Chim-chim and Richard Branson. Richard Branson is talking to everyone and welcoming them onto this yacht and Paris Hilton is also there and she walks up to Heva and they start talking.

They’re there and they’re talking to each other very seriously for a long time. They’re looking in each other’s eyes and having a very, very serious conversation and while they’re doing this, while they are talking to each other and having this serious conversation, a journalist is watching them too and he is taking pictures of them.

So this journalist is watching them and he’s taking pictures of them click-click, click-click, click-click, click-click, click-click and the next day the journalist publishes these photos with the headline ‘Heva’s New Squeeze.’ Now, of course, Heva gets very upset because this is not true. Heva’s girlfriend becomes irate, super angry because this is not true and so Heva decides to sue the newspaper. He takes them to court and he sues them libel.

And so you can imagine, we go in there and we’re watching and we’re there on the day of the testimony of Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton testifies for Heva. She’s testifying right now for Heva. We’re watching and she’s sitting there in the chair and she’s telling her story and she’s saying “Heva and I never dated. He was never my boyfriend and he never will be.” The crowd is watching very intent and everybody is wondering what’s going to happen and finally the judge makes his decision and he says that Heva wins the case.

And that’s version number two of the story. Now you can see in some points where I am using ‘ing’. I’m saying she is testifying. That gives the feeling of it’s very immediate, like we’re actually sitting there right as it’s happening. When I say she testifies for him it has a more general feeling. It’s kind of in the present, but it’s just a different feeling. It doesn’t feel like it’s in this exact moment as much.

All right, let’s go again. Let’s do the future because that’s also a very common point of view. So we can imagine in the future.

Chim-chim and Heva become famous in the future. They become famous and Richard Branson is going to send them an invitation to a party and they’re gonna accept the invitation. They’re going to accept the invitation and they’ll go to the party on his yacht and Paris Hilton will also be at the party. Heva and Paris Hilton they’re gonna have like a really serious conversation. (Of course, ‘gonna’ means going to. I have to remind you every month. Gonna is our casual way of saying going to.)

So they’re gonna have a serious conversation and while they’re having this conversation a journalist will take their picture and the next day he’s gonna publish a headline that says ‘Heva’s New Squeeze’ with a picture of Heva talking to Paris Hilton.

Now, Heva’s girlfriend will be irate. She’s going to be furious, very angry and Heva will be very upset too. In fact, he’ll be so upset that he’ll sue the newspaper for libel.

At the trial, Paris Hilton will testify. She’ll testify for Heva and say that she was never his girlfriend and they’re not dating now and they never will and because of this Heva is going to win the case and the judge will award the judgment to him and the newspaper will have to pay him millions of dollars and they have to apologize too.

And that’s it for our third version, the future version, and that’s the end of our point-ofview stories. As always, just listen to these each day. Don’t think about the grammar.

Don’t analyze it, just notice how things change. Notice the change and notice the change in the meaning. That’s it.

All right, I will see you again next time, bye-bye.
