Warm Heart – Point Of View Lesson

Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson. Okay, so in this lesson I’m going to tell you the same story from three different points of view. First, I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present. So let’s start.

There is a woman and her name is Beth and Beth is 31 years old and Beth lives in New York. And unfortunately, Beth is always cold. Yes, it’s true. Even when it’s very hot, Beth is cold. Well, Beth has insomnia. She has insomnia because she’s cold when she goes to sleep. So Beth purchases 21 brown blankets and she puts the blankets on her bed. And after that she cranks up the heat in her house. But unfortunately, when she goes to sleep she is still cold. Beth is still cold when she goes to sleep.

Well, Beth is fed up with being cold. She wants to go to a place where it is hot so she purchases a plane ticket to Ghana and she flies to Ghana. And Beth’s friend Jane flies to Ghana with Beth.

And when they arrive in Ghana it is very hot. It is 110 degrees Fahrenheit which is about 44 degrees Celsius. So it’s very hot there. And after they arrive in Ghana, Jane is sweating. She’s sweating because it’s very hot there. But Beth isn’t sweating, no. In fact, Beth has to wear a jacket because she’s cold. Even though it is hot in Ghana, Beth is still cold.

Well, Beth doesn’t want to stay in Ghana because she’s cold. And Jane doesn’t want to stay in Ghana because it is very hot in Ghana. So they fly back to New York and on the flight to New York, Beth meets a man and his name is Mark. And Mark has the hots for Beth so Mark asks Beth to go on a date with him and Beth says yes. Beth agrees to go on a date with Mark.

Well, one day after Beth arrives in New York, she goes on a date with Mark and before the end of that date, Beth is head over heels in love with Mark. It is the first time that Beth has ever been in love. And after Beth gets home that night, she turns off the heat in her house and she takes the blankets off of her bed. And when she goes to sleep that night, she is not cold. She’s actually warm. When Beth goes to sleep, she isn’t cold, she’s actually warm.

Well, after Beth’s first date with Mark, she is never cold again because after that date, Beth remains in love with Mark for the rest of her life so she is never cold because her heart always keeps her warm.

Okay, well that’s the end of our first point of view story in this lesson. So in that story I told you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present. Next I want to tell you the story as if it will happen sometime in the future. So let’s start the story.

Sometime in the future, let’s say 42 years from now in the future, there will be a woman and her name will be Beth. And Beth is going to be 31 years old and she’s going to live in New York. And Beth is always going to be cold. Yes, unfortunately, Beth is always going to be cold. Well, Beth is going to have insomnia because she’s going to be cold when she goes to sleep. So Beth is going to purchase 21 brown blankets and she’s going to put the blankets on her bad. And after that, she’s going to crank up the heat in her house. But unfortunately, when Beth goes to sleep she’s still going to be cold.

Well, Beth is going to be fed up with being cold. She will want to go to a place where it is hot so she’s going to buy a plane ticket to Ghana and she’s going to fly to Ghana. And her friend Jane is going to fly to Ghana with her. And when they arrive in Ghana, it’s going to be very hot. It’s going to be 110 degree Fahrenheit there. And after they arrive in Ghana, Jane is going to be sweating because it’s going to be very hot in Ghana. But Beth isn’t going to be sweating, no. In fact, Beth is going to have to wear a jacket because she’s going to be cold. Even though it’s going to be very hot in Ghana, Beth will still be cold.

Well, Beth isn’t going to want to stay in Ghana because she’s going to be cold. And Jane isn’t going to want to stay in Ghana either because it’s going to be very hot in Ghana. So they’re going to fly back to New York and on the flight to New York, Beth is going to meet a man and his name is going to be Mark. And Mark is going to have the hots for Beth, yes, he is. So he is going to ask Beth to go on a date with him and Beth’s going to say yes. Beth is going to agree to go on a date with Mark.

Well, one day after Beth arrives in New York, she’s going to go on a date with Mark. And before the end of that date, Beth will be head over heels in love with Mark and it will be the first time she has ever been in love. And after she gets home that night, she’s going to turn the heat off in her house and she’s going to take the blankets off of her bed. And when she goes to sleep that night, she’s going to be warm. She isn’t going to be cold.

Well, after her first date with Mark, Beth is never going to be cold again because, you see, after that date, Beth is going to remain in love with Mark for the rest of her life. So she’s never going to be cold because her heart is always going to keep her warm.

Okay, so that’s the end of our second point of view story. Now in that story I told you the story as if it will happen sometime in the future, I think I said 42 years in the future. So next I want to tell you the story from Beth’s point of view. So when I tell you this story you’re going to have to pretend I’m a woman named Beth, okay? And I’m going to tell you the story as if it’s already happened in the past. So let’s start the story.

Hello, I am a woman and my name is Beth and I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time I was 31 years old and I lived in New York.

And unfortunately, I was always cold. Even when it was very hot, I was cold. Well, I had insomnia because I was cold when I went to sleep. So I purchased 21 brown blankets and I put the blankets on my bed and then I cranked up the heat in my house. But unfortunately, I was still cold when I went to sleep.

Well, I was fed up with being cold. I wanted to go to a place where it was hot so I purchased a plane ticket to fly to Ghana and then I did. I actually flew to Ghana and my friend Jane flew to Ghana with me. And when we arrived in Ghana, it was very hot. It was 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

And after we arrived in Ghana, Jane was sweating. She was sweating because it was very hot in Ghana. But I wasn’t sweating, no. In fact, I had to wear a jacket because I was cold. Even though it was very hot in Ghana, I was still cold.

Well, I didn’t want to stay in Ghana because I was cold and Jane didn’t want to stay in Ghana because it was very hot in Ghana. So we flew back to New York and on the flight to New York, I met a man and his name was Mark. And Mark had the hots for me so he asked me to go on a date with him, and I said yes. I accepted his offer to go on a date with him.

Well, one day after I arrived in New York, I went on a date with Mark and before the end of that date, I was head over heels in love with Mark. It was the first time I had ever been in love. And after I got home that night, I turned the heat off in my house and I took the blankets off of my bed.

And when I went to sleep that night, I wasn’t cold at all. I was actually warm.

Well, after that first date with Mark, I was never cold again because after my first date with Mark, I remained in love with him for the rest of my life. So I was never cold because my heart always kept me warm.

Okay, well that’s the end of our third and final point of view story in this lesson. Now in that story I told you the story from Beth’s point of view and I told you the story as if it had already happened. So I want you to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days. And as you listen to each one of these stories, I want you to try and understand what’s happening in the story, but I also want you to remember the point of view that the story’s being told from.

Alright, well that’s all for this point of view lesson. I’ll see you next time.
