##Sneaking Out – Point Of View Lesson

Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson. Okay, in this lesson, I’m going to tell you the same story three times but each time I tell you the story, I’m going to change the point of view for that story, okay? So first I want to tell you the story as if it is happening right now in the present. So let’s start there.

There is a cat and her name is Carol. And there is a second cat and his name is Jerry. And Jerry and Carol are married and Carol has a problem. Carol wants a new car but Jerry refuses to buy a new car.

Well, one night Jerry wants to go to a party with his friends and Carol doesn’t like parties because she’s uptight. And Carol tells Jerry that he’s not allowed to go to the party because whenever he goes to a party, he gets trashed.

Well, Jerry wants to go to the party so when Carol is sleeping, Jerry sneaks out. Yes, he sneaks out and he goes to the party. You see, Jerry pulls the wool over Carol’s eyes.

Well, Jerry drives to the party and when he goes into the party, he leaves his keys in the car and he always leaves his keys in his car. You see, Jerry is laid back so he doesn’t worry about his car being stolen.

Well, at 2:00 in the morning, Carol wakes up and Jerry is not in the bed with her so she knows that Jerry is at the party. And cats can ride bicycles very fast so Carol rides her bicycle to the party and she sees their car and she sees that the keys are in it. So she puts her bicycle in the car and she drives away. She drives to her sister’s house and she leaves the car there and she rides her bicycle home and then she goes back to sleep.

Well, shortly after that, Jerry leaves the party and he goes to where he had parked the car but the car is not there. Well, Jerry doesn’t know what to do so he walks home and he is very quiet when he gets into bed because he does not want to wake up Carol.

Well, Jerry does not want Carol to know that the car is missing so the next day he wakes up very early in the morning and he goes to a car dealership and he buys Carol a new car. Well, Carol is very excited to have a new car and the first place that she drives is to her sister’s house and shetells her sister to immediately sell the old car and she never tells Jerry about it. You see, in the end, it is Carol who pulls the wool over Jerry’s eyes.

Okay, that’s the end of our first story in this lesson. Now in that story, I told you the story as if it happening right now in the present. Next, I want to tell you the story as if it will happen in the future, so let’s start.

46-1/2 years from now there will be a cat and her name will be Carol. And there will be a second cat and his name will be Jerry. And Carol and Jerry are going to be married and Carol is going to have a problem. Carol is going to want a new car but Jerry is going to refuse to buy a new car.

Well, one night Jerry is going to want to go to a party with his friends. And Carol isn’t going to like parties because she is going to be uptight. Well, Carol is going to tell Jerry that he’s not allowed to go to the party because whenever Jerry goes to a party, he is going to get trashed.

Well, Jerry is going to want to go to the party, so he’s going to wait for Carol to sleep, to be sleeping, and then when Carol is sleeping, he’s going to sneak out of the house and he’s going to go to the party. You see, Jerry is going to pull the wool over Carol’s eyes because Carol is going to think that Jerry is still sleeping.

Well, Jerry is going to drive to the party and when he goes into the party, he’s going to leave his keys in his car. You see, Jerry is always going to leave his keys in to his car. He’s going to be laid back, so he’s never going to worry about his car being stolen.

Well, at 2:00 in the morning, Carol is going to wake up and Jerry isn’t going to be in the bed so Carol is going to know that Jerry is at the party. And Carol’s going to ride her bicycle to the party and she’s going to see their car and their keys are going to be in the car. So Carol is going to drive away in the car. First, she’s going to put her bicycle in the car and then she’s going to drive away. And she’s going to drive to her sister’s house and she’s going to leave the car there and she’s going to ride her bicycle home and she’s going to get back in bed as if nothing has happened.

Well, not long after that, Jerry is going to leave the party and he’s going to go where he had parked the car. But the car isn’t going to be there and Jerry isn’t going to know where the car is so he’s going to walk home. And after he arrives at home, he’s going to very quietly get in bed.You see, he is not going to want to wake up Carol.

Well, Jerry is not going to want Carol to know that the car is missing so the next day he’s going to get up very early and he’s going to go to a car dealership and he’s going to purchase a new car for Carol. And Carol is going to be very happy to have a new car and the first place she’s going to drive is to her sister’s house and she’s going to tell her sister to immediately sell the car and she is not going to tell Jerry about it. You see, in the end, Carol is the one who’s really going to pull the wool over Jerry’s eyes.

Okay, so that’s the end of our second story in this lesson. Now in that story, I told you the story as if it will happen sometime in the future. So there is one more story in this lesson and for this story, I want you to…I’m going to tell you the story from Carol’s point of view. Okay, so you’re going to have to pretend I’m a cat named Carol. Okay, so let’s start.

Hello, I’m a cat and my name is Carol. And I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time I was married to another cat and his name was Jerry. And I had a problem, I wanted a new car but Jerry refused to buy a new car.

Well, one night Jerry wanted to go to a party with his friends. And I didn’t like parties because I was uptight. Well, I told Jerry that he wasn’t allowed to go to the party because whenever he went to a party, he got trashed.

Well, Jerry really wanted to go to the party so after I was sleeping, he snuck out of the house and he went to the party and I thought that he was still in bed sleeping the entire time. So he pulled the wool over my eyes.

Well, Jerry drove to the party and when he went into the party, he left his keys in the car. You see, Jerry always left his keys in his car. He was laid back so he never worried about his car being stolen.

Well, at 2:00 in the morning I woke up and Jerry wasn’t in the bed with me so I knew that he was at the party. And so I immediately rode my bicycle to the party. I rode very fast. And I saw our car and the keys were in it so I put my bicycle in the car and then I drove away. I drove to my sister’s house and I left the car there and I rode my bicycle home and I got back into bed, acting as if nothing had happened.Well, shortly after that, Jerry left the party and he went to where he had parked the car. But, of course, it wasn’t there anymore and Jerry didn’t know what had happened to the car so he walked home. And when he arrived at home, he got into bed very quietly because he didn’t want to wake me up.

Well, Jerry didn’t want me to know that the car was missing so the next day, he woke up very early in the morning and he went to a car dealership and he bought me a new car. Well, I was very happy to have a new car and the first place I went was to my sister’s house and I told my sister to sell the old car immediately and I never told Jerry about it. You see, in the end, I was the one who really pulled the wool over Jerry’s eyes.

Okay, so that’s the end of our third and final story in this point of view lesson. Now in that story, I told you the story from Carol the cat’s point of view. And the story was told as if it had already happened in the past. So I want you to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days and I just want you to try and understand what’s happening each time you listen to the story and I want you to remember the point of view that the story is being told in each time you listen to another story in this lesson.

Alright, that’s all for this point of view lesson. I’ll see you next time.
