Hello and welcome, welcome to the VIP Program. Don’t miss speaking English fluently. Don’t miss the chance to speak English powerfully, to speak persuasively, but more than that don’t miss the chance to live the life that you dream, the life that you want, the lifestyle you want in terms of money and work, of course; the kind of relationships and family you want. The feelings you want to feel usually, a happy life. Respect, having the respect of those you work with, of those you’re friends with, of those around you.

You can train to get these things there’s still time, it doesn’t matter your age. We have VIP members of all different ages, very young to old. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if you’re in your teens or if you’re in your 80s and 90s, doesn’t matter. As long as you’re alive you still have time, don’t’ miss the chance to get these things that you want.

In the VIP program you will train, you will train to speak English fluently and powerfully and persuasively. Every day you’re going to listen to all of the audios in the lesson unit. You’re going to do this daily. This’ll be about an hour, possibly hour and a half a day. I recommend two hours a day if you have the time. Daily, daily training. Listening, listening, listening, repetition is the mother of skill so repetition is your friend, repeat the same lesson every day for 10 days. This on you’re going to repeat for 10 days to 14 days or more if you want to.

You’re going to get more than English. You’ll notice you’re going to get more than just English training. You will learn to speak English powerfully when you stay in the VIP program. You need about 6-12 months at least, so commit, decide, focus. Put in the time every single day. You’re also going to see that you’ll learn a lot more than just English. You’re going to learn a lot more that will help you live the life of your dreams, the life that you want, whatever that is.

Now, in our first lesson here we’re going to listen to Mr. Tony Robbins, a great coach and motivational speaker and businessman, and “m going to use what’s called the movie technique, so I’m going to play little parts of this video. First I’m going to play all of it. It’s an interview. Then I’m going to go back and then I’ll pause after each sentence and explain what he’s saying. And then in the commentary I’ll talk even more about the ideas.

So let’s go now to this interview with Mr. Tony Robbins’. He’s giving an interview about his life.

Every day I say look, you gotta have 10 minutes for yourself. If you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself you don’t have a life and I’m not going to hope I feel good. I just got back from 6 countries in 12 days, I was in India two days ago. I woke up here feeling like someone ran me over with a truck. The way I did is I do this process, it’s 10 minutes I put some music on. I do this massive change in my breathing so it radically changes the way I feel and then I do this three-step process.

First I do three minutes of gratitude where I think of three things I’m really grateful for and I don’t think of it like that I feel it, and the reason is, when you’re grateful you can’t be worried.

You can’t be fearful. When you’re grateful you can’t be angry and anger and fear are what screw people up most in their relationships, their life and their business. So I wire myself. I was saying to you that most people want to be happy, but their habit is to be worried or pissed off or frustrated or stressed and so they’ve got a highway to stress and they’ve got a dirt road to happiness.

So I wire myself, I have a highway to gratitude which changes all your emotions, and then I do a three minute process of kind of a prayer for my family and friends and then I do a three minute process of the top three things I want to accomplish, I see it as done and I feel it, and I’m done in 10 minutes. Sometimes I go 20, but my deal is 10 so there’s no excuse not to do it.

Listen, we’ve all had times when you’ve snapped at somebody and you felt bad because it wasn’t them it was the state that you’re in. Well there’s no excuse for that. If you prime yourself. If you set yourself up… they’ve done studies where they go to people and they have a man walk up to you and say, could you hold this for me and he hands you a cup of coffee.

It’s an actor and then he takes something out of his pocket, then he takes it back and says thank you.

A hundred people they do it with ice coffee. A hundred people they do it with hot coffee.

Forty-five minutes later another actor comes by and says, listen, we’re doing this little test.

For $5 would you read these three paragraphs and answer three questions? Most people say yes. It’s a little story, the questions are about the character. What’s the character like? Eighty percent of the people that got ice coffee say the person is cold and mean. Eighty-one percent of the people that got hot coffee say the person is warm and gentle or nice. That’s how much we can be primed by our environment.

We think we’re just feeling what we’re feeling, but our environment, if we don’t take control of our environment it takes control of us.

Pretty wild Tony, this is easy for you to say, you look like an investment banker. You probably have a Masters from Harvard. I bet you have three degrees from Harvard.

No, I have a high school education.

So what happened, you never went to college?

Well, I was going to USC I wanted to be a sports… I was taking journalism, I was going to get a scholarship and then I had some major challenges in my family I had to take care of and then my mom got very upset. I have four different fathers, so I kind of had to take over. So I went and started my first business at 17.

What was that?

It was working for a man named Jim Rohn and then I started off and became a seminar broker. I actually filled other people’s seminar events, and then I got better than the people I was promoting and after a while I decided heck I should do my own and then I began to just expand and do work. When I started turning around athletes, Olympic athletes and I got to Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and then I got to President Clinton and it grew, grew, grew.

In fact, what was Mother Teresa doing wrong before she met you?

She was in San Diego, and I don’t know if you remember years ago she got very ill and they rushed her to the hospital, and I guess like three days into it she left in the middle of the night. Can you imagine you’re the hospital and you lose Mother Teresa? She wrote a note that said, thank you for your help but I have to help people that are in need, I can’t sit here and she went across the border to Mexico. She said if you really want to help don’t send me a hospital send me a mobile medical unit.

So, in those days I was friends with a very famous actor and he and I were both fans of hers.

I said why don’t we just go buy this, you and I, don’t do a press conference, just drive it across the border and let’s give it to her. We got a chance to visit with her. Anyway, bottom line we did and when I was with her I said to her, I said, it’s such a pleasure to meet you. I always want to learn about people so I’d say, what juices you? What excites you? What makes you more excited than anything else? I’m thinking, juice you, a nun, maybe not the best term. She looked at me and said, and I’ll never forget, she said Tony, what excites me most is to see a person die with a smile on their face. I was like wow, not number one on my list but I’m impressed. She was an amazing woman.

So Tony, one of the critics actually that I once met said yeah, Tony’s techniques they were great for about a year and a half and then they wore off. What do you say to folks who say that?

It’s real simple, if you don’t workout you don’t get a muscle so I always tell people, there’s a daily practice like priming. If you don’t do that, if you get up and you have no discipline whatsoever you get no value of anything. Diets don’t work when you don’t do them. Exercise doesn’t work when you don’t do it. Most of the people have experiences that they want to shift and once you shift those things your whole life changes, but life is constant growth. My life isn’t here because I went to one seminar one time and now my life if fit for life.

I work out. I train my mind. I train my body. It becomes a lifestyle it’s not that you’re depending on somebody else. I’m not here to become somebody’s guru.

All right let’s stop there. Now, he can speak quite quickly as you may have noticed, so if you did not understand some of that, if you did not understand a lot of it, don’t worry. Nothing to get stressed about. Nothing to get worried about. That’s why I’m here, so let’s go back to the beginning and let’s go through this more slowly.

So now we’re gonna go just sentence by sentence and I will play a sentence and then I’ll repeat it and then I’ll explain it.

Every day I say look, you’ve got to have 10 minutes for yourself.

Every day I say, you’ve got to – means you must. You’ve got to have 10 minutes for yourself and then he says, if you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself you don’t have a life. Ten minutes for yourself right, it just means time for yourself alone, to take care of yourself right, without having to worry about anyone else, not kids, no one else. Ten minutes just to take care of yourself.

If you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself you don’t have a life and I’m not going to hope I feel good. I just got back from 6 countries in 12 days.

He says I’m not going to hope I feel good, I just got back from 6 countries in 12 days. So he’s been traveling a lot internationally. So he’s saying I’m not going to hope that I feel good. In other words, he’s going to make sure, he’s going to guarantee that he feels good by doing something.

He’s going to choose to feel good and he’s going to tell us how.

I was in India two days ago. I woke up here feeling like someone ran me over with a truck.

He says I was in India two days ago, now he’s in New York. He said I woke up feeling like someone ran over me with a truck. It’s an image, a metaphor, feeling like he got hit by a truck because he feels so, so, so tired when he woke up.

So you got yourself psyched up.

The way I did is I do this process…

She said, but you got yourself psyched up. To get yourself psyched up means to get yourself excited. He got himself excited and he says yes, how I do this is I have a process. A process is like a system. He has a system to make himself feel good.

It’s 10 minutes I put some music on. I do this massive change in my breathing… So the first part he says it’s 10 minutes long. Every day he does this in the morning. The first part he puts some music on, some energetic, happy fun music and then he changes his breathing. He does deep breathing. So very kind of deep breathing. Some people call this yoga breathing because in yoga they have these breathing exercises, so he does this deep breathing with some energetic music. That’s the first part.

So it radically changes the way I feel

It radically changes the way I feel. Radically means in a big, big way. In a huge way. It totally changes the way he feels, not just a little bit.

And then I do this three-step process.

Then I do a three step process. After he gets the music going he has three more steps.

First I do three minutes of gratitude where I think of three things I’m really grateful for.

First I do three minutes of gratitude where I think of three things I’m really, really grateful for.

That’s the first thing he does in the morning after he gets himself with the breathing and the music. He feels energized, then he focuses on gratitude. So about three minutes he thinks just what am I grateful for in my life? What do I appreciate in my life? What’s good in my life? Or, who do I appreciate?

And I don’t think of it like that I feel it…

So he’s saying, I associate it, means I connect with it. I don’t feel it over there. He means he doesn’t imagine it like it’s far away, he brings the feeling close, the feeling of gratitude, of appreciation. He brings it inside him, so he really feels it strongly. He makes himself feel the gratitude not just, like this far away feeling, but a very close, powerful feeling, emotion.

And the reason is, when you’re grateful you can’t be worried.

And the reason is when you’re grateful you cannot be worried. So he’s saying, gratitude is the opposite of fear. When you’re in the moment right now, when you’re feeling very grateful and appreciative you’re not feeling afraid.

You can’t be fearful. When you’re grateful you can’t be angry.

When you’re grateful you can’t be angry.

And anger and fear are what screw people up most

And anger and fear are what screw people up most. Anger and fear are what screw people up most. Screw people up means cause problems for people. If you screw up it means you make a mistake. So if something screws people up it makes mistakes in their life, it makes their life have problems.

In their relationships, their life and their business.

In their relationships, in their life and their business… all these areas. When people get angry or fearful that’s when they do stupid things.

So I wire myself. I was saying to you that

I wire myself. This is kind of slang a little bit. I wire myself, means I program myself, I program myself, like a computer. It’s not accidental. He’s programming his brain, his emotions every morning.

Most people want to be happy, but their habit is to be worried or pissed off or frustrated So he’s saying most people want to be happy. You want to be happy, but their habit is to be pissed off which means angry. Pissed off is kind of a casual way to say angry. So they have a habit of being angry or fearful or whatever, worried or stressed.

So they’ve got a highway to stress and they’ve got a dirt road to happiness.

They’ve got a highway to stress but a dirt road to happiness. So this is just another image like a… we call a metaphor right, it’s just comparing. Highway means it’s very fast, the fast path, a fast road to feeling stress or unhappy. And a dirt road, you can imagine a dirt road, if a cars on a dirt road it’s very slow, so it’s a slow path. It’s difficult for them to feel happy, but very easy to feel stressed or angry or worried.

So I wire myself, I’ve got a highway to gratitude

He says I wire myself again. I program myself to have a highway to gratitude so that I very easily feel gratitude because it’s a habit, I do it every day so I’m used to feeling grateful.

Which changes all your emotions, and then I do a three minute process of kind of a prayer for my family and friends

And then his second part is I do a three minute process, another three minute system of doing a prayer for my family and friends. So he’s praying to God for his family and for his friends to be happy which again is a kind of gratitude right?

And then I do a three minute process of the top three things I want to accomplish.

Then the final part, the final three minutes I do a three minute process of focusing on the three things I want to accomplish this day. So his three most important goals for the day. So he thinks okay what, what do I really want to accomplish today; the three most important things?

I see it as done…

And I see it as done. So he’s like, I imagine that I have already finished those three important things.

And I feel it, and I’m done in 10 minutes.

And I feel it, and I’m done in 10 minutes.

Sometimes I go 20, but my deal is 10 so there’s no excuse not to do it.

So sometimes I go 20, sometimes I go, meaning I do this for 20 minutes because sometimes it feels so good he does it longer. He says but my deal, my deal with myself, my promise to myself is 10 minutes, 10 minutes at least.

You know what, I think it’s a great way to kind of set the tone for the day.

It does.

It’s a great way to set the tone for the day. Set the tone means create the emotion, right. Create the attitude. Create the mindset for the day. That’s what set the tone means, create a mindset.

Create an attitude. So, by doing this in the morning and right at the beginning he’s creating his mindset, his attitude for the whole day. Sets the tone.

Listen, we’ve all had times when you’ve snapped at somebody and you felt bad because it wasn’t them it was the state that you’re in.

We’ve all had times where you snapped at someone, but it wasn’t them it was the state that you were in. To snap at someone means to say something negative or angry at someone suddenly.

You say, stop doing that! If maybe a child’s making some noise and instead of being quiet; please stop that, you just snap. It means sudden anger comes out, to snap. You snap at someone. You say something angry suddenly at someone. He says sometimes we do that and it’s just because we’re in a bad state. A state means emotional feeling, again, a mindset, an attitude.

Well there’s no excuse for that. If you prime yourself. If you set yourself up… He’s like there’s no excuse for that, if you prime yourself, if you set yourself up, meaning the same thing, it means prepare yourself. If you prime yourself it means if you prepare yourself, if you create this mindset at the beginning then you won’t snap like that.

They’ve done studies where they go to people and they have a man walk up to you and say, could you hold this for me and he hands you a cup of coffee.

So there’ve been studies where they come up and ask somebody, an actor says will you hold this cup of coffee and half the people get ice coffee and half the people get hot coffee. I’ll explain all of this because this isn’t so important. So they do that then later another actor comes up[ and they ask them, please read this story. So they read a story about some character doing something. Then they ask questions about the characters in the story.

They say, were these characters warm and friendly or were they cold and unfriendly? What’s interesting about the study is that the people who got the ice coffee 45 minutes earlier, right, unconnected. They described the character usually as cold and unfriendly. And the people who got the hot coffee, who held the hot coffee 45 minutes earlier, they described the character as warm and friendly. So he’s saying, this shows how something so small just holding a cold drink or a hot drink, how this can create a kind of mindset. It can prime you. It can prepare your emotions. It can create your emotions and 45 minutes later for something completely different you still have a different attitude, depending on if you held the cold cup or the hot cup.

So he’s just showing with this story the power of this, of ‘in the beginning of the day’ creating positive strong emotions, because then that will affect your whole day. You’ll see everything the rest of the day in a more positive way. You’ll be more confident for the whole day. You’ll be more disciplined for the whole day. That’s the point of this story. So I’m going to play the rest of the story now.

So important, he says if we don’t take control of our environment, our environment takes control of us. This is the big point. So he’s saying if we don’t choose to create positive emotions, strong emotions, gratitude, prayer, power, confidence, then the environment will affect us, people around us, whatever’s happening. So we need to choose and do it ourselves.

Pretty wild Tony,

Means pretty amazing, pretty wild means pretty amazing.

This is easy for you to say, you look like an investment banker.

Look at you you’re like an investment banker. You probably have a degree from Harvard. He’s saying it’s easy for you. He’s joking this interviewer because he knows Tony does not have a college degree.

You probably have a Masters from Harvard. I bet you have three degrees from Harvard.

No, I have a high school education.

He says no, none of the above I have a high school education.

So what happened, you never went to college?

What happened you never went to college?

Well, I was going to USC I wanted to be a sports… I was taking journalism, I was going to USC I wanted to be, and he stops. He says I was studying sports journalism.

USC is University of Southern California.

I was going to get a scholarship and then I had some major challenges in my family… I was getting a scholarship means he was getting money, free money, but then he had major challenges in his family. Here challenges means problems.

I had to take care of…

That I had to take care of and then my mom…

… and then my mom got very upset. I have four different fathers,

My mom got very upset. I had four different fathers. His mom was always breaking up with all these guys and Tony would get a new dad as he was growing up. Very tough childhood.

So I kind of had to take over. So I went and started my first business at 17.

He said I had to take over. It means I had to take control. I had to take control of my life and at age 17 I started my first business.

What was that?

It was working for a man named Jim Rohn

It was working for a man named Jim Rohn and then I became a broker. A broker is like a salesman.

And then I started off and became a seminar broker. I actually filled other people’s seminar events.

A seminar broker, so he was… I filled other people’s seminar events. So he would work with another speaker and then he would sell tickets to the speaker’s events and then he says I became really good at that. So good I started to do my own seminars.

And then I got better than the people I was promoting

I got better than the people I was promoting.

And after a while I decided heck I should do my own

I decided heck, I should do my own. Heck is a very polite way to say hell which just shows emotion.

And then I began to just expand and do work.

Then I began to expand, to grow and do work.

When I started turning around athletes, Olympic athletes and I got to Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and then I got to President Clinton and it grew, grew, grew.

I started turning around athletes, turning around here means helping them change their lives, changing for the positive right. It means their life was bad, something bad is happening. And then I would turn them around, means I would help them change and get a good result.

In fact, what was Mother Teresa doing wrong before she met you?

Then this guy jokes, what was Mother Teresa doing wrong before she met you? This guy’s joking again, because he didn’t help Mother Teresa doing anything, he just met her. Then he tells a story how Mother Teresa was sick, seriously sick. She was in the hospital in San Diego where Tony used to live and then one day she just left the hospital. She just left she didn’t want to stay there anymore. She left a note saying, I can’t stay here I need to help people and she went down to Mexico. She said if you want to help me send a mobile medical unit. Mobile means can move. Medical unit… it basically means an ambulance, maybe a bit nicer than that.

It’s like a truck or a car that has medical equipment.

And then Tony said, I had an actor friend who was very famous and we liked Mother Teresa, so we bought this mobile medical unit, basically a medical car or truck and we drove it down. WE took it down to Mexico where Mother Teresa was. So we got to meet her and we gave this to her so she could get healthcare while she was down there helping people.

Let’s just don’t do a press conference, no publicity. Let’s just drive it across the border and give it to her and so they did.

What juices you? What excites you?

When he met Mother Teresa he said, what excites you? What juices you? To juice you, to get juiced means to get excited, to get really excited. I’m so juiced about this. He jokes. This is kind of slang so maybe it wasn’t a god word to use with Mother Teresa.

She looked at me and said, and I’ll never forget, she said Tony, what excites me most is to see a person die with a smile on their face.

So what excites me most is to see a person die with a smile on my face. That was Mother Teresa’s answer. He says, that’s not my first answer right, because like seeing someone die.

Most people it doesn’t make them feel happy, because the idea is that they felt at peace as they were dying. At peace with God, at peace with themselves.

I was like wow, not number one on my list but I’m impressed. She was an amazing woman.

So Tony, one of the critics actually that I once met said yeah, Tony’s techniques they were great for about a year and a half and then they wore off.

Another critic, another kind of joke, Tony’s techniques they work for a year and a half but then they wore off. To wear off means to stop working, they stopped working. So basically, someone is criticizing Tony saying okay, his motivation, his techniques they are effective but only for like a year, or a year and a half and after that they stop working.

What do you say to folks who say that?

It’s real simple, if you don’t workout you don’t get a muscle… So he’s saying it’s just like your mental performance, your emotional performance, it’s just like your physical performance. If you don’t workout, if you don’t exercise you don’t get results. You cannot workout just one time and expect to get great results, you have to do it right. You have to train every day, every day, every day. He’s saying it’s the same with your mind, it’s the same with your emotions.

I always tell people, there’s a daily practice like priming.

There’s a daily practice like priming, like his morning routine, his morning system. You’ve gotta do it daily just like VIP right, you’ve gotta listen to these audios, to these lessons daily to do what I say daily. It’s a daily exercise that’s how you get the great results.

If you don’t do that, if you get up and you have no discipline whatsoever If you get up, if you have no discipline whatsoever, means at all. If you have no discipline at all every day, you will not get good results.

You get no value of anything.

You will get no value out of anything.

Diets don’t work when you don’t do them.

Diets don’t work when you don’t do them. Exercise doesn’t work when you don’t do it.

Most people have experiences that they want to shift and once you shift those things your whole life changes

He says, but the good side is that most people have some experiences that they want to shift, they want to change and once you change those big important things then their or your whole life changes, so there’s certain things, if you change them like just doing this little thing in the morning. Like listening to English an hour or two every day, just that little change can make a huge change in your life, a huge improvement.

But life is constant growth.

Life is constant growth. It means if you’re alive you’re constantly learning, constantly growing, constantly improving.

We are going to end the video there. I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Listen to the mini story. You’re going to get more repetition and deeper learning of a lot of these phrases and words and others.

The mini story lesson is very, very, very powerful, as is the point of view lesson. And then in the commentary I will talk more about some of these ideas that Tony is teaching us.
