Friends - POV

Welcome to the point of view stories. Let’s get started. Same story different time. First, the past. The story already happened.

There was a possum. Her name was Paula and she was surly, and she had been this way ever since getting a job as a manager. Paula worked at a big accounting firm. Whenever her department had a meeting, Paula got in everyone’s face. She screamed at her staff. She berated them for every mistake and she had been doing this for five years. Of course, because of this her staff had become demoralized.

One day one of her staff members made a major mistake. Their client was very upset and called Paula. When Paula heard about the mistake she was furious. She called the employee into her office and she got in his face. While yelling at the employee, Paula suddenly felt a pain in her chest and she had trouble breathing. She clutched at her chest and gasped, oh no, something is happening. I don’t feel well, call the doctor. Paula was rushed to the hospital. A doctor examined her. He said, ‘well luckily you didn’t have a heart attack, but you have very high blood pressure. You need to relax.’

Paula was relieved. She went back to work. The next day another employee made a mistake.

Paula went through the roof and once again she felt a sharp pain in her chest. She returned to the hospital. The doctor said, ‘Paula, you need to calm down or you really will have a heart attack. If you don’t learn to deal with your anger you will kick the bucket in a few years.’ When she heard the words kick the bucket, Paula was scared. She realized that she must change.

Paula immediately quit her job. She went back to school to become a massage therapist. She took yoga classes. She learned to meditate. Every day Paula practiced yoga and meditation.

She got a new job at the hospital as a massage therapist. Paula also took anger management classes. Her blood pressure dropped. She became a chilled out possum and she lived a long enjoyable life.

OK, version two is in the future. Let’s imagine the same story, but it’s going to happen in the future.

It’s gonna happen in the future. Gonna means going to, it’s a casual way of saying going to. Here we go.

In the future there will be a possum. She’ll be surly. She’ll have this way ever since getting a job as a manager. Paula will work at a big accounting firm and whenever her department has a meeting, Paula will get in everyone’s face. She’ll scream at her staff. And she’ll berate them for every mistake. She’ll have been doing this for five years. And, because of this her staff will have become demoralized.

One day one of her staff members will make a major mistake. Their client will be very upset and will call Paula. When Paula hears about the mistake she’ll become furious. She’ll call the employee into her office and she’ll get in his face. While yelling at the employee, Paula will suddenly feel a pain in her chest and she’s gonna have trouble breathing too. She’s gonna clutch at her chest and she’ll gasp, oh no, something is happening. I don’t feel well, call the doctor. Paula will be rushed to the hospital. And a doctor is gonna examine her. And he’s gonna say, ‘luckily you didn’t have a heart attack, but you have very high blood pressure. You need to relax.’ Paula’s gonna be relieved, so she’ll go back to work. The next day another employee will make a mistake and Paula’s gonna go through the roof again. And once again she’ll feel a sharp pain in her chest. And she’s gonna go back to the hospital. The doctor will say, ‘Paula, you need to calm down or you really will have a heart attack. If you don’t learn to deal with your anger you will kick the bucket in a few years.’ When she hears the words kick the bucket, Paula will be scared. She’ll realize that she must change.

And so, she’s gonna immediately quit her job. She’ll go back to school to become a massage therapist. She’ll take yoga classes. She’ll learn to meditate. Every day Paula will practice yoga and meditation. And she’ll get a new job at the hospital as a massage therapist. She’ll also take anger management classes and finally, her blood pressure will drop. She’ll become a chilled out possum and she’ll live a long enjoyable life.

That’s the end of our point of view stories. Just listen to them every day. Your natural English grammar will get better. Do not think about grammar rules, just listen carefully, notice the changes that’s all.

See you next time. Bye for now.
