Elders - POV

It’s time for the point of view story. Same story, different times. Our first version is in the past, imagine the story happened already.

There was a man, his name is Bill. He was a big strong guy. Despite being a big strong guy, Bill was very gentle. In fact, he was quite timid and meek. Bill had been meek his entire life.

There was another man. His name is terrible Tim. Terrible Tim was normal sized.

Though he was smaller than Bill, he was much meaner. Tim was a bully. He constantly bullied Bill. In fact, Tim had bullied Bill for many years. Bill had suffered meekly during this entire time.

Whenever terrible Tim saw Bill, he always insulted him. He said, ‘hey loser, what’s up?’ Poor Bill always just hanged his head. In addition to verbally abusing Bill, Tim also abused him physically. He hit him in the arm and smacked him in the head. Poor Bill. Well finally, Bill got fed up with being bullied. He decided to get help.

First, he took an assertiveness course. He went to New York City to attend the course and learn how to be assertive. In the course, the teacher taught Bill how to speak directly and forcefully. He learned to look people in the eye and use a loud voice.

After the course Bill returned home and the next time he saw terrible Tim, Bill said, ‘stop now, you can’t bully me anymore.’ At first Tim was surprised and he stopped. But the next time he saw Bill, Tim ignored him and smacked him in the head. So, Bill went back to the drawing board.

He decided to take a boxing class at a local gym. Every day he went to the gym. He put on gloves and hit a heavy bag. The trainer made him work very hard. Bill got stronger and stronger with his punches. Finally, he decided he was ready for Tim. The next time he saw Tim, he again used an assertive voice and said, ‘stop now’ Of course, Tim ignored him and smacked him in the head anyway. But this time Bill fought back. He threw a hard punch and hit Tim in the head, on the skull.

Unfortunately, because he was not wearing gloves, Bill broke his hand. He grabbed his hand and yelled ooh. Tim was initially shocked when Bill fought back. He stumbled backwards.

But then, Tim he saw that Bill had hurt his hand. He laughed and said, ‘you’re such a loser’ and then he smacked Bill in the head again. Poor Bill. Well, Bill had to wait a few months for his hand to heal. Meanwhile, terrible Tim continued to bully him every day.

Finally, once his hand was healed, Bill took a self-defense course called Fast Defense.

In the class he learned to defend himself against bullies and attackers. He learned to avoid using his fist

Feeling confident again, Bill confronted Tim. He said, ‘you will never bully me again.’ Tim just laughed and raised his hand to smack Bill again, but Bill was ready. Bill struck him in the head with his palm, very forcefully. Tim was stunned. He fell to the ground.

Bill said, ‘now apologize.’ Tim hung his head in defeat and said, ‘I’m sorry, I won’t bully you again.’ Bill felt great. He decided to become a self-defense instructor so he could help other victims of bullying.

There will be a man, his name will be Bill. He’ll be a big strong guy, but he’ll also be timid and meek. At that point in the future, he will have been meek his entire life.

There will be another man. His name will be terrible Tim. Terrible Tim will be normal sized, but he’ll be much meaner. In fact, he’ll be a bully. He’ll constantly bully Bill. In addition to verbally abusing Bill, Tim will also abuse him physically. He’ll hit him in the arm and smack him in the head. Poor Bill. Well finally, Bill is gonna get fed up with being bullied. He’s gonna get help.

(Gonna means going to. It’s a casual way to use the future).

First, Bill is going to take an assertiveness course. He’s gonna go to New York City and he’ll attend the course and learn how to be assertive. In the course, the teacher will teach Bill how to speak directly and forcefully. He’ll learn to look people in the eye and use a loud voice.

Well, Bill will first have to wait a few months for his hand to heal. Meanwhile, he’ll get bullied again and again and again by Tim. Finally, once his hand heals, he’ll go to a self-defense course called Fast Defense. He’ll attend the class and he’ll learn to use an open hand not a fist.

Feeling confident, Bill will confront Tim again. He’ll say, ‘you will never bully me again.’ Tim will laugh and he’ll raise his hand to smack Bill, but Bill will be ready this time. He’ll strike Tim in the head with his palm very forcefully. Tim will be stunned. He’ll fall to the ground. That’s the end of our point of view stories. As always, just listen to the versions. The mini story and the point of view stories. Notice the changes in the verbs. In other words, just get a feeling for the grammar. Do not think about grammar rules. Each month your natural spoken grammar will get better and better and better.

See you next time. Bye for now.
