Character Leadership - VIP POV

Hi this is A.J., welcome to point-of-view stories for this month’s lesson. Let’s get started. Our first version is in the present.

There’s a guy. He is very poor. He has no money and he wants to be rich. In fact, he has been poor his whole life and he has always wanted to be rich. For many years he has dreamed of being rich, but he has never achieved success. So he becomes a Thai boxer. He trains and trains by himself everyday, because he can’t afford a trainer. It’s very difficult.

Finally one day he gets his first professional fight. The winner of the fight gets $50. The man enters the fight but he loses. He gets knocked out in the first round. So next he tries to find a coach, a trainer, but he’s too poor and no one will train him. They all say to him, get lost punk. The man is destitute and desperate, so finally he goes to a temple where there is a famous shaman. He meets the shaman and says, ‘I’ll give you half of my earnings if you help me win fights.’

The shaman agrees. He draws a magic tattoo on the man’s right arm and suddenly his right arm becomes very strong. In his next fight the man hits his opponent with his right arm and lays him out. He returns to the shaman and pays half his winnings. Then he says, ‘give me another tattoo.’ He gets another one on his left arm, which also becomes very strong. So he enters another fight and he wins again. He enters more and more fights and wins them all, and after each fight he pays the shaman and gets another tattoo.

He gets tattoos on his legs, hands, feet, his neck, his body and even his face. And because he’s so strong the tattooed man becomes the muai Thai boxing champion of all of Thailand. After winning the championship the tattooed man decides he doesn’t need the shaman anymore. So, he goes to see him again and he says, ‘I have all the tattoos I need now and I’m the champ. You must honor our agreement says the shaman. But the tattooed man laughs and punches him in the stomach. The shaman glares at the tattooed man and says, ‘I curse you. You will always be poor. Every time you gain money you will lose it quickly.’ The tattooed man just laughs.

The next month he goes to a casino near the Cambodian border. He wins his first bet so he bets more and he wins again. Yes he says, ‘I’m going to be super rich.’ Eventually the tattooed man bets all of his money and of course he loses it all. And because he’s gambling the, Thai Boxing Association bars him from fighting again. With no money and no job he decides to become a bandit. He beats up people and takes their money. He starts a small gang of bandits. One day they decide to steal a box of gold from a temple. Because it’s a big job he needs more help. He decides he needs more muscle.

He hires a giant rat named Getty, along with Getty’s crew. They break into the temple and steal the box of gold, but the Thai Army arrives quickly and chases them. During the escape the tattooed man tries to double cross Getty the rat. The tattooed man wants all the gold for himself. Since the tattooed man is very strong, he thinks he can easily beat Getty the rat. But Getty is a very tough and strong rat. They fight and Getty the rat wins. He’s stronger and tougher than the tattooed man.

The tattooed man is knocked out by Getty, he’s unconscious. He awakes just as the Thai Army is arriving. The army catches all of his bandits and friends, but the tattooed man slips away and escapes. He returns to Bangkok, but he’s poor and alone again.

That’s our first version. Our next version is in the future. Imagine that we’re dreaming this or seeing into the future and we know all of this will happen in the future.

Since the tattooed man is so strong, he’ll think he can easily beat Getty the rat. But Getty the rat will be very tough and strong. The two will fight and Getty the rat will win. The tattooed man will be knocked out by Getty. He’ll awake just as the Thai Army is arriving. The army will catch all of his bandits and friends, but the tattooed man will slip away and escape. He’ll return to Bangkok, but he’ll be poor and alone again.

That is the end of our point-of-view stories. Just listen to these. Let the grammar come in naturally, don’t think about the rules, just listen and repeat each day. You’ll gradually get a better feeling for the grammar day by day, week by week, month by month.
