Moon Guitar – Point Of View Lesson

Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson. Okay, so in today’s lesson I’m going to tell you the same story that you heard in the mini-story lesson but this time I’m going to tell you that story from three different points of view. First, I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present. So let’s start.

There is a monkey and his name is Michael and Michael is 16 years old. And Michael hates going to school. Yes, Michael hates going to school so every day he cuts class and he goes to the beach. And when Michael is at the beach he sits in the sand and plays the guitar.

Well, unfortunately, Michael fails all five of his classes. So his mother and father are upset with him. And Michael’s mother and father want Michael to hit the books every day after school for five hours. But Michael refuses to hit the books. Instead of hitting the books, Michael goes to his bedroom and he plays guitar.

So Michael’s father takes Michael’s guitar and he tells Michael that if he wants his guitar back then he has to improve his grades. Well, Michael is angry at his father because his father has taken his guitar from him. So Michael runs away from home and he goes to the moon. Michael goes to the moon because there are a lot of guitars on the moon.

Well, after Michael arrives on the moon he meets another monkey and the monkey’s name is Charlie. And Michael and Charlie hit it off because they both play guitar. But, unfortunately, Michael is not allowed to play guitar on the moon because he did not get straight As. Yes, you see, only monkeys who have straight As are allowed to play the guitar on the moon.

So Michael is not allowed to play the guitar on the moon but Charlie is allowed to play guitar on the moon because Charlie did get straight As. Well, Michael wants to play guitar on the moon with Charlie so he turns over a new leaf. Michael goes home and he starts going to school again and he never cuts class. And every day after school Michael hits the books for seven hours.

And the results are positive because that year at school Michael gets straight As. Well, after Michael gets straight As, his father returns his guitar to him. But Michael doesn’t stay at home. No, Michael goes back to the moon and every day he plays guitar with Charlie there.

Okay, so that’s the end of our first point of view story. Now in that story I told you the story as if it is happening right now, okay, in the present. Next I want to tell you the story as if it will happen in the future. So let’s start the story.

Some time from now in the future, let’s say 11 years from now in the future, there will be a monkey. And his name will be Michael and Michael is going to be 16 years old. And Michael is going to hate going to school so every day he’s going to cut class and go to the beach instead. And at the beach Michael is going to play guitar.

Well, unfortunately, Michael is going to fail all five of his classes so his parents are going to be upset with him. And Michael’s parents are going to want Michael to hit the books every day after school for five hours. But Michael is going to refuse to hit the books. Instead Michael’s going to go into his bedroom and play the guitar.

So Michael’s father is going to take Michael’s guitar and he’s going to tell Michael that if he wants his guitar then he’s going to have to improve his grades. Well, Michael’s going to be angry at his father because his father will have taken his guitar from him. So Michael’s going to run away from home. Yes, he is. He’s going to run away from home and he’s going to go to the moon. Michael will go to the moon because there will be a lot of guitars on the moon.

Well, after Michael arrives on the moon he’s going to meet another monkey and his name will be Charlie. And Michael and Charlie are going to hit it off because they’re both going to play the guitar. But, unfortunately, Michael will not be allowed to play the guitar on the moon. He will not be allowed to play the guitar on the moon because he will not have gotten straight As. You see, only monkeys who have straight As will be allowed to play guitar on the moon at that time.

Charlie is going to be allowed to play guitar on the moon because Charlie will have gotten straight As but Michael will not be allowed to play guitar on the moon. Well, Michael is going to want to play guitar on the moon with Charlie so Michael’s going to turn over a new leaf. Michael’s going to go home and he’s going to start going to school again and he’s never going to cut class. And Michael is going to hit the books every day after school for seven hours.

And the result is going to be positive because Michael’s going to get straight As that year at school. Well, after Michael gets straight As at school, his father will give him his guitar back. But Michael isn’t going to stay at home, no. Michael’s going to go back to the moon and every day he’s going to play guitar with Charlie.

Okay, so that’s the end of our second point of view story. Now in that story, I told you the story as if it will happen in the future. So there’s one more point of view story in this lesson. In this story you’re going to hear the story from Michael’s point of view, okay? And the story is going to be told as if it has already happened in the past. So you’re going to have to pretend that I’m Michael. Okay, let’s start the story.

Hello, my name is Michael and I am a monkey and I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time I was 16 years old and I hated going to school so every day I cut class and went to the beach. And when I was at the beach I sat in the sand and played guitar.

Well, unfortunately, I failed all five of my classes. So my parents were upset with me and my parents wanted me to hit the books every day after school for five hours. Well, I refused to hit the books. Instead I went into my bedroom and I played guitar. So my father took my guitar from me. Yes, he took my guitar and he told me that if I wanted my guitar back then I had to improve my grades. Well, I wan angry at my dad because he took my guitar from me so I ran away from home and I went to the moon. I went to the moon because there were a lot of guitars on the moon.

Well, after I arrived on the moon I met another monkey and his name was Charlie. And Charlie and I hit it off because we both played guitar. Well, unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to play guitar on the moon because I didn’t get straight As. You see, only monkeys who got straight As were allowed to play guitar on the moon.

Charlie was allowed to play guitar on the moon because he got straight As but I was not allowed to play guitar on the moon because I didn’t get straight As. Well, I wanted to play guitar on the moon with Charlie so I turned over a new leaf. I went home and I started going to school again and I never cut class. And every day after school I went home and I hit the books for seven hours.

And the result was positive because that school year I got straight As. Well, after I got straight As my father gave me my guitar back but I didn’t stay at home. No, I didn’t. I went back to the moon and every day I played guitar with Charlie.

Okay, so that’s the end of our third and final point of view story. Now in that story I told you the story from Michael’s point of view. And you heard the story as if it had already happened in the past. So I want you

to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days. And, this is very important now, as you listen to each story, I want you to remember the point of view that the story is being told from, okay? And as you listen to each story over and over again, you will start to understand how the words in each story change as the point of view changes.

Okay, well, that’s the end of this point of view lesson. I’ll see you next time.
