Areas of Impact – POV

Hello and welcome to the point of view stories. Let’s get started, the first is in the past.

Nicola was a woman. Her friends were Chimmy the monkey and Heva the dog. Together they were treasure hunters. They had been best friends for a long time. They had only been treasure seekers for a fairly short time. Together they had founded a treasure seeking company and they had traveled to both Thailand and Hong Kong in search of famous treasures. And, they were rich. They had made $360,000 from their last job.

Chimmy said, “Ooh, what should we do with all this money?” Heva said, “I’m gonna buy a lot of food.” Chimmy said, “Think bigger Heva.” Nicola said, “Let’s go back to Thailand and have a real vacation this time, spas, beaches, massages, nice hotels and we’ll fly first class.” “Now you’re talking,” said Chimmy. “I’ll book the tickets now.” Chimmy opened his brand new laptop computer and started typing. A month later the three of them were off to San Francisco Airport with their luggage. They were in a boisterous mood, which is why they didn’t notice the black limo following their taxi.

The three checked in, passed through security and boarded their flight to Bangkok, first class of course. The service in first class was wonderful and so was the food. “Now, aren’t you glad you listened to me and became a treasure seeker,” said Chimmy? “Well, I have to admit this is pretty nice. I could get used to this,” said Nicola. Heva said, “And the food is great.” “Well get used to it both of you, we’re treasure seekers now and it’s a life of riches and adventures from now on,” said Chimmy.

Back in coach a pair of beady eyes glared at the three, but they didn’t notice. They arrived in Bangkok and took a taxi to the Oriental Hotel, which is right next to the river. Nicola immediately booked a spa day. Heva and Chimmy swam and relaxed by the pool. Later they met in the hotel restaurant for dinner and then returned to their room, feeling full, refreshed and relaxed. But, as they entered their room they gasped! Waiting in the room were six tough looking gangsters and sitting on their bed was their old rival, the giant rat named Geddy.

“Well, well, well, you three seem to be enjoying yourselves,” said Geddy. “Geddy, they said together.” “That’s right it’s me, the one you left behind. The one you left to be caught. The one you betrayed,” said Geddy.

All right, our next version is the future, into the future. Imagine this happened in the future. We can see into the future. We dream about it and somehow we know it will happen in the future.

In the future there will be a woman, her name is Nicola. Her best friends will be Chimmy the monkey and Heva the dog. Together they’ll be treasure hunters. Now, at that time in the future they will have been best friends for a long time. They’ll have known each other for a long time and they’ll have been treasure seekers for only a short time. Together they will have founded a treasure seeking company and they’ll have traveled to both Thailand and Hong Kong at that time, in search of famous treasures. At that time in the future they’ll be rich, because they will have just made $360,000 from their last job.

Chimmy will say, “Ooh, what should we do with all this money?” Heva will say, “I’m gonna buy a lot of food.” Chimmy will say, “Think bigger Heva.” Nicola will say, “Let’s go back to Thailand and have a real vacation this time, spas, beaches, massages, nice hotels and we’ll fly first class.” What’s Chimmy gonna say next? Chimmy’s going to say “Now you’re talking, I’ll book the tickets.” Chimmy will open his brand new laptop computer and start typing. A month after that the three of them will be off to San Francisco Airport with their luggage. They’ll be in a boisterous mood, which is why they won’t notice the black limo following their taxi.

The three will check in, pass through security and board their flight to Bangkok, first class. The service in first class, of course, will be great. It’ll be wonderful and so will the food. “Now, aren’t you glad you listened to me and became a treasure seeker,” Chimmy will ask? Nicola’s gonna say, “Well, I have to admit this is pretty nice. I could get used to this”. “And the food is great,” Heva will say. “Well get used to it both of you, we’re treasure seekers now and it’s a life of riches and adventures from now on,” Chimmy will say.

Back in coach a pair of beady eyes will glare at the three, but they won’t notice. They’ll arrive in Bangkok and take a taxi to the Oriental Hotel, which is right next to the river. Nicola will immediately book a spa day. Heva and Chimmy swim and relax by the pool. They’ll meet in the hotel restaurant later for dinner and then they’ll return to their room, full, refreshed and relaxed. But, as they enter their room they’ll gasp, because waiting in the room will be six tough looking gangsters and sitting on their bed was their old rival, the giant rat named Geddy.

All right, that is the future. Of course, gonna means going to. Use it for the casual way of speaking when we talk about the future. Also notice the ‘ll sound, Chimmy’ll, Nicola’ll, Geddy’ll… that means will. Just listen to these don’t think about the grammar rules. Just listen to each version every day. Gradually your feeling for English grammar will get better and better and better.

I will see you next time. Have a great day.

Bye for now.?
