Hello my dear friends and learners. How are you doing?

Welcome to lesson number eight of absolutely essential words in this lesson.

We’re going to introduce twelve essential and very important words and we’re going to use all of these words in one interesting story.

So please listen up listen carefully try to understand the correct pronunciation of these words and actually you have to realize how we use these words in different examples.

The first word is vicinity. Vicinity, vicinity means a region near a place or a neighborhood.

Yes I think the best synonym for vicinity can be a neighborhood yes neighborhood.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. Living in the vicinity of New York, Jeremy was near many museums.

b. the torrent of rain fell only in our vicinity.

Torrent an essential word of this sentence as we studied this word before.

Torrent means actually flood, flood. And the last example:

c. we approached the Baltimore vicinity by car.

Can you remember the meaning of approach? Approach means to actually go or come near to something.

We approach the Baltimore vicinity neighborhood by car. The first essential word of Lesson Number 9 is vicinity which means neighborhood. Try to understand this word.

The next essential word word number two is century. Century, century means one hundred years.

Maybe this camera, this picture you see is a century old. Who knows?

a. George Washington lived in the 18th century.

That’s right.

b. the United States is more than two centuries old.

Two centuries equal to hundred years, right? That’s right.

c. Many prominent men have been born in this century.

Yes in this century. The essential word of this sentence is prominent.

Do you know of meaning prominent? Prominent means very important.

So many important men have been born in this century.

The next word is rage, rage.

So you can see this picture. The guy is in a rage I guess. So rage means violent anger. Something that arouses intense but brief enthusiasm. Rage.

Let’s use it in different examples.

a. Jones’s bad manners sent her mother into rage. Violence anger.

b. in a fit of rage Francine broke the valuable glass. That was really bad.

c. The mayor felt a sense of rage about the exaggeration in the press.

Yes the essential word here is exaggeration.

Can you remember and understand the meaning of exaggeration?

Yes exaggeration means to make something bigger than usual to overstate. Exaggeration.

The next essential word and important word is document and I think most of the learners know the meaning of document. Document means something handwritten or printed that gave us information or proof of some facts. Document.

a. newly discovered documents showed that the prisoner was obviously innocent.

Yes so obviously means clearly and I guess we have studied this word before in the previous lessons. Obvious clear.

b. the documents of ancient Rome have survived many centuries.

The essential word here is survived which means to stay alive, survive.

c. We were reluctant to destroy important documents.

We were reluctant and the essential word of this sentence is reluctant which means unwilling.

Yes unwilling. Let’s actually study and learn the next word. Conclude. Conclude means to end, Finish and to decide.

There are three synonym. Conclude.

a. most people are happy when they conclude their work for the day.

When they finish and end their work for the day. Yes that’s right. I have the same feeling.

b. the gloomy day concluded with a thunderstorm.

The essential word in this sentence is gloomy which means dark and depressing.

And the last example:

c. work on the building could not be concluded until the contract was signed.

Yes the work on the building could not be actually end. That’s right. Conclude means end or finish.

I have to tell you that conclude as a verb and the noun is conclusion. Conclusion.

The next word is undeniable. Yes undeniable means something that is not to be denied something that can’t be questioned.

It’s undeniable and there is another synonym for this word and that is unquestionable. So undeniable means something that is unquestionable.

a. The jury concluded that the teenagers were undeniably guilty.

They were certainly guilty and there is no question about this.

b. it is undeniable that most professionals can beat any amateur.

I agree with this sentence. Can you tell me the meaning of amateur? Amateur means people who are not professional in their jobs and careers. They are amateur.

And c: That Leone resented Rita’s good marks in school was undeniable.

Yes it was undeniable. And actually the essential word here is resented which means to feel injured. And we studied this word before

The next word is a resist, resist. Resist means to act against strive against or oppose. Resist.

a. Totie could not resist eating the chocolate sunday.

Yes he couldn’t actually oppose or act against it.

b. Tight security measures resisted Jimmy’s entrance into the bank.

Yes. Which means to stop somebody or act again somebody.

c. Harold resisted the opportunity to poke fun at the weird man.

Oh there is a very nice and essential word and that is weird.

Can you remember the meaning of weird? Weird means something that is not normal something that is mysterious right. That’s the meaning of weird

Next word is lack. So lack means be entirely without something, have not enough.

Yes like when we don’t have enough of something we can’t say that there is a lack of something.

Let me give you some examples to make it more clear for you.

a. your daily diet should not lack fruits and vegetables.

Yes our daily diet should not be without fruits and vegetables.

b. His problem was that he lacked a variety of talents.

Oh we have two nice essential words here variety which means many different talents means skills.

c. as an amateur dancer, Vincent knew that he lacked the professional touch.

An essential word here is amateur which means unexperienced and a person who has no actually experience and not proficient in something.

The next word is ignore, ignore.

You can see the man in this picture of the boy is ignoring the girl. Ignor means to pay no attention to somebody or something.

Or we can say disregard, disregard.

a. little Alice realized that if she didn’t behave her parents would ignore her.

Parents would pay no attention to her.

b. the student could not answer the question because he ignored the obvious facts.

The obvious. Can you remember? Obvious means something that is very clear.

c. Older brothers and sisters often feel ignored when their parents only spend time with the new baby.

Yes exactly. Most of the children feel the same. Yes they feel actually really bad when parents ignored them.

So we ignore means pay no attention or disregard.

Can you tell me the noun of this word? Ignore is a verb and the noun is ignorance, ignorance.

The next essential word is Challenge.

Challenge means call to a fight, call to a fight.

a. Aaron Burr challenged Alexander Hamilton to a duel.

No one bother to challenge the prominent lawyer and the essential word prominent which means a very important and well-known person.

c. trying to become a doctor was quite a challenge, Dick discovered.

Yes it was a great and big challenge. So challenge means call to a fight.

The next word is miniature. As you can see in this picture there is a miniature actually soldiers. Miniature means represented on a small scale.

Miniature is adjective here. Let me give you some examples.

a. The young boy wanted a miniature sports car for his birthday.

Yes represented the small scale.

b. Instead of buying a massive dog, or really big dog Teddy got a miniature poodle.

Poor Teddy. An essential word in this sentence is massive which means something that is really really big.

c. We were seeking a miniature model of the bulky chess set.

Yes.

Can you tell me the actually meaning of bulky?

Can you remember the meaning of bulky?

We studied this word in previous lessons.

Bulky means something that is really big and huge, bulky.

The next word is source as you can see in this picture you can find a source. So source is a place from which something comes or obtained.

That’s a source an origin of something.

Let me give you some examples.

a. The college student knew that he needed more than a basic textbook as a source for his report.

That’s it’s.

b. the source of Buddy’s trouble was boredom.

Yes. The origin of Buddy’s trouble was boredom and Tiring.

c. Professor Smith’s speech was a valid source of information on chemistry.

What is the essential word in this sentence and that’s valid. Which means? Can you remember the meaning of valid?

Yes, valid. It means something that is true and something that is authentic.
