Lesson 8

Hello everybody.

How is it going?

Welcome to lesson number eight. Five or four absolutely essential words.

as always in this lesson we are going to introduce actually twelve nice essential words and we are going to give you clear definitions and we will use these words in different examples to make things very clear for you.

You just need to focus. at the end We will have a story and we will use all of these words in one story.

Let’s start with the first word.

The first word is exaggerate, exaggerate. exaggerate means make something greater than it is or we can say overstate. overstate is a great synonym for exaggerate. exaggerate is a verb. The noun is exaggeration, Exaggeration.

Example A.

a. He wasn’t trying to deceive you when he said that his was the best car in the world. He was just exaggerating.

He was just trying to make something greater than it is.

So the essential word in this sentence is deceive.

Can you remember the meaning of deceive? deceive means actually to trick or deceive or we can say actually to fool somebody.

Next example:

b. the bookkeeper exaggerated her importance to the company.

Yes overstates.

c. when he said that O’Neal was eight feet tall, He was undoubtedly exaggerating.

Yes he was undoubtedly, undoubtedly is an essential word in this sentence means certainly, certainly.

So this is the first word of Lesson Number Eight actually and that is exaggerate which means to overstate,to make something greater than it is.

The second word is actually amateur, amateur. amateur means person who does something for a pleasure not for money or as a profession.

Yes a person who is not very professional in his business, in his career, in his job is amateur a very nice word.

a. The amateur cross-country runner wanted to be in the Olympics.

b. after his song, Don was told that he wasn’t good enough to be anything but an amateur.

or a person who is not very professional amateur or professional golfers resent amateurs who think they are as good as actually the people who pay who play for money. Yes.

So c. the professional golfers resent, the essential word here is resent which means to feel angered.

To feel actually injured and we studied and we learned this word I guess in Lesson Number seven.

the next word is mediocre, mediocre. mediocre means neither good nor bad or we can say average or ordinary.

So that’s the meaning of mediocre.

a. After reading my composition Mrs. Evens remarked that it was actually mediocre and that I could do better.

Yes so mediocre it was mediocre means it was ordinary.

b. Howard was a mediocre scientists who never made any unique discoveries.

Yes he was a regular ordinary scientist. and essential word in this sentence is unique, unique means something that is matchless, something that is actually has no likes or no equal. the next example is:

c. the movie wasn’t as great,The movie wasn’t a great one, It was only mediocre. It was an average ordinary one. Yes.

So this is an essential works. Mediocre means ordinary.

the next essential word is variety.

We use this word in different examples in different actually sources. variety.

as you can see in the picture we have variety of people. so variety means lack of sameness; a number of different things.

Variety. Okay guys let me give you some examples and use this word in different examples.

a. Eldorado Restaurant serves a wide variety of foods. Yes.

b. The show featured a variety of entertainment. a variety of entertainment means many different entertainments.

and the last example:

c. he faced unforeseen problems for a variety of reasons.

so unforeseen the word here means unexpected right unforeseen. something that is unexpected and we studied and we learned this words in previous lessons.

The next essential word is valid, valid.

You can see in this picture the passports the Canadian passport is completely valid.

so valid means something that is supported by facts or authority something that is sound and true. valid, valid is an adjective.

And actually the noun is a validity, validity.

Let me give you some examples.

a. The witness neglected to give valid answers to the judge’s questions.

The essential word here is neglected. Which means to give a little or no care to something.

b.Rita had valid reasons for denouncing her father’s way of life.

Yes denounce is an essential word which means to condemn somebody in public or to criticize somebody very strongly, denounce.

c. when Dave presented valid working papers, The formen consented to hiring him immediately.

The essential word here is consented which means agree to consent to something or somebody means to agree with something or somebody. Valid, .

the next essential word is survive, survive. Yes as you can see in this picture survive means to live longer than to remain alive after. That’s the meaning of survive.

a. It was uncertain whether we would survive the torrent of rain.

Yes. Can you remember the meaning of torrent? torrents means flood, flood. That’s it.

b. Some people believe that only the strongest should survive. only the strongest should survive and live longer than actually usual.

c. the space capsule was built to survive a long journey in space.

Exactly yes. So survive means to live longer than and to remain alive after. Yes.

The next essential word is weird. as you can see in this picture, Actually this is a weird, creature. so weird means mysterious something that is mysterious and unearthy.

When we speak about something that is not normal, we say that’s weird. Weird.

a. She looked weird with that horrible makeup on her face.

b. Allen felt that weird things were starting to happen,When he enters the haunted house. the abandoned and haunted house.

c. Becky had a weird feeling after swallowing the pills.

Yes this is a very nice word. Weird which means mysterious and unearthly.

prominent. as you can see in this picture of the guy, The man I think is very prominent. prominent means well-known and important, when we speak about important and well-known things and people, we can use the adjective prominent.

a. My client is a prominent businessperson.

prominent very important. client is an essential word in this sentence which means customer. my client means my customer.

b. Napoleon is a prominent figure in the history of France. A very important figure.

c. Her violence Sorry her Violet eyes where the prominent feature of the model’s face. that’s it. the prominent feature very important feature. Very nice word.

Next word is security, security.

Security is an important part of every house bank or every building.

So security means freedom from danger, care or fear. Or we can say feeling or conditions of being safe, security.

a. Our janitor likes the security of having all doors locked at night.

b. when the president travels, Strict security measures are taken.

c. Pablo wanted to preserve the security of his lifestyle.

So security a Very nice word and an essential word here is preserve, preserve can you remember?preserve means to protect something, to save something. Yes that’s it.

the next essential word is reluctant, reluctant.

So guys reluctant means unwilling. as you can see in this picture the guy is unwilling to do something I guess.

Let me give you some examples.

a. It was easy to see that Herman was reluctant to go out and find a job.

He was unwilling to go out and find a job. That’s right.

b. The patient was reluctant to tell the nurse the whole gloomy truth.

yes gloomy means. Can you remember the meaning of gloomy? gloomy means something that is dark, depressing or damn.

and the last example:

c. I was reluctant to give up the security of family life. Yes I was unwilling to give up the security.

We learned this word in the previous I think in this lesson.

Security means actually safety a very nice word Reluctant means unwilling.

and the last word of this lesson is obvious, obvious. yes obvious, obvious means something that is easily seen or understood clear to the eye or mind or not to be doubtered.

or when we speak about something that is clear or plain we can say that’s very obvious. It’s very clear.

Let me give you some examples.

a. It was obvious that the lumberjack was tired after his day’s work.

b. the fact that Darcy was a popular boy was obvious to all.

It was clear to everybody. An essential word here is popular which means actually a person or something that is well known or liked by many people.

c. The detective missed the clue because it was too obvious.

It was actually very clear. So this is an essential word. Obvious something that is clear and plain.

So these are the essential words of this lesson.
