Lesson 40

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number forty of 504 absolutely essential words.

Like every lesson like always we’re goanna introduce twelve essential words and I’m going to use all of these words in different examples, different context.

And please do not Nick like this point that if you want to understand all of these words it’s better to use them in different examples in different sentences.

You can always send me your examples and I will be always there to correct you.

So guys let’s start with the first word of lesson number 40.

The first word is epidemic.

Epidemic means an outbreak of a disease that spreads rapidly so that many people have it at the same time; or we can say widespread. widespread is another actually synonym for epidemic.

Some diseases are epidemic and we should be very careful.

a. All of the schools in the city were closed during the epidemic.

b. That depiction of violence in the movies has reached epidemic proper proportions.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is depiction which means actually describing something or we can say explaining something with pictures and word.

the next one is violence which means cruel things.

Sentence Part C during the epidemic we were forbidden to drink water unless it had been boiled.

So we have one essential word here forbidden which means banned or prohibited.

So this is the first words of Lesson Number 40 epidemic, epidemic an outbreak of disease that spreads rapidly.

Word number two is obesity.

As you can see in this picture obesity means extreme fatness. Obesity and we use it as a noun.

a. Obesity is considered a serious disease.

Yes obesity and fatness is regarded as a serious disease.

b. The salesman tactfully referred to Jack’s obesity as stoutness.

So we have two essential words here.

The first one is tactfully which means using the right words using the right words in the right situations.

So we can we can’t make people angry and referred means to direct your attention to a one person.

c. At the medical convention the topic discussed was the prevention of childhood obesity.

And we have one essential word here and that is topic which means subject. Yes topic means subject.

Magnify. The next word is magnify. Magnify means to cause to look larger than it is to make too much of it; go beyond the true thing telling.

Another synonym for magnifies is exaggerates. Yes exaggerate to make things greater than they really are. To magnify.

a. A microscope is a magnifying glass.

b. It seems that Mr. Steinmetz magnified the importance of the document in his possession.

c. Some people have a tendency to magnify every minor fault in others.

So we have two essential words here the first one is tendency which means a willing to do something.

The next one is minor which means very small. Yes small parts of every actually think.

Nick’s essential word is chiropractor, chiropractor. Chiropractor is a person who treats ailments by massage and manipulation of the vert vertebrate and other forms of therapy on the theory that diseases results from interference with the normal functioning of the nervous system.

So a chiropractor as you can see in this picture I think the guy’s trying to massage the little Baby in order to get rid of the diseases or other problems. So he is a chiropractor.

a. The chiropractor tried to relieve the pain by manipulating the spinal column.

So we have two essential words here. The first one is relieve which means to make somebody free from any pain but the next one is manipulate.

Manipulate means to treat something or somebody very skillfully.

b. Mrs. Lehrer confirmed that a chiropractor had been treating her.

She confirms she verified this statement.

c. The chiropractor recommended hot baths between treatments.

So this is an essential word of this part chiropractor.

The next essential word is obstacle. As you can see in this picture there is an obstacle for the other person to jump.

So obstacle means anything that gets in the way or hinders or we can say an impediment. Yes impediment and obstructionist.

So these are other symptoms for obstacle anything that gets in the way or hinders.

a. The soldiers were compelled to get over such obstacles as ditches and barbed wire.

The essential word here is compelled. they were compelled.

Guys do you know the meaning of compelled?

Can you remember we studied this word in previous lessons?

But if you cannot remember compelled means forced. We were forced.

b. Ignorance is an obstacle to progress.

I completely agree with this part ignorance. Ignorance. Do You know the meaning of ignorance?

A person who is ignorant is not wise.

So ignorance means actually for getting the wise and important things.

c. Prejudice is often an obstacle to harmony among people.

The next essential word is ventilate, ventilate. Ventilate means actually change the air in; purify by fresh air or discuss openly. So ventilate has two meanings to change the air and to discuss something very openly and then noun and is ventilation. we use ventilate as a verb.

a. We ventilated the kitchen by opening the windows.

b. The lungs ventilate the blood.

c. There is merit in ventilating the topic of the prom before the entire senior class.

The essential word here is merit which means goodness or we can say advantage.

There is an advantage and there is a goodness in ventilating the topic which means to speaking about the topic very openly.

The next essential an important word is jeopardize. Jeopardize means to risk or to endanger your life. To put your life in a risk. Jeopardize.

a. Soldiers jeopardize their lives in a war.

b. Mr. Marcos revised his opinion of police officers after two of them had jeopardized their lives to save his drowning child.

So we have one essential word here and that is revised. Revised means to change and to alter something.

c. Though it jeopardized his chance for a promotion Mr. Rafael venture to criticize his boss.

And the essential word here is venture. Venture means to put your life in at risk. Yes to risk something.

The next essential word is negative. Negative means saying no; minus; showing though lights and shadows reversed. Negative.

So negative is an adjective.

a. The captain gave a negative response to the request for a leave.

So negative response means negative vamp cer.

b. Three below zero is a negative quantity.

When you speak a quantity you speak about numbers. We speak about the amount.

a. A negative image is used to print a positive picture.

Negative the opposite of negative is positive.

Some people have a negative actually thinking and some people have positive thinking but those with positive thinking are more successful.

The next essential word is pension.

Pension means regular payment that is not wages; to make such a payments. So pension.

a. Pensions are often paid because of long service, special merit, or injuries received.

b. The pension is calculated on the basis of your last year’s income.

c. Mrs. Colby pensioned off her employee after thirty years of loyal silvers.

The essential word in this sentence is loyal which means honest. Yes loyal means honest.

The next essential word is vital. Vital means something that is very important having to do with life; necessary to life; causing death; failure or ruin; lively.

But when we speak about vital, we speak about something that we cannot leave without.

We must preserve and protect our vital resources.

Our necessary very necessary resources. and the essential word here is preserve which means save to save something.

b. Eating is a vital function, The obese man reminded me.

Obese man means a very fat man. We just learned the meaning of this word just a few minutes ago.

c. The valiant soldier died of a vital wound in Iraq.

And the essential word here is a valiant soldier.

Valiant means actually a very brave and courageous person and we have studied these words in previous lessons.

If you cannot remember you if you cannot remember them I suggest you to come back and review those lessons.

Municipal, municipal. Municipal a something of a city or state; having something to do in the affairs of a city or town. Municipal.

a. The state police assisted the municipal police in putting down the riot.

b. There was only a mediocre turnout of for the municipal elections.

And the essential word here is mediocre which means something neither bad nor good.

Something that is actually average.

c. The municipal government the musical government is the office that they are responsible for city affairs.

So the municipal government placed a ban on parking during business hours.

And the essential word here is ban which means to actually forbid something from happening.

And the last word is oral. Oral is spoken; using speech; of the mouth. Oral is adjective. With speak about spoken things. We can use the words oral.

a. An oral agreement is not enough, we must have a written promise.

b. Oral surgery is accessory to penetrate to the diseased root.

Penetrate means Pierce or go into.

c. His unique oral powers made Lincoln a man to remember.

The essential word here is unique which means something that is spatial and matchless.

So guys we learned twelve essential words in this lesson. Lesson number 40.
