Lesson 38

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number thirty eight of absolutely essential words and this lesson like all the lessons we’re goanna learn twelve essential words.

And we’re going to use them in different examples and guys please ask me your questions and the end of lesson.

If you have any questions please ask me and do not feel shy. if you want to learn these words I always suggest you to use these words in different examples.

So let’s start with the first words.

The first word is biography.

Biography means the written story of a person’s life; the part of literature that consists of biographies.

As you can see in this picture there is a biography and a reading story of this person.

a. Our teachers recommended the biography of the architect Frank Lloyd to wright.

We have two essential words in this sentence. The first one is recommended. Recommended means to suggest or to advise somebody to do something.

The next word is architect which means a person who designs buildings and apartments and houses.

b. The reading of a biography gives a knowledge of people and events that cannot always be obtained from history books.

I completely agree with this part.

We have two essential words here events and obtained. Events means happenings and we have studied these word and previous lessons and obtain means to get or achieve something.

c. The biography of Malcolm X is a popular book in our school.

Popular means something that is actually well-known and liked by most of the people.

So guys this is the first word of lesson number thirty eight, biography.

And most of you guys actually know the meaning of this word.

Word number two is drench. Drench means wet thoroughly or soak.

We use it as a verb most of the times.

a. A heavy rain drenched the campus, so it wet thoroughly the campus, and the students had to dry out of their wet clothing.

And the essential word here in this sentence is campus which means the crowd of college students, university or schools.

b. The drenching rains resumed after only one day of sunshine.

So guys do you know the meaning of resume?

We have studied this word in previous lessons. Resume means to continue after a short stop.

c. His fraternity friends tried to drench him but he was too clever for them.

So this is word number two of Lesson Number 38. Drench.

Swarm. The next essential word is swarm. Swarm is a group of insects flying or moving about together; crowd or great number; to fly or move about in great numbers.

As you can see in this picture there is a swarm of birds flying together. So when you speak about a group of people that move or fly or do something together, we can use the word swarm.

Swarm is a noun and verb. let’s use it in different examples.

a. As darkness approached, the swarms of children playing in the park dwindled to a handful.

So we have two essential words in this part.

The first one is approach which means to come or go near to something. The next one is dwindled which means to become smaller and smaller.

b. The mosquitoes swarmed out of the swamp. Yes swarmed out of this swamp.

c. Our campus swarmed with new students in September.

So as you can see swarm is used as a verb here.

The next essential word is wobble, wobble. Wobble means move unsteadily from side to side like the child who just learns to walk. he wobbles.

a. Little Perry thrust his feet into the oversized shoes and wobbled over the table.

So we have one essential word here on that is thrust. thrust means to push something with force.

b. A baby wobbles when it begins to walk alone.

c. Lacking experience on the high wire, the clown wobbled along until he arranged the safety of the platform.

That’s one of the most essential words in this book.

And this course wobble and it’s one of my favorite words actually.

The next essential word is tumult. Tumult means noise; uproar; violent disturbance or disorder.

These are different synonyms that can define the meaning of tumult. As you can see in this picture there is a great noise everybody’s shouting everybody’s objecting everybody’s complaining.

So it’s a kind of tumult.

a. The sailors’ voices were too feeble to be heard above the tumult of the storm.

We have one essential word here and that’s feeble which means somebody that is not strong that person or something that is very weak.

b. There was such a tumult in the halls we concluded an accident had occurred.

So that’s it.

c. The dreaded cry of afire cause it tumult in the theater.

So that’s a very good and essential word.

The next word is kneel. Kneel means go down on one’s kneel and remain on the knees.

As you can see in this picture of the players on the couch.

Actually the coach that they have kneeled.

a. Myra knelt down to pull a weed from the drenched flower bed.

So actually we have one essential word here and that’s deranged which means actually to be wet completely.

So something that is drenched is wet completely.

b. The condemned man knelt before the monarch and pleaded for mercy.

As you can see we have three essential words here the first one is condemn. Condemn means to call a person, a person who is actually in a court because he is guilty of something and monarchies a queen or king and plead actually means to make a request or request.

And we have studied all of these essential words in previous lessons.

So guys if you think that you cannot remember these words I always suggest to come back and review the words that we have taught you.

c. Kneeling over the still figure, the lifeguard tried to revive him.

Do you guys know what the meaning of revive? Revive here means to make somebody alive to bring back to life.

The next essential word is dejected. As you can see in this picture this little girl leaves dejected.

Dejected means in low spirits; sad or in a bad mood.

So his biography related that Edison was not dejected by failure.

Biography as I told you reading story about one’s life related here means to mention or said or explained that Edison was not sad by failure.

b. The defeated candidate felt dejected and scowled when asked for an interview.

So candidate is a person who is chosen for his spatial position. He fell dejected sad and scowled.

Do you know guys do you guys know the meaning of scowl? Scowls means frown or to lower your eyebrows because you are sad or angry.

c. There is no reason to be dejected because we didn’t get any volunteers.

So this is an essential word of this part. Dejected. To be in low spirits to be very sad.

The next essential word is obedient.

Obedient means doing what one is told; willing to obey.

As you can see in this picture this dog is obedient.

He’s listening to his own.

a. The obedient dog came when his master beckoned.

Beckon is an essential word in this part which means to signal somebody by your hands or head.

b. Obedient to his father’s wishes, Guy didn’t explore any further.

Explore here means to search something or to probe something.

c. When parents make reasonable requests of them, the majority of any friends, actually the majority of my friends are obedient.

The essential word here is majority which means most of. So majority of my friends means most of my friends.

The next essential word is a recede. Yes recede. Recede means go back; Move back; slope backward; or we can say withdrawal.

Most of the time we use this word as a verb.

Actually let’s use it in different examples.

a. As you ride past in a train, you have the unique feeling that houses on trees are receding.

They are coming back.

And the essential word here is unique which means something that is spatial and matchless.

Mr. Ranford’s beard conceals his receding chin.

Do you guys know the meaning of conceal? conceal means to hide something.

Yes to hide something from other people.

c. Always cautious, Mr. Camhi receded from his former opinion.

So the essential word here is cautious which means a person who is watchful and careful.

The next essential words tyrant. Tyrant means cruel or unjust ruler; cruel master; absolute ruler.

As you can see in this picture this king is tyrant. He’s cruel.

a. Some tyrants of Greek cities were mild and fair rulers.

b. The tyrant demanded loyalty and obedience from his subjects.

We have two essential words here and the first one is loyalty which means honesty.

The next one is obedience means doing what you are actually set to do.

c. Though Ella was a tyrant as director of the play, the whole cast was grateful to her when the final curtain came down.

And the essential word here as you can see is grateful which means thankful, to be thankful for actually a person.

Charity. Charity means generous giving to the poor; institutions for helping the sick’ the poor, or helpless or we can say kindness in judging people’s faults.

That’s the meaning of charity.

a. A free hospital is a noble charity.

b. The entire community is the beneficiary of Henry’s charity.

c. The hired hand was too proud to accept help or charity.

So we can use charity as a noun. And I guess now you know the meaning of charity.

The next essential word is verdict. Verdict means decision of a jury or we can say judgments.

a. The jury returned a verdict of guilty for the traitor.

As we studied the word of the Tyrant. Tyrant means a cruel or a ruler.

b. We were cautioned not to base our verdict on prejudice.

c. Baffled by the verdict, The prosecutor felt that the verdict, The evidence had been ignored.

We have some essential words in this sentence. Baffled means confused and evidence means proof and ignored means to pay no attention to somebody.

And that was the last essential words of lesson number 38.
