Lesson 36

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number 36 of absolutely essential words in this lesson.

We’re goanna learn twelve essential words like every other lesson. And we’re goanna use them in a very nice interesting story.

So please guys focus and at the end of this lesson you can ask me all of your questions if you have any doubt any questions please feel free to ask me.

So are you ready to start with the first word?

The first word of lesson number thirty six is actually prompt. Yes prompt.

Prompt means quick; on time; done at once; to cause someone; to do something as a verb, as a verb we can use it to mean remind someone of the words or actions needed.

So we can use it as a verb and as a noun and sometimes as an adjective which means something very quick.

So let’s use this actually word in different examples.

a. Be prompt in assembling your baggage. Which means be quick in assembling your baggage.

We have two essential words here the first one is assemble which means to put things together.

And the next one is baggage which means suitcases that we usually take when we travel to other countries other places.

b. Terry’s caution prompted him which means it reminds him to ask many questions before he consented.

And we have one essential word at the end of this sentence and that’s consented, consent.

Can you remember the meaning of consent? We have studied this word in previous lesson. Consent means to agree with somebody yes to agree with somebody.

b. Larry was confident he knew his lines well enough not to need any prompting any reminding.

So he was confident he was completely sure of himself. so be confident means to be completely sure of yourself.

So this was the first word of lesson number thirty six. Prompt very nice word.

Word number two is hasty, hasty. As you can see in this picture this man is hasty. Hasty means quick; hurried; not well thought out. Hasty.

a. A hasty glance convinced him that he was being followed. A hasty glance which means a very quick look.

Glance here means a quick look and we have studied this word before.

b. Rather than make a hasty decision, Mr. Torres rejected the offer.

The essential word here is rejected which means actually to refuse to do something or to deny something. Yes.

c. Myra apologize for the hasty visits. Yes she apologize for the hasty to visit.

The essential Word in this sentence is apologize which means to say that you are sorry. Apologize.

The next essential word is scorch. Scorch means burn slightly; dry up; criticized sharply.

It has two different meanings and we can use it in different situations. We use the word scorch as a verb.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. The hot iron scorched the tablecloth. Which means burnt the table cloth.

b. Farmers reported that their wheat was being scorched by the fierce rays of sun.

Fierce, fierce means of violent. yes fierce means violent.

c. Mr. Reagan gave the class a scorching lecture on proper behavior in the cafeteria.

And the essential word here is lecture which means a subject that a person speaks and talks about in public sometimes.

Yes Scorch, Scorch and the adjective is a scorching, yes scorching.

This is a very nice and essential word.

The next word is Tempest, Tempest. As you can see in this picture there is a tempest.

Tempest means a violent storm with the much wind; a violent disturbance.

The second meaning of Tempest means a violent disturbance.

a. The Tempest drove the ship on the rocks.

b. Following the weather reports of the approaching tempests, we were prompted to seek immediate shelter.

So guys as you can see we have two essential words in this sentence.

The first one is approach which means come near and we have studied this word in previous lessons.

And the next one is prompted which means reminded. we were prompted we were reminded to seek immediate shelter.

c. When Mr. Couche saw that a tempest was brewing over the issue, he hastily called a meeting.

Hastily. Hastily means doing something in a very fast and harried way. So that’s the essential word of this part. Tempests.

The next word is soothe.

As you can see in this picture the girl is being soothe.

Somebody is trying to soothe her. Soothe means to quiet calm or to comfort somebody.

We can use it as a verb and sometimes as a noun.

Soothing. Yes soothing is an adjective and the noun and Soothe is a verb.

a. With an embrace, with an embrace or embrace the mother soothe the hurt child.

With an embrace. So embrace means hugging yes hugging somebody.

b. Heat soothes some aches; cold soothes others.

Very nice very nice example.

c. Rosalie’s nerves were soothed by the soft music.

So her nerves were comforted with the soft music.

That’s actually a great feeling. Soothing.

Sympathetic, sympathetic means having or showing kind feelings toward others; approving; enjoying the same things and getting along well together.

Sympathetic, sympathetic. Yes.

a. Judge Cruz was sympathetic to the lawyer’s plea for mercy.

He was showing a kind feelings toward others.

He’s sympathetic to the lawyer’s plea for mercy. And the essential word here is plea which means can you remember the meaning of plea here?

Plea means request. yes request.

b. Father was fortunately sympathetic to my request to use the car on weekends.

c. We were all sympathetic to Suzanne over her recent misfortune.

And the essential words in these parts are recent which means something that happens recently lately and misfortune means bad luck.

Yes misfortune means bad luck.

So Miss actually sympathetic is an essential word of this part.

Redeem, redeem means buy back; pay off; carry out; set free or make up for. so redeem.

Yes to pay back and pay off.

We can use it in different situations. Let’s find out.

a. The property on which money has been lent is redeemed when the loan is paid back.

Yes it’s redeemed. It’s paid off.

b. My family was relieved to hear that the mortgage had been redeemed.

Yes and the essential word here is relieve which means to make somebody free from any pain.

And we have studied this word in previous lessons.

c. Mr. Franklin promptly quickly redeemed his promise to help us in time of need.

Yes. So this is an essential word of this part. Redeem.

The next word his resume. Yes resume, resume means to begin again; Go on; Take again.

When you begin again after a short stop you resume it.

a. Resume reading where we left off. Continue and begin again reading where we stopped.

b. Those standing actually those standing may resume their seats.

c. The violinists resumed playing after the intermission. Intermission.

Yes resume. Very nice words.

Harmony, Harmony is a situation of getting on well together or going well together.

The other meaning of harmony is sweet or musical sound.

It has two different meanings.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. We hoped the incident would not disrupt the harmony that existed between the brothers.

Disrupt which means to stop the harmony. The harmony here means the match, the great match that exists between two brothers.

b. I am sympathetic to Warren because his plans are in harmony with mine.

c. We responded to the harmony of the song by humming along. We responded.

Do you guys know the meaning of respond?

Respond means to answer something.

Yes to answer something. That’s a meaning of harmony and we use this word as a noun. Yes and the verb of this word is harmonize.

Next essential word is a refrain means to hold back or avoid something, refrain.

Yes as you can see in this picture this man is refining or refraining.

a. Refrain from referring comes with the preposition from. Refrain from making hasty promises. Avoids making fast promises. Hasty means something that happens in a very fast way.

b. Milo could not refrain from laughing at the jests.

Yes he could not avoid laughing at the joke.

c. If you want to be heard, you must refrain from mumbling. Yes mumbling means making a very stupid mistake.

Yes that’s it.

We studied these essential words in previous lessons again. Guys if you cannot remember these words, these essential words in these sentences I suggested to come back and review the previous lessons.

And the next essential word is illegal.

Illegal means not lawful; against the law.

So something that is illegally is completely against the law.

a. It is illegal to reveal the names of juvenile delinquents.

We have three nice essential words here. Reveal means to show something. Juvenile means a young and delinquent means actually guilty people.

Three Essential words.

b. Bigamy is illegal in the United States.

Yes bigamy actually means having two wives or two husbands.

c. Mr. Worthington’s illegals talk manipulations led to his jail sentence.

So that’s really terrible event and happening.

Narcotic. Narcotic means drug that produces drowsiness, sleep; dullness or an insensible condition and lessens pain by actually dulling the nerves.

That’s the meaning of narcotic.

a. Opium is a powerful narcotic.

Yes it’s a drug that produces drowsiness, sleepiness.

b. We don’t have adequate knowledge of the narcotic properties of these substances.

The essential word here is adequate which means enough.

We don’t have enough knowledge.

c. The doctor prescribed in a narcotic medicine to soothe the patient’s suffering.

And the essential word here is soothe which means to make calm.

Yes exactly smooth means to make Calm.

And that was the last word of lesson number thirty six.

We learned twelve of essential words in this lesson.
