Lesson 35

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number thirty five of absolutely essential words again in this lesson we’re going to learn twelve essential words.

Like always and we’re goanna explain them all for you and there are some pictures you can connect them with words.

And we’re goanna give you lots of examples and lots of sentences.

So please focus and try to understand them and at the end of this lesson if you think you have any questions you can always ask me.

So the first word is vague, vague. Yes u is not pronounced.

Vague means not definite; not clear and not distinct. Something that is not clear as you can see in this picture, this picture is vague.

a. Joe’s position was vague because he wanted to remain neutral in the disputes.

We have two essential words here the first one is neutral which means taking no side.

A person who takes no side. And the next one is dispute which means discussion.

b. When asked her opinion, Gladys was tactful enough to give a vague answer that did not hurt anyone.

And the essential word here is tactful which means actually being wise to act actually in a right way in different situations. Tact.

c. The vague shape in the distance proved to be nothing more weird than a group of trees.

And the essential word here is weird which means something that is strange and not normal.

So this was the first word of lesson number thirty five vague. A very essential word.

The next word is elevate .elevate means raise or lift up. As you can see in this picture the guy that child is trying to elevate himself.

a. Private Carbo was elevated to higher rank for his valor.

Do you guys know the meaning of valor? Can you understand it? Valor means carriage. Yes valor means carriage.

b. Reading a variety of good books elevates the mind.

And the essential word here is variety which means different kinds of.

c. The candidate spoke from an elevated platform.

Candidate is a person who is chosen and selected for a spatial position.

So this is a second essential word elevate and we use it as a verb.

Word number three is a lottery. Lottery means a scheme for distributing prizes by lot or chance. Lottery. It’s a noun.

a. The merit of a lottery is that everyone has an equal chance.

The goodness. So merit means goodness or advantage and we have studied this word in previous lessons.

b. We thought that a lottery was an absurd way of deciding who should be the team captain.

Absurd means actually the essential word in the sentence means something that is foolish and meaningless.

c. The rash young man claimed to the lottery prize only to find he had misread his number.

So the rash the essential word here is a rash. rash means careless a person who is not watchful or careful.

So this is a very essential word lottery.

Next word is finance. Finance means money matters to provide some money for somebody or something actually we use finance as a verb then as noun.

a. The new employee boasted of his skill in finance.

b. Frank circulated then the rumor that he is uncle would finance his way through college. So the essential words here circulate which means to spread something. Yes to spread something

c. Mrs. Giles retained a lawyer to handle her finances.

So retain here means actually to employee somebody or to hire somebody to do something for him.

The next essential word is obtain.

I love this word obtain. Obtain means to get to be in use. So we can use it as a verb and a noun but most of the times we use it as a verb.

Let’s use it in different examples and it’s a verb.

a. An adolescent is finding it increasingly difficult to obtain a good job without a diploma.

And the essential word here is adolescence which means a person who is very young.

b. David obtained accurate information about college from his guidance counselor.

Accurate guys do you know the meaning of accurate? Accurate is something that is exact. Yes exact.

c. Because this is coeducational school different rules obtain.

So that’ it.

And the next essential word is cinema. Cinema means moving picture. As you can see everybody knows the cinema.

And some American people called cinema Movie Theater. yes movie theater.

Censors have developed a rating system for the cinema.

Do you know the meaning of censors? Censors are the people who work for government and they filter and they censor some information because they don’t want them to be appear to be shown on the movie on the films on TV.

b. Today’s cinema is full of homicides and violence.

Two essential words homicide means killing and violence means cruel things.

c. A best seller is often the source of Cinema stories.

Yes that’s a very good word.

The next essential word is event. Event means happening; important happenings result or outcome; One item in a program of sports. Events, events. We used as a noun.

a. The greatest event in Ellie’s life was winning the 1000000 dollar lottery.

Oh that’s a lot of money.

b. We chose our seats carefully and then awaited the shot put event.

c. There is merit in gaining wisdom even after the event.

So guys as I told you merit means goodness and advantage.

Yes that’s the meaning of merit.

Discard. The next essential word the discards. Discard means throw aside or throw away.

As you can see in this picture this guy trying to throw away and throw aside his computer and he’s I think very angry with his computer.

Maybe it’s not working very well.

a. Anna casually discarded one boyfriend after another.

b. Confident that he held a winning hand, slim refused to discard anything.

So the essential word here is confidence. Confidence is a person who is sure of himself as I told it before.

c. Asked why he had discarded his family traditions, Mr. Menzel or remained mute.

We have two essential and nice words here the first one is traditions which means beliefs that are handed down from one generation to another generation and the next one is a mute which means silence.

And I guess most of you guys remember these words. We have studied these words in previous lessons of five-four.

If you don’t know them please come back carry a few of them.

The next essential word is soar.

Soar means fly upward or at a great height or we can say aspire. As you can see in this picture this bird this woman a soaring.

a. We watched the soaring eagle skim over the mountain peak.

Skim which means to move on top of something to move in a very soft way.

b. An ordinary man cannot comprehend such soaring ambition.

Comprehend is an essential word in this part which means to understand something. Yes.

c. The senator’s hopes for victory soared after his television appearance. Soar. Soar is a verb and this is a very essential word which means to fly upward or at a great height.

Try to remember it. Try to make some other examples with these words.

Subsequent. Subsequent means later; following; coming after when something comes later it’s subsequent. and we use it as an adjective.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. Subsequent events proved that Sloan was right.

So event is an essential word here which means happenings. So subsequent events are the happenings that actually happen after others.

b. Further explanations will be presented in subsequent lectures.

c. Though the enemy Fay force actually forces though the enemy forces resisted at first, they subsequently learned that their efforts were in vain.

And we have two essential words here.

The first one is always resist which means to continue firmly for a long time and the next one is a vain which means something that is hopeless.

Yes something that is hopeless and we have studied these words in previous lessons actually.

The next essential word is relate. Relate means to tell; give an account of or to connect in thought or meaning.

So this is the meaning of relate.

So in this picture where you can see that she’s relating something. she’s trying to tell her something

a. The traveler related his adventures with some exaggerations.

He spoke about his adventures with some exaggerations. Exaggerations is an essential word in this part which means speaking Actually making something bigger than it really is.

That’s the meaning of exaggeration.

And we studied this word in previous lessons.

b. After viewing the cinema’s latest show, The Observant student was able to relate every detail.

And the essential word here is observant which means a person who is very watchful.

c. Would you say that misfortune is related to carelessness?

And the essential words and misfortune which means bad luck.

Yes bad luck.

The last essential word of this lesson is stationary. Stationary means having a fixed station or place standing still not moving and not changing in size number or activity. stationary is an adjective.

When you speak about something that is fixed.

a. Factory engine is stationary. Is fixed.

b. The population of our town has been stationary for a decade.

The population the people live in one country of our town has been fixed for 10 years so decade means ten years.

Do you remember these words? I hope so.

c. Caught in the middle of traffic, the frightened pedestrian remained stationary in the busy streets.

And the essential word here is pedestrian which means a walker a person who travels regularly from home to work home from work to home.

So that’s it. We learnt twelve essential words I hope you have learned them.
