Lesson 34

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number 34 of five-four absolutely essential words.

Like every lesson I’m going to introduce twelve essential words.

Guys do not forget to make examples Sentences with these words if you want to understand them more if you want to make them more clear in your mind and do not forget to send me your examples stories. I will be always there to correct your examples.

So let’s start with the first word of Lesson number thirty four.

The first word is candidate, candidate.

As you can see in this picture candidate means a person who is proposed for some office or honor.

That’s the meaning of candidate.

a. We can have a maximum of four candidates for the office of president.

The essential word here as you can see is maximum which means more than half or most of or at most.

b. Each candidate for mayor seemed confident he would be victorious.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is confident which means a person who is sure of himself or herself and the next one is victorious which means the winner or the person who wins.

c. Derek Jeter is a candidate for baseball’s Hall of Fame.

So that was the first word of lesson number thirty four of absolutely essential words.

Lesson number two is precede, precede means goal before; Come before; be higher in rank or importance.

So that’s the meaning of precede.

We use precede as a verb most of the times.

a. Lyndon Johnson preceded Richard Nixon as president. Which means this president comes before the next president.

b. In a gallant gesture, Ronnie allowed Amanda’s name to precede his in the program listening. in the program listing.

So we have one essential word and that’s gallant.

We studied this words and the previous lessons which means brave and courageous.

c. A prominent speaker preceded the ceremony of the granting of the diplomas.

And the essential word in this part is a prominent which means a person who is famous a person who is well-known and popular.

This is the second word precede.

The next essential the words adolescent.

As you can see in this picture we have three adolescents. Adolescence means growing up to the method, to the manhood or womanhood we can say youthful; a person from about thirteen to twenty two years old of age.

That’s the real and that’s the correct meaning of adolescent means a young person which is about thirteen to twenty two years of age.

In his adolescent years, the candidate claimed he had undergone many hardships.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is candidate which means a person who is chosen for a spatial position.

As we studied this word in the first part of this lesson and the next one is hardship which means difficulties.

Guys don’t forget to come back to those lessons the previous lessons.

If you think you cannot remember and if you think you don’t know the meaning of these words so that these words have been taught in the previous lessons.

b. There is a fiction abroad that every adolescent is opposed to its tradition.

So we have three essential words in this sentence.

Fiction which means something that is not real.

The story that is not real. Abroad means outside your country and traditions are beliefs that are handed down from one tradition from one generation to another one.

c. Our annual Rock Festival attracts thousands of adolescents.

The essential word here is attract which means actually to draw to draw somebody.

So the next essential word is coeducational, coeducational. Coeducational as you can see this class is coeducational in this picture.

Coeducational means having to do with educating both sexes in the same school.

That’s the meaning of coeducational.

a. There has been a massive shift to coeducational schools.

The essential word here is massive which means something that is very big and huge.

b. coeducational institutions, once thought to have a disruptive effect have been found to be beneficial.

We have actually one essential word here and that is beneficial which means something that is beneficial is profitable. It brings profit for you.

c. In choosing a college, Ned who leans towards schools that are coeducational.

So coeducational means having to do with educating both sexes in the same school.

In many Asian countries they are against coeducational schools and they don’t want to have boys and girls in this same school.

And that is actually a big tragedy.

Radical. Radical means going to the root; fundamental; extreme or a person with extreme opinions.

That’s the meaning of radical.

a. The tendency to be vicious and cruel is a radical fault.

Exactly it’s a fundamental fault. It comes back to the root. And the essential words here our tendency which means willing to do something and a vicious means cruel and actually Savage.

b. We observe that the Internet is the interest in radical views is beginning to subside.

Subside means beginning to reduce and listen or come down.

Because Richard was a radical, The Conservative Party would not accept him as a candidate. That’s it.

That’s an essential word of this part and this is very essential word.

Spontaneous. Spontaneous means of one’s own free will; natural spontaneous means on the spur of the moment.

Spontaneous means something without rehearsal without getting ready.

When you do something naturally without getting ready for that you do it spontaneously.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. The vast crowd burst into spontaneous cheering at the skillful play.

The essential word here is vast which means something that is very big and bulky.

b. Be cautious with these oily rags because they can break out in spontaneous flame.

And the essential word here is cautious which means careful be cautious means be careful.

c. William’s spontaneous resentment at the mention of his sister was noted by the observer teacher.

So guys we have two essential words in the sentence.

The first one is a resentment which means feel anger.

And the second one is observant which means a person who is very careful and to watchful.

The next essential word is skim. Skim means remove from the top; move lightly over or glide along or the other meaning of skim knee means to read hastily or carelessly to read something in a very careless and hasty way.

As you can see in this picture the guy is skimming on this actually on these waves.

Let’s use this verb.

This is actually a verb different examples.

a. This soup will be more nourishing if you skim off the fat. Nourishing is something that has a lot of white lemons and a lot of proteins.

b. I caught a glimpse of Mark and marge skimming over the ice.

And the essential word here is a glimpse. Glimpse means taking a very short quick look.

c. Detective Corby, assigned to the homicide, was skimming through the victim’s book of addresses.

So we have two essential words here actually homicide.

Homicide means killing a killing one person homicide to kill one person actually we can use it as a verb and as a noun. We have studied these words in previous lessons.

So if you don’t know them come back to the previous lessons please.

The next word is vaccinate. And this is a verb and the noun is a vaccination.

As you can see the doctor in this picture is vaccinating the child. So vaccinate means inoculate with vaccine as a protection against smallpox and other diseases. Vaccinate.

a. There has been a radical decline in polio since doctors began to vaccinate children with the Salk vaccine.

And the essential word here is radical which means fundamental I think we studied this word radical in previous lesson.

b. The general pollution sorry the general population has been accepted the need to vaccinate children against once dreaded disease.

And the dreaded which means something that people are afraid of, dread to be afraid of doing something. We can use it as a verb and as an as an adjective.

c. Numerous examples persist of people who have neglected to have their infant vaccinated.

So we have four great essential words and the sentence. The first one is numerous which means many. persist to continue for a very long time.

Neglect means to pay little or no attention to somebody and actually that’s it.

Yes very good. Very nice word.

The next essential word is untidy. As you can see in this picture the man is untidy. Untidy means not neat; nothing order. Untidy.

a. The Bachelor’s Quarters were most untidy.

Two essential words here Bachelor the first actually in the first lesson of five-four we have this word.

Can you remember the meaning of bachelor? Bachelor means a person who is single and unmarried.

And quarters means place so we can say in a different way the single persons place was completely untidy maybe not very neat.

b. We must start a cleanup campaign to keep the campus from being so untidy.

And the essential word here is campus which means a ground of college school or university.

c. Finding the house in such an untidy condition baffled us. Exactly.

And the essential word here is baffled.

Which means to confuse somebody. confused us. so baffle means confuse somebody.

So this is an essential word of this part baffled and untidy.

The next word is utensil, utensil. Utensil is container or tool use for practical purposes specially we use them in kitchens.

As you can see we have utensil here the tools we use them for particular purposes.

a. Several utensils were untidily tossed about the kitchen.

b. Edward’s baggage contained all the utensils he would need on a camping trip.

And the essential word here is baggage which means boxes or suitcases we use them when we travel to other countries or other places.

c. Some people are so old fashioned that they reject the use of any modern utensil.

And the essential word here is reject which means to ignore or we can’t say deny something.

The next essential word is sensitive.

I think most of you guys know the meaning of sensitive.

This is a very common word. Sensitive means of receiving impressions are readily; easily affected or influence; easily hurt or offended.

I think most of the men and women in this world are very sensitive.

They said when you fall in love you become very sensitive.

Let’s use this adjective in different examples.

a. The eye is sensitive to lights.

Exactly.

b. From the experiment we may conclude that mercury is a thermometer Mercury in a thermometer is sensitive to changes in temperature.

Maybe yes.

That’s a very good sentence.

c. James is sensitive about his wretched handwriting.

Wretched handwriting is a terrible handwriting.

That’s a very nice word.

Temperate, temperate. Temperate means not very hot and not very cold something that is moderate, temperate.

a. The United States is mostly in the North Temperate Zone.

b. All students received the appeal to be temperate and not to jump to conclusions in judging the new grading system.

So the essential word here is appeal. Very nice words which means what does it mean.

Do you know? appeal means a request.

Yes means request.

c. Mrs. Rollins commended her class for their temperate attitude when she announced the extra assignment.

So we have one essential word here and that is commended.

Which means to Praise or admire somebody.

Yes. Praise or admire somebody.

So these were the twelve most essential words of this lesson.
