Lesson 33

Hello everybody. welcome to lesson number thirty three of final four absolutely essential words.

Like every lesson we studied before we’re going to learn twelve essential words in this lesson and we’re goanna use them in different examples in different context and I’m here to clarify everything for you.

So there is no doubt any if you have any questions you can ask me at the end.

So let’s start with the first words of this lesson.

The first word these volunteer. Volunteer is a verb and noun.

Volunteer means a person who enters any service of his or her own will.

So or we can use it to offer one services. As I told you before we can use it as a verb and as a noun.

But let’s use this verb and noun in different examples.

a. The draft has been abolished and replaced by a volunteer army.

And the essential word in this party is abolished.

We have studied the word abolish and different and in previous lessons.

Can you remember the meaning of abolish? actually abolished means forbids or banned.

b. Terry didn’t hesitate to volunteer for the most difficult jobs.

So the essential word here is hesitate which means actually when you hesitate, you fail to act very quickly.

c. The boys were reluctant to volunteer their services to help clean up after the dance.

And the essential word here is a reluctant. Reluctant means a person who is not willing to do something. a person who is not interested in doing something.

So this is the first words of lesson number thirty three, volunteer.

Next essential word is prejudice, prejudice. Prejudice is a noun and adjective. Prejudice means an opinion forum without taking time and care to judge fairly or we can say to harm or injure a person.

This is the second meaning of prejudice, prejudice.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. Prejudice against minority groups will linger on as long as people ignore the facts.

We have three essential words here.

The first one is minority which means less than half the next one is linger which means to continue and that last one is ignore which means to pay no attention to a person or somebody or something.

b. Eliminating prejudice should be among the first concerns of a democracy.

And the essential words here is eliminate which means to remove something to emit something.

c. The witness’s weird behavior prejudiced and Nancy’s case.

So prejudice here means to harm or injure.

And the essential word is weird. Can you remember the meaning of weird? weird is something that is not normal something that is strange.

The next essential word is shrill. As you can see this girl in this picture is shrieking.

So shrill means having a high pitch; high and sharp and sound or piercing.

We can use this as a verb and as a noun.

a. Despite their small size, crickets make very shrill noises. make very loud noises.

And the word despite here means in spite of.

b. The shrill whistle of the policeman was warning enough for the fugitive to stop in his tracks.

And the essential word here is fugitive which means a person who is running away from a place.

c. A shrill torrent of insults poured from the mouth of the shrieking woman.

We have two essential words here the first one is torment.

Sorry Torrente. Torrente is when we speak about flawed is it the best synonym for Torrente is flawed and the next one is shrieking which means shouting.

That’s it.

The next essential word is jolly very nice.

I love this actually adjective. Jolly.

We can use it as an adjective and as a noun. But most of the time we use it as a noun.

As you can see in this picture this guy is jolly. Jolly means actually merry and full of fun or we can say a person who is happy. Yes happy.

a. The jolly old man, the happy old man and admitted bigamist had forgotten to mention his first wife to his new spouse.

So as you can see guys we have two essential words here.

The first one is bigamist which means a person who is married to two wives the person who has two wives or two husbands and the next one is spouse which means a husband and a wife.

And as you guys can remember we have studied these words in previous lessons.

b. When the jolly laughter subsided the pirates began the serious business of dividing the gold.

And the essential word here subside which means to reduce or to come down

c. Are you aware that a red-suited gentleman with a jolly twinkle in his eyes is stuck that chimney?

Oh that’s very funny.

And are you aware?

Do you know the meaning of aware?

This is an essential word of this sentence.

Aware means informed.

Are you aware? Do you have information? Are you informed?

Let’s jump to the next word.

The next word is a witty. As you can see in this picture of the guys witty. witty means cleverly amusing.

A person who is cleverly amusing and that’s an adjective.

Let’s use it in different examples.

a. Mr. Carlson’s witty introduction qualifies him as a first rate Speaker.

OK. So qualifies is an essential word here which means to become Fit.

b. Fay is too slow to appreciate such witty remarks

c. The lawyer tried to prosecute the case by being witty and thereby entertaining the jury.

So prosecute means actually to follow to bring somebody to the court and we have studied this word in previous lessons.

So witty a person who is cleverly amusing.

The next essential word is hinder. Hinder means actually to hold back; Make hard to do. Make hard to do. So we use this as a verb Most of the times but let’s use it in different examples.

a. Deep mud hindered which means actually made it difficult for us. Deep mud hinders travel in urban centers.

Urban is something that is related to the cities.

b. The storm hindered the pursuit of the fleeing prisoners.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is pursuit which means to follow somebody and the next one is flee which means running away.

c. Mona’s gloomy nature hinders her relationships with the people.

so gloomy and essential word here is gloomy which means dark and depressing

Lecture, lecture. As you can see in this picture of the guys giving a lecture. Lecture is a speech or a planned talk a scolding actually to scold.

So it has two meanings.

One of the meaning of lecture means to give a lecture to give a talk. And the next one is means to scold.

Let’s use it in different examples as a verb and as a noun.

a. Rarely have I heard a lecture with such clear illustrations.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is rarely which means hardly ever.

And the next one is illustrations which means explanations.

b. Henry’s father lectured him on the awesome perils of the draw addiction.

So we have two essential words here.

Three Essential words. Awesome which means terrible. Peril means dangers and addiction means something that you cannot break and habit that you cannot break.

c. That famous journalist delivered a lecture on prejudice in the press.

And the essential word to is generalists.

Sorry journalists which means a person who studies Rees and edits the newspaper or we can call him a newspaper man.

Abuse, abuse. Abuse means make bad the use of somebody or something.

Use wrongly; treat badly; scold very severely; bad or wrong use or bad treatment. abuse.

We use it as a verb most of the times. so abuse means to make a bad use of something.

a. Those who abuse the privileges of the honor system will be penalized.

They will be punished. So penalized means polished. Yes.

b. The editor which means the person who edits something the editor apologized, apologized means to say sorry. Apologize for the abuse we had suffered as a result of his article.

c. Brutal abuse of children in the orphanage was disclosed by the investigation.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is a brutal which means cruel.

And the next one is disclose which means to reveal something.

Yes that’s it. To reveal something.

The next essential word is mumble. Mumble means to speak indistinctly; speak in a very un-understandable way in distinctly to. speak in a very bad way that people cannot understand you.

a. Ricky mumbled his awkward apology.

We have two essential words here is awkward which means terrible.

An apology means saying that you are sorry.

b. This speech course will encourage you to stop mumbling and to speak more distinctly.

And the essential word here is encourage which means to energize you to actually give you the energy to do something. Give you the courage and the bravery to do something.

c. When a witness continued to mumble, the judge asked him to speak up.

Yes mumble a very nice words.

The next word is mute and most of you guys know the meaning off for you.

Which means silent and unable to hear or speak.

a. They usually defiant child stood mute before the principal.

So defiant child is the child that is guilty and offender.

b. People are no longer willing to remain mute remain silent on the subject of abuse of gun control.

And the essential word here is abuse which means to make a bad use of something.

c. The horror of the famine left the inhabitants of the land mute with their torrid tragic memories.

We have three essential words here.

The first one is famine which means the lack of food. Inhabitants which means the people who are leaving spatial place and the last one is tragic memories which means a terrible bad memories.

Next word is wad.

Yes wad. Wad means small; soft mass; to roll or crash into a small mass.

We can use it as a verb and as noun. You can see a wad of dollars here.

a. To decrease the effects of pressure, the diver put the wilds of cotton in his ears.

Decreases is essential word of this part which means to reduce Decreases.

c. The officer challenged George to explain the wad of fifty dollars which he had in his pocket.

And c. because of the automatic firing mechanism was defective, The Hunter had to wed the powder the powder sorry into the gun by hand.

And the essential word here is defective which means something that has errors and mistakes and not working very well.

The next essential word is retain. Retain means keep; remember; employ by payment of a fee. Retain.

a. Despite her lack of funds Mrs. Reilly retained a detective to follow her spouse.

We have three essential words here is despite which means in spite of next one is detective which means a person who would take search and find something and the last one is spouse which means find actually wife or husband.

And we have studied these words in previous lessons.

b. China dishes have the unique quality of retaining heat longer than metal pans.

And the essential words here are unique which means individual quality which means actual when you speak about the goodness of something we speak about the quality.

c. Like the majority of people, I can retain the tune but not the words of a song.

So majority means most of the people and we have studied this word in previous lessons.
