Lesson 21

Hello my dear friends. Welcome to lesson number twenty one of five-four absolutely essential words.

In this lesson like all other lessons we’re going to learn twelve essential and important words.

We’re goanna use them in different examples and we’re going to give you different actually concepts and clarifications.

So are you ready? Let’s start with the first word.

To the first word of this lesson is plea, plea. Plea means request; appeal that which is asked for another. Plea.

Plea is a noun here and we sometimes we can use it as a verb. But let’s understand how to use this word in different examples.

a. The employees turned in a plea to their boss for higher pay.

And the essential word here is employees which means people or clerics that work in the office they work for payment and for money.

b. The president’s plea which means the president’s requests the president’s pleas to release the captives was denied by the enemy.

And the essential word here is captives which means prisoners people who are prison somewhere.

c. In court today, the judge consented to the lawyer’s plea for a higher sentence.

Very nice example and a very nice sentence and the essential word here in this sentence is consented.

Can you remember the meaning of consent?

Consent means to agree with somebody.

So the judge agreed to the lawyer’s request for a higher sentence.

Very nice words.

And this is the first essential word of lesson number 21.

Word number two is weary, weary. Weary means tired exhausted. as you can see in this picture the girl leaves a weary and she’s very sad.

a. I am weary of debating the same topic all day.

So I am exhausted and tired of discussing and debating the same subject all day.

So we have two essential words here.

The first one is a debate which means to discuss something and the next one is topic which means a subject

b. The farmer grew weary of bringing in the harvest every year for the past forty summer.

That’s a very nice example and the essential word here in this example is harvest which means picking up the fruits picking up the crops in one field, harvest.

c. Let me a rest my weary bones here before the match commences.

Commences means starts and this is another essential word.

We studied this word in previous lessons. So weary means tired, tired.

The next word is Collide. Collide is a verb and the noun is collision. collide means come together with. force come together with force.

Let’s use this word this verb in three great examples.

a. When the two autos collided the people in the fragile smaller car perished.

So we have two essential words here the first one is fragile which means something that is easily broken.

The next one is perish which means to die.

So let’s read it in a different way.

When the two cars come together with force the people in the actually easily broken car died.

b. Committees are exploring ways of keeping cars from colliding.

The essential word here is explore which means to probe or search something.

c. In my estimate the two bicycles collided at five o’clock.

So the essential Word here is estimate which means guess.

So you might guess that two by bicycles collided or come together with force at five o’clock.

That’s an essential word of this part collide.

The next word is confirm, confirm. confirm is a verb and the noun is confirmation.

Confirm is to prove to be true or correct or we can say makes certain. Confirm.

a. The way Victor talked back to his mother confirmed that he was defiant.

He was defiant.

b. A probe of criminal’s background confirmed that he had been in jail numerous times.

We have two essential words in this sentence. The first one is a probe which means research.

The next essential word is numerous times. numerous means many many many times.

That’s it.

And as I told you before these words with stars are essential words and we have studied these words in previous lessons.

And if you don’t know them I suggest you to come back and actually study the previous lessons.

c. Years of research confirmed the theory that smoking is harmful.

So this is a great word to confirm.

Next word is verify. Verify means to prove to be true or confirm.

So the previous words confirm and verify are completely two synonyms and they are completely the same. Verify.

a. A “Yes Man” is an employee who will verify everything the boss says.

b. I was there as a witness to verify the charges against the bus driver.

c. The data I turned in where verified by the clerks in our office.

And the essential word here is data. As you guys can remember we study this word in the first lesson of actually five-four.

So data is knowledge and information. Verify.

Anticipate, anticipate. Anticipate means look forward to or expect something. anticipate.

This is a very nice and essential word.

a. We anticipate a panic if the news is revealed to the public.

So as you can see we have two essential words in this sentence the first one is panic which means fear, great fear.

And the next one is revealed which means to make something visible, to make something public.

so everybody can understand what’s happening.

b. Harriet anticipated the approach of mailman with fright.

c. With his weird powers Lonnie was able to anticipate the ringing of the telephone.

So the essential word here raise weird.

Can you remember the meaning of weird? Actually weird means something that is strange and not normal. weird.

OK, let’s jump to the next words. The next one is dilemma, dilemma.

As you can see in this picture it is a kind of dilemma. So dilemma means situation requiring a choice between two evils; a difficult choice.

So I think the best synonym for dilemma is a difficult choice, difficult choice.

a. It is sensible not to panic in the face of a dilemma.

As I told you before panic means great fear.

Lottie faced the dilemma of whether to approve of the operation or not.

She had a difficult choice. Right. It was a dilemma.

v. In the lady or the tiger, the hero had the dilemma of which door to open. The lady or the tiger I think it’s the name of the story or the book.

I cannot remember. this is one of the most essential words, dilemma.

And guys do not forget the meaning of this word.

It means a difficult choice and I have seen this word in different texts and different actually movies.

The next word is Detour, detour.

There is a great connection between this actually picture and the word detour. Detour means a roundabout way: in a roundabout way or we can say a shortcut a very short way that sometimes we take in order to reach our destinations faster.

a. Pop was uneasy about taking the detour in this strange town.

The essential word here is uneasy which means can you remember the meaning uneasy?

Uneasy means a person who is not comfortable and the person who is cannot call or we can say sad.

b. In order to evade city traffic Anthony took a detour.

So the essential words here is evade. Evade means to get away from something through trickery.

c. the detour took us ten miles off our course.

So detour means a short way or a roundabout way that can reach your destinations faster.

And we use the take we always a take a detour.

Merits, merits. Merit means goodness; worth; value.

This is the meaning of merit.

Merit is a noun we use it as a noun most of the times.

a. There is little merit in lying to those you love.

There is a little goodness and it’s not worth actually.

b. My brother was promoted because of merits, not because of friendship.

c. I can see any merits in your proposal.

Three nice clear examples to understand the meaning of merit.

You can also make examples with these words in order to understand them more actually to get more clarification.

The next word is transmit, transmit. Transmit means send over; Pass on; pass along or let through. transmit.

As you can see in this picture actually they are trying to transmit the electricity from one city to another one.

a. Garcia’s message was transmitted to the appropriate people.

Appropriate people here means the right people. The appropriate ones.

b. Scientists can now transmit messages from space vessels to earth.

And the essential word here is vessels.

Vessel means ship right? Ship.

c. Our local radio station doesn’t transmit broadcast after midnight. Transmits.

The next essential word is relieve.

I guess as you can see in this picture the woman she smokes in order to relieve herself.

So relieved means to make less; make easier or reduce the pain of or replace; release free when you want to decrease the pain you actually relieve.

Use the word relieve.

Let’s use this word. This is the verb and let’s use it in different examples.

a. The pills relieved the pain from the wound I received in the conflict.

The essential word here is conflict which means an angry discussion or argument between two persons.

b. A majority of the population wanted to relieve the mayor of his duty.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is majority which means most of and the next essential word is population which means the number of people that live in one country or one city.

c. The peace agreement relieved us of the threat of an attack.

And the essential word here is threats which means actually menace or danger.

So this is an essential word of this part relieve which means to reduce the pain.

Next one is baffled, baffled. Baffled means be too hard to understand or solve.

There is another synonym for baffled which is confused.

A person who is baffled is confused and it’s very hard for him to understand or solve something.

a. How so mediocre a player earned so much money baffled me confused me.

And the essential word in this part is mediocre which means a person who is not neither good nor bad. a person is normal in something

a. The topic of relativity is baffling one.

Yes the subject of relativity is baffling and confusing one.

c. Sherlock Holmes would undoubtedly have been baffled by the way the crime was committed.

So the essential word in this part is undoubtedly which means unquestionably or we can say certainly.
