Lesson 17

Hello everybody.

How are you doing?

Welcome to lesson seventeen of Five-four absolutely essential words. like always we’re goanna teach you twelve essential words in this lesson.

We’re going to show you some pictures. We’re going to use all of these words in different contexts and different actually sentences.

As in order to help you understand them very easily and very clearly.

So I’m ready guys. Are you ready?

Let’s get started.

Word number one is appeal, appeal. Appeal means attraction; interest or we can use it as a verb sometimes to urge; to request somebody strongly to do something.

So as you can see in this picture, I guess the coach has appealed the players which means has urged the players.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. Anything Jorge could get at wholesale price had a great appeal for him.

So appeal here means attraction or interest.

The essential word in this actually sentence is wholesale. We studied this word in previous lessons.

Can you remember the meaning of wholesale? Wholesale means selling something in large quantities.

b. My boss always appeals to his employees to work swiftly and neatly.

So he appeal here is a verb which means to urge somebody. Then the essential word here is employees which means workers or clerics that work for payments.

c. I found her clothing designs to be enormously appealing.

Which means attractive, appealing.

Yes. And the essential word here is enormous which means large; massive, huge.

As you can remember we studied this word in previous lessons.

So this is the first word and the essential word of Lesson Number 17.

So let’s start and learn the next word.

The next word is addict, addict.

And the verb is addicted actually. I think this guy in this picture he’s a chess addict. He loves to play chess.

So addict means one who cannot break away from a habit or practice.

a. Because he was a heroin addict, it was essential for Carlos to get the drug each day.

And the essential word here I can explain for you is essential which means very very important.

b. Marcia became flabby because she was addicted to ice cream sodas.

Yes she became flabby. Can you remember the meaning of flabby? Flabby here means weak, a person who is not strong. Flabby.

c. Those who take aspirins and other painkillers regularly should realize that they may become drug addicts too.

Exactly.

And that’s it.

That’s very essential word addict, addict.

The next word is wary, wary. Wary means one’s guard against danger or trickery or we can say to be cautious.

I think the burst the best synonym for wary means cautious or we can say to be very careful about something. Yes.

a. Marilyn’s mother told her to be wary of strangers.

Yes she should be very wary and cautious.

b. After Orlando had been the victim of a cheat, He was wary of those who said they wanted to help him.

Yes he was very cautious. He was very careful

c. Living in a polluted city makes you wary of the air you breathe.

Yes it makes you very cautious of the air you breathe and the essential word here is pollute.

Can you remember the meaning of pollute? pollute means to make something dirty.

Yes. Wary very nice word.

The next word is aware, aware. Aware means knowing and realizing.

a. Donna was aware of her tendency to exaggerate.

Yes we have two essential words in this sentence.

The first one is tendency which means willing to do something or interest and the next one is exaggerate.

Which means to make something bigger than it is, to magnify about something exaggerate.

We studied these words in previous lessons.

b. It was some time before the police became aware of the brawl that was taking place on the streets.

So the essential word here in this sentence is brawl which means a noisy fights. Yes a noisy fights.

c. One way to gain knowledge is to be aware of everything around you.

Exactly. Knowledge. Knowledge is information and data, knowledge.

So the essential words in this part is aware, knowing; realizing and understanding something.

The next word is misfortune. misfortune is actually a very essential word.

A very nice word which means a bad luck. Misfortune, misfortune is a noun.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. It was my misfortune that our car wasn’t thoroughly actually checked before the trip through the desert.

The essential word here is thoroughly which means can you remember the meaning of thoroughly?

Come on guys think. Thoroughly means completely exactly thoroughly means completely.

b. Being bitten by the vicious dog was quite a misfortune for Tommy.

Oh my God. Yes. That’s a quite misfortune.

So we have an essential word here and that’s vicious, vicious dog. Vicious means wild cruel and violent. Yes.

c. I have the misfortune of working for a greedy man.

Oh that’s a complete misfortune.

The essential word here is greedy which means a person who is very stingy with his money. A person who doesn’t like to spend money at all, greedy.

Avoid, avoid. Avoid means keeping away from or keep out of the way of actually something, avoid.

So when you avoid something you should keep away from or stay away from.

a. If you are fortunate you can avoid people who are trying to deceive you.

Exactly.

So we have two essential words here the first one is fortunate and we started this word just minutes ago.

Fortunate means bad luck and deceive is another essential word in this sentence.

Which means to trick somebody. To trick somebody; to fool somebody, yes.

b. There was no way to avoid noticing her beautiful green eyes.

That’s a very good sentence.

c. Avoiding getting into a brawl if you can.

Yes. Avoid getting into the brawl if you can.

The essential word here is brawl which means a noisy flight.

Yes this word has been repeated many times in this in different lessons actually.

We repeat these words in different sentences and different examples in order to make you understand them.

And in order to make you remember them for a very long time.

Yes.

The next word is wretched.

Wretched means very unsatisfactory and miserable.

Wretched is actually in adjective.

This is an adjective.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. I feel a wretched which means I feel very miserable after a night when I’ve scarcely slept.

The essential words here is scarcely which means very hardly. Yes that’s a really bad feeling.

b. There was unanimous agreement that we had seen a wretched movie.

There was a unanimous agreement.

Actually the essential word here is unanimous which means a complete agreement. So unanimous agreement means a complete agreement and everybody agrees.

c. Toby had wretched luck at the gambling tables.

Yes. He had a really bad lock wretched Luck.

That’s a very essential word. Remember two guys’ wretched.

The next word is keg, keg. keg a small barrel, usually holding less than ten gallons, keg.

You can see the picture of kegs here.

a. The corner Saloon uses numerous kegs of beer on a Saturday night.

So the essential word here is numerous which means many. So numerous kicks means many barrels, many small barrels.

b. Get a keg of nails the carpenter shouted at me.

c. It’s obvious to me that the situation is filled with peril in the real powder keg if I ever saw one.

Actually there is an essential word to essential words here in this sentence.

The first one is obvious it is obvious which means it is clear something that is easy to see.

And the next one is peril which means danger, peril. Peril is danger. That’s a very nice word.

Nourish, nourish. Nourish means to make or keep alive and well with food and we can say feed or develop an attitude.

So we use this word as a verb in different contexts which means to feed somebody.

Let me give you some examples to make you understand it more.

a. A diet of nourishing food actually the adjective of nourish is nourishing. A diet of the wishing food is served to every hospital patients.

b. It was easy to detect that the skinny boy was not well nourished.

The essential word here is detect which means to find or to understand something.

c. After the operation our doctor plans to know reached my mother with vitamins and good foods.

Very good sentence. Nourish, nourish.

Harsh, harsh. Harsh means rough to the torch, taste, eye or ear we can say sharp, harsh.

a. The law is harsh on people who go around menacing others.

Yes the law is very sharp on people who go menacing others.

Can you remember the meaning of menacing menace?

We studied this words in previous lessons.

Menace means to threat somebody. Yes to threat somebody.

b. looking at his cigarettes Phil realize it was absurd to inhale such harsh smoke.

And the essential word here is absurd which means meaningless or something that these bullshit absurd

c. hazel alterded Her tone of voice from a harsh one to a soft one.

That’s a very good decision.

Actually there is an essential word here again and that is alter which means to change something.

Yes alter means change.

Quantity, quantity. Quantity means amount, amount.

a.I never neglect to carry a small quantity of money with me.

So neglect is a verb and essential word here in this sentence which means to give new attention to somebody.

The next sentence is

b. who believes that quantity is better than quality?

Yes we know that quality is better than quantity. And this is my model.

c. A large quantity of meat is always stored in our freezer.

Quantity not quality.

Opt. Opt. the last word of this lesson. Lesson number 17 which means to choose or favor or select.

So opt means choose or select and it’s a verb. The noun is option and everybody knows this word. Opt is a verb of option.

a. If you give me an ice cream choice, I’ll opt for chocolates.

Opt comes with a proposition for or which means to select something.

b. our cheerleaders plan to opt for a new sweaters.

c. On Friday three of my buddies will opt to go into the navy.

So that’s it. We studied and we learned actually twelve essential words.

Try to understand these words, try to make examples with these words and you can always send me your examples.
