Lesson 15

Hello my dear friends. How are you doing?

Welcome to lesson number 15 of five- four absolutely essential words.

As you can understand as you know we are going to understand we are going to learn twelve essential words and we’re going to use these words each in three examples and we are going to learn some other words inside those examples some other essential words.

So are you ready to increase your vocabularies? if yes let’s get started.

Let’s start with the first words of lesson number 15 and that’s expand, expand.

Expand means increase in size; enlarge; swell. Three great actually synonyms increase in size, enlarge or we can say swell.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. We will expand our business as soon as we locate a new building. We will enlarge our business.

b. Present laws against people who pollute the air must be expanded.

That’s right. There is an essential word here and that is pollute which means to make something dirty.

c. Expanding the comic strips, the editor hoped that more people would buy his paper.

So the essential word here is editor which means to edit or to fix or to repair to change something in order to improve it, to make it better. Editor.

So the essential word of this lesson the first word is expand. a very nice one.

The next word is alter. Alter means to make different; change; vary.

As you can see in this picture I think the guy’s trying to alter his car which means to change his car. so Alter is a verb.

a. I altered my typical lunch and had a steak instead. so I altered my typical lunch.

Typical is an essential words in this sentence which means something that is usual is typical.

b. Dorothy agreed to alter my dress if I would reveal its cost to her.

So she decided to change her dress. so the essential word here is reveal, reveal.

We studied this word in previous lessons and the meaning of revealing is to make something known to show something or to make something public, reveal.

c. It’s absurd to spend money to alter that old candy store.

That’s right.

I agree with this sentence. so absurd.

The essential word here is absurd which means something that is meaningless and bullshit. It’s absurd.

The next essential word is mature, mature. Mature means a ripe fully grown or developed.

Something that is fully developed.

a. I could tell that Mitch was mature from the way he persisted in his work.

Persisted an essential word in this sentence which means to continue firmly, persist.

b. Only through mature study habits can a person hope to gain knowledge.

Knowledge, information or we can say data.

And last example says:

c. It is essential that you behave in a mature way in the business world.

So the essential word here is essential itself which means very important.

Yes. Mature or mature.

The next essential word is sacred.

I love this word. Sacred. Sacred means worthy of respect and holy.

a. Her sacred metal had to be sold because the family was in urgent need of money.

The essential word here is urgent which means something that should be act against very quickly. Something that is very necessary, urgent.

b. It was revealed by the journalist that the sacred temple had been torn down had been destroyed.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is reveal means to make something known as I told you before and the next one is journalist means a person who studies newspapers.

c. Kate made a sacred promise to her parents never to miss a Sunday church service.

That’s great promise. so sacred means something that is holy and worthy of respect.

The next word is revise, revise.

Very nice words revised means to change alter. Bring us up to date.

So as you can see revise is a synonym for the word altar that we studied like a few minutes ago.

So altar means revise is all the same.

a. My family revised its weekend plans when the weather turned hazy.

Can you guess the meaning of hazy the essential word in this sentence?

We studied this word in previous lessons. Hazy means something that is not clear something that is smoky. Something that is Misty.

b. the dictionary was revised and then published in a more expensive edition

So the actually essential word here is expensive which means costly or something that something of a high price.

Under the revised rulesو Shane was eliminated from competing the essential word here is eliminated which means removed.

So a very nice word. Revise.

The next word is pledge, pledge which means promise, promise.

a. Before the grand jury, the sinister gangster pledged to tell the whole truth.

So we have one essential word here and that is the sinister which means that we could the bad person, the evil person.

b. Monte was reluctant to pledge his loyalty to his new girlfriend.

Oh that’s really bad.

The two essential words here are reluctant which means a person who is not interested in doing something or a person that is unwilling.

And the next word is loyalty which means honesty.

c. Pledged to discovering the fact, the journalist began to dig up new actually evidence for his readers.

So the essential word here is journalist.

As I told you before which means a newspaper man or a person who studies newspaper. Pledge, promise

Casual, casual. Casual means happening by chance not planned or expected or not calling attention to itself.

So to speak about something casual we speak about something that is not planned or expected.

a. As the villain stole the money from the blind man, he walked away in a casual manner.

The essential word here is a villain which means we can’t sinister a bad person.

b. The bartender made a casual remark about the brawl in the backroom.

The essential word here is a brawl which means a noisy fight or a quarrel.

And we studied this words in previous lessons as you can remember.

c. Following a casual meeting on the street, the bachelor renewed his friendship with the widow.

So the essential word here is Bachelor which means a single old person. Bachelor. Very nice word. Casual.

Next word is pursue, pursue. Pursue means to follow. Proceed along.

So the best and an for the word pursue means follow.

As you can see in this picture the bees trying to follow the other insects which looks like a violent person.

a. We pursued the bicycle thief until he vanished from our vision.

We have two essential words here the first one is vanish which means disappear and the next one is vision which means the power of seeing or the power of sight.

b. Ernie rowed up the river pursuing it to its source.

c. The senior wanted to pursue urban affairs as his life’s work.

So the essential word here is urban.

When we speak about urban we speak about something that is related to cities and the opposite of this word is rural.

so rural and urban are actually antonyms.

The next word is unanimous which means in complete agreement.

This is one of the most essential words that I have seen this word in different takes in different places in different resources.

Guys try to understand this word.

a. The class was unanimous which means it wasn’t complete agreement in wanting to eliminate this study halls.

The essential word here is eliminate which means to remove or to delete something and actually we started this word in previous lessons.

The next example:

b. There has never been an election in our union that was won by a unanimous vote.

c. The Senate, by a unanimous vote, decided to decrease taxes.

Good for him. So the essential word in this sentence is decrease which means to reduce or to bring down something or weaks.

We can say to less in something. Unanimous, unanimous.

The next word is fortunate, fortunate.

I think this guy is very fortunate because he has won the competition.

So fortunate beings having good luck or we can say lucky. I guess the best synonym for fortunate is lucky.

a. Wesley was fortunate to have an adequate sum of money in the bank.

The essential word here is adequate which means enough, enough.

b. It is fortunate that the famine didn’t affect our village.

The essential word here is famine which means a great hunger.

There are lots of words we are learning in these different examples.

We are trying to review all of these words that we have studied in the previous lessons.

If you do not understand them I suggest you to come back and study them again.

c. The underdog was fortunate enough to come out a winner.

Yes. The essential word here is underdog which means a loser or a person who is expected to lose.

Pioneer. Pioneer is one who goes first or prepares a way for others. Pioneer.

a. My grandfather was a pioneer in selling wholesale products.

Can you remember the meaning of wholesale? Wholesale means selling in large quantities.

Larry something selling something in large quantities.

b. England was a pioneer in building large vessels for tourists.

The essential word here is a vessel which means a ship.

c. In the fourth grade I assembled a picture collection of great American pioneers.

And the essential word in the sentences assembled which means to put something together or gather together.

Pioneer, pioneer.

Innovative, innovative, innovative. As you can see in this picture these people are innovative which means fresh; clever; having new ideas.

So guys when you have new ideas you are innovative.

a. The innovative ads for the computers won many new customers.

b. Everyone in our office praised the boss for his innovative suggestions.

c. Nicole decided to alter her approach and become more innovative.

So she decided to alter which means she decided to change her approach, her method. to become more innovative and clever. Very nice work.

And never.

So that was the last word of this lesson we learned many essential words try to understand them and we’re goanna use all of these words in different actually contexts.

We are going to use all of these words in one great story try to understand this story, try to review the words.
