Lesson 14

Hello everybody. How are you doing?

Welcome to lesson number fourteen of five-four absolutely essential words in this lesson.

We are going to understand twelve essential words and we’re goanna use them in different examples.

And I’m goanna teach you the correct pronunciations and I’m goanna help you understand them in different context.

Are you ready?

Actually I’m ready. Let’s get started.

The first essential word is unruly, unruly. As you can see in this pictures some people unruly.

So unruly means hard to rule or control or something that is lawless or we can say somebody or something that is against the law.

The police people try to punish the people who are unruly.

Example a. Unruly behavior is prohibited at the pool.

Exactly the essential word here is prohibited which means band, band.

b. When he persisted in acting unruly, Ralph was fired from his job.

Oh that’s really bad. The essential word here is persisted which means to continue firmly. persists.

And the last example is

c. His unruly actions were a menace to those who were trying to work.

The essential word here is a menace which means threat.

We have studied these essential words in previous lessons I guess on.

Unruly, somebody who is against the law.

This is the first essential word of five-four.

Let’s jump to the next one.

Rival, rival. As you can see in this picture the guys are rival.

Rival means person who wants and tries to get the same thing as another or one who tries to equal or do better than another.

So that’s call to rival.

a. The boxer devised an attack that would help him to be victorious over his young rival.

That’s perfect. So we have two essential words in this sentence.

The first one is devise which means to create or to plan something and the other essential word is victorious which means the winner, to be the winner.

The next example:

b. Sherry didn’t like to compete because she always thought her rival would win.

The essential word here means to compete, compete means to call somebody for a match or fight. Compete.

c. Seidman and Son decided to migrate to an area where they would have fewer rivals.

Yes. The essential word here is migrate which means to move from one place to another place. Migrate.

The next essential word is of violent, violent.

Can you see any violent?

Actually there is a violent character maybe in this picture. So violent means acting or done with a strong or rough force.

Yes violent.

a. Carefully very carefully, we approach the violent man.

The essential word here his approach.

Can you guess the meaning of approach?

Yes approach means to come near or close to somebody, approach. And we studied this word in previous lessons.

b. Violent behavior is prohibited on the school grounds.

Exactly and the essential word here is prohibited which means band, band.

c. Vernon had a tendency to be violent when someone angered him.

That’s really bad.

So he had a tendency. Tendency is an essential word here. Tendency means they’re willing to do something.

He had a tendency, violent or rough force.

The next word is brutal, brutal. Brutal means coarse and savage like a brute or we can say cruel.

I think the best synonym for the brutal is cruel. Yes that person who has no mercy.

a. Dozens of employees quit the job because the boss was brutal to them.

So brutal to them means he was cruel to them.

And the essential word here is employees. Employees are the people who work for pay. Yes we call them employees.

b. The brutal track coach persisted in making the team work out all morning under the hot sun.

So the essential words here is persist which means to continue firmly.

c. Swearing to catch the murderer, the detectives revealed that it had been an unusually brutal, violent crime.

We have two essential words here.

The first one is a reveal which means to make something known and public and the other one is violent which means something that is actually very cruel and savage. Actually violent and brutal are kind of synonyms too, brutal.

The next word is opponent, opponent. Opponent is a person who is on the other side of a fight or game, or discussion; person fighting, struggling or speaking against another, opponents.

a. The Russian chess player underestimate his opponent and lost.

That’s really bad.

So the essential word here is underestimate, underestimate means to set low value for something or we can see on their value somebody.

b. He was a bitter opponent of costly urban reform.

Urban is essential word here which means something that is related to cities, urban.

c. Seeing his flabby opponent Slugger was sure he would be victorious.

Yes we have two essential words here.

The first one is flabby which means weak. Somebody who is not strong and the next word is victorious which means somebody who is actually the winner of a game Or we can say the winner.

The next word is brawl, brawl. As you can see in this picture, there is a brawl.

But what is the meaning of brawl? Brawl means a noisy quarrel or fights, a noisy quarrel or fights.

Let me give you some examples.

a. The journalist covered all the details of the brawl in the park.

The essential word here is a journalist and we studied this word in the previous lesson.

So journalist is a person who studies reads and edits newspapers books try to improve them.

b. Larry dreaded a brawl with his father over finding a job.

The essential word in this sentence is dread. When you dread doing something you are afraid of doing that.

So dread means to be afraid of doing something.

c. What started out as a polite discussion soon became a violent brawl.

That’s a very interesting sentence and the essential word here is violent which means something that is cruel and actually tough Force. Yes.

Duplicate, duplicate means exact copy or to make an exact copy of repeat exactly. Duplicate here is a verb.

And sometimes we can use it as a noun too.

Let me give you some examples understand this word in different examples.

a. Elliott tried to deceive Mrs. Held by making a duplicate of my paper.

The essential word here is to deceive which means to defraud or fool somebody or to trick somebody.

b. we duplicated the documents so that everyone had a copy to study.

c. The so-called expert did a mediocre job of duplicating the Van Gogh painting.

So we have one essential word in this sentence and that’s mediocre.

Can you remember the meaning of mediocre? When you speak about something that isn’t mediocre, we speak about something that is not very good or not very bad. Average mediocre.

And the next essential word is a vicious. Oh look at this picture.

There is a vicious person here. So vicious means wicked and savage. Vicious.

Liza was unpopular because she was vicious to people she had just met.

So unpopular.

The essential word here is not popular or not famous. people don’t like this guy because he’s unpopular.

b. The vicious editor published false stories about people he disliked.

c. Mr. Voss was reluctant to talk about his vicious Pit bull.

And the essential word here is reluctant which means unwilling to do something, reluctant.

A person who is not interested in doing something vicious. Very nice words.

Whirling, Whirling. As you can see the guy in this picture is Whirling. Whirling means turning or swinging around and around or we can say spinning, Whirling.

Let me give you some examples understand this word in different examples.

a. The space vessel was Whirling around before it landed on Earth.

Can you remember the meaning of vessel which is the essential words of this sentence?

Yes vessel means ship so space vessel means space ship or space craft.

b. As they tried to lift the bulky piano, the movers went Whirling across the living room.

The essential word here is bulky. Bulky mean something that is very very big or huge, bulky.

c. because Angelo drank too much, He commenced to feel that everything was Whirling around the bar.

Yes and we have an essential word here and that is Commence.

Commence means to start or to begin to do something. Very nice word.

The next essential word is underdog.

Underdog, underdog was a person having the worst of any struggle or one who is expected to lose or we can say loser.

Yes we can say loser. loser is a great synonym for underdog.

Let’s put this words in different examples and different context.

a. Minority groups complain about being the underdog in this century.

So we have two essential words here.

The first one is minority which means less than half. the other part is century which means one hundred years.

So we had two essential words in this sentence.

Sentence b. I always feel sorry for the underdog in a street fight.

c. the Jets were identified as underdogs even though they had beaten the Steelers earlier in this season.

So we have an essential word and that’s identify which means to understand something.

To understand actually the identity or the character of a person. Identify.

Thrust, Thrust push with force.

So this is the meaning of thrust means to push something with a lot of force.

But if you don’t understand it, let’s use it in different examples.

a. Once the jet engine was ignited, it thrust the rocket from the ground.

The essential word here means ignite which means to set on fire, ignite.

b. he had adequate strength to thrust himself through the locked door.

So he had adequate, adequate means enough. Remember guys.

Do you remember this word?

We studied this words in previous lessons. Adequate, enough.

c. Eva was in a terrible rage when she thrust herself into the room. she was in a terrible rage.

The essential word of this sentence is rage which means actually violent anger.

And we studied this words in previous lessons.

So she was in terrible anger when she thrust herself against or into the room. That’s perfect.

And the last word of this lesson is bewildered.

This dinosaur is bewildered. Bewildered is confused completely or we can say puzzled, bewildered.

a. The lawyer was bewildered by his client’s lack of interest in the case.

So the essential word here means actually client which means customer and lack means not having enough.

So lack of interest means not enough interest.

The next essential word and sentence sorry his parent’s

b. His partner’s weird actions left Jack bewildered.

So the essential word here is weird which means something that is not normal or when you speak about something that is strange we say that is weird.

c. bewildered by this sudden hazy weather, he decided not to go to the beach.

And the essential word here in this sentence is hazy which means something that is smoky and not clear.

So these guys are twelve essential words and we studied all of them and remember the guys these words are very important and we use them in different contexts in different takes in different passage.
