Lesson 13

Hello my dear friends welcome to listen number 13 of 504 absolutely essential words. In this Lesson im going to introduced twelve essential words and we are going to study all of them. please focus.

Pay attention try to understand the correct pronunciations, the correct words, try to understand how we use the words and correct context.

Let’s get started.

The first word is journalist.

Journalist, as you know. journalist is one who writes for edits, manages or produces a newspaper or magazine.

Journalist, journalist.

Let me give you some examples.

As you can see in this picture there is a journalist and he’s trying to type something.

There were four journalists covering the murder story for journalists.

Barbara’s experience working at bookstore wasn’t adequate preparation for becoming a journalist.

actually there is an essential word in this sentence and that’s adequate, which means enough.

Famine as you can see in this picture there is famine.

The people are very poor.

So famine means starvation and a great shortage, great hunger.

You know in Africa there is a great famine. a. famine in Africa caused the death of one tenth of the population.

The population is an essential word in this sentence, which means the people of one country’s called

Population. Population. there has been a famine of good writing in the last decade. Decade, is an essential word in this sentence, which means ten years.

Yes.

And we studied this word in previous lesson. the rumor of a famine in Europe was purely fiction.

Exactly.

The essential words in this sentence is fiction, which means something that is not real.

The next word is, revive. Revive. Revive, means bring back or come back to life or consciousness.

As you can see there is a guy in this picture.

He’s very sick and he’s trying to revive.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

There is a movement to revive old plays for modern audience.

So they are trying to bring back it to life or consciousness.

The nurses tried to revive the heart attack victim. committees are trying to revive interest in population control.

As I told you before population means that the people who live in one country or one city, we call them

population.

The second word and the essential word of this lesson is revive

the next word is commence. Commence. Commence, means began or start.

This is another actually essential words, commence. graduation will commence at 10:00. we’ll start at 10:00.

Bella hesitated before commencing her speech. she hesitated.

This is an essential word of this, actually sentence. hesitate means fail to act very quickly and we

studied this word in the previous lessons.

the discussion commenced with a report on urban affairs.

An essential word here is, urban. Can you give us the meaning of Urban? Urban is something that is related to city.

Yes. that’s it. Commence. begin or start.

the next essential word is observant. observant.

I think this guy in this picture is very observant.

He doesn’t want to actually pick up the flower.

So observant means quick to notice or watchful or we can say careful. we were observant of the conflict between the husband and his wife.

The essential word in this sentence is conflict which means an angry discussion between two persons.

because Cato was observant, he was able to reveal the thief’s name. the essential word in this sentence

is reveal, which means to make known. to make something public. and the last example milt used his excellent vision to be observant of everything in his vicinity.

Exactly.

So the essential word here is vision which means the power of sight or the power of seeing something.

vision.

The next word is, Identity.

Identity means recognize as being or show to be a certain person or thing or we can say proved to be

the same. identity.

So you can see in this picture of the finger print is your identity.

It shows your identity.

a. numerous witnesses identify to the butcher as the thief.

Yes. the essential word here is, numerous which means many, several. b. Mrs. Shaw was able to identify the painting as being hers. yes

c. with only quick glimpse, Reggie was able to identify his girlfriend in the crowd.

the essential word here is, glimpse which means a very quick look. Glimpse.

the next word is migrate. Migrate.

As you can see in this picture Birds migrate from one place to another place. so migrate means move from one place to another.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

The fruit pickers migrated to wherever they could find work.

They moved to wherever they could find work.

Much of our population is constantly migrating to other areas of the country.

Yes. my grandfather migrated to New York from Italy in 1919. migrate.

Very nice word and the noun of migrate is actually migration.

The next word is vessel. Vessel. as you can see in this picture, there is a very huge vessel moving and sailing in the sea.

So vessel has different meanings. The first meaning of vessel means ship or the other meaning means a hollow container.

And the third meaning is a tube, containing body fluid.

Yes. let me give you some example.

the Girl Scouts where permitted a glimpse of the vessel being built when they toured the Navy Yard.

Yes.

And the essential word in this sentence, is glimpse which means a very quick look.

my father burst a blood vessel when he got the bill from the garage.

Actually there is an expression and there is a very nice idiom here.

When you burst a blood vessel, it means that you become very angry and furious.

Congress voted to decrease the amount of money being spent on space vessels.

Yes.

And the essential word here is decrease, which means to reduce or lessen or bring something down.

Decrease.

the next essential word is persist. persist.

I think the girl in this picture, she persists on eating chocolates. so persist means to continue firmly refused to stop or to be changed. Persist. a. the humid weather persisted all summer. it continued all summer. b. would Lauren’s weird behavior persist, we all wondered.

The essential word here is weird. weird means something that is not normal or strange. weird.

And the last example: c. Lioyd persisted in exaggerating everything he said.

Yes. he continued in exaggerating. exaggerating is the word that we studied in the previous lesson.

Do you know the meaning of exaggerate? exaggerate means to make something bigger than it is. the bigger than it is. you exaggerate or magnify or to make it really big.

The next essential word is, hazy. as you can see in this picture is very hazy. so hazy means something

that is Misty, smoky or unclear. something that is very difficult for you to see, it’s not clear. hazy.

The vicinity of London is known to be hazy.

The essential word is vicinity here, which means the neighborhood. Neighborhood. factories that pollute the air create hazy weather conditions. Exactly. so pollute is essential word here which means to make something dirty. especially when you speak about the air.

although cora had a great memory, she was unusually hazy about the details of our meetings on January 16th.

Yes. she was hazy.

She was not sure about the details.

That’s great words gleam.

This is a very essential word.

gleam is a flash or a beam of light.

As you can see in this picture there is a gleam. a gleam of light shown through the prison window.

The only source of light in the cellar came in the form of gleam through the hole in the

Wall. And the essential word here is source, which means an origin. Yes. region.

My grandmother gets a gleam in her eye when she sees the twins.

Oh that’s very beautiful.

Editor. Editor is the last word of this Lesson. editor. editor is a person who prepares a publication; one who corrects a manuscript and helps to improve it.

So editor means a person who prepares and fix and helps to improve something.

The student was proud to be the editor of the school newspaper.

Meredith’s journalistic knowledge came in handy when she was unexpectedly given the job of editor of the Bulletin.

Yes. that’s very nice and good for her.

It is undeniable that the magazine has gotten better since Ellis became editor.

It is undeniable. the essential word here is undeniable, which means unquestionable and there is no doubt about it.

And It is certain that the magazine has gotten better since Ellison became editor.
