Lesson 11

Hello everybody. How are you doing?

Welcome to lesson number eleven of five four absolutely essential words and this lesson as always we are going to introduce twelve essential words and we are going to understand the definitions.

I’m goanna give you lots of synonyms and we will actually use all of these words in different context and examples.

So let’s start with the first word. The first word is evidence, evidence.

As you can see the picture evidence is something that which makes clear the truth or falsehood of something, evidence. Evidence.

Let me give you some examples.

a. Each juror felt he needed more evidence before voting to convict the former football star.

b. Her many awards were evidence enough that Leona excelled in dancing.

Can you remember the meaning of excelled? Excel.

We studied then we learned this word in previous lessons.

Excel means to do better than other people, to do better than other people. Excel.

c. Our teacher ignored the evidence that Simon had cheated on the test.

The essential word in this sentence is ignored.

To ignore somebody means to pay no attention to somebody, ignore.

So this is the first word of absolutely essential words. Evidence.

Word number two is solitary, solitary. As you can see in this picture there is a prison and there is a man on the corner. He’s alone, single or only.

So solitary means alone, single or sometimes we can say only. solitary.

Let me give you some examples.

a. Sid’s Solitary manner kept him from making no friendships.

So as you can see solitary is an adjective here. Solitary.

b. there was not a solitary piece of evidence that’s manual had eaten the cheesecake.

Yes there is not a solitary piece, even one piece of evidence.

c. the convict went into a rage when he was placed in a solitary cell.

Yes the essential word here is rage. We studied this ward in the previous lessons.

Rage means anger or actually violent anger that something in gruff rage.

Let’s go and learn the next word.

The next word is vision, vision. Vision is a power of seeing the sense of sight. vision.

a. With the aid of binoculars, my vision improved enough to see the entire vicinity. Vicinity means neighborhood.

We study and we actually learn this word in previous lessons. Vicinity which means neighborhood.

b. Ted had perfect vision that helped to make him a good baseball player.

He had a perfect power of seeing. He could see everything very clearly.

c. The glasses Irma bought corrected her nearsighted vision.

I have to tell you this point that we have two kinds of visions we have near sighted vision and we have far sighted vision.

So for example I myself I guess far sighted vision. I have difficulties seeing something that is very far. I have to put on some glasses. so glasses can improve your vision.

The next word is frequent, frequent. Frequent means something that is happening often or occurring repeatedly, frequent.

the adverb of this adjective is frequently, frequently.

Let’s use this word in different examples.

a. We made frequent visits to the hospital to see our grandfather.

Yes. So we went to the hospitals very regularly and repeatedly.

b. On a frequent occasion Sam fell asleep in class. on frequent occasions means many times he fell asleep in class.

That’s actually really bad behavior.

c. Dr. Bonner gave me some pills for my frequent headaches. Frequent headaches.

So frequently is the adjective here. The noun is yes frequence, frequence. And frequently is the adverb.

For example I visit my grandfather frequently. Yes.Which means repeatedly.

So that’s an essential word of this part.

The next essential word a very important word is a glimpse, glimpse. Glimpse is the noun and verb which means a short quick look or view. Glimpse.

Let’s use this word in different examples and see what does that mean.

a. This morning we caught our first glimpse of the beautiful shoreline.

Yes.

b. One glimpse of the very feminine vision was enough to tell Romeo that he loves Juliet.

Yes. One glimpse of the very feminine vision. actually the essential word here is feminine and vision.

Feminine means something that is related to women and the vision as we studied this a few minutes ago means a power of actually seeing something.

And the last example:

c. The tall shrubs kept us from getting a glimpse of the new people who inhabited the beach house.

Yes and so we understand this sentence but the essential word here is inhabit which means to live in.

Can you remember the meaning of this word?

I think we studied this word in lesson number five or six.

I could not remember exactly but inhabit means to live in one place.

Next word is recent, recent. Recent is a noun an adjective. The adverb is a recently. So recent means done made or occurring not long ago.

Something that happened may be not long ago.

a. At a recent meeting. So here at the recent meeting needs something that happened not long ago maybe a few days ago a few minutes ago, few hours ago.

At a recent meeting of the board of education provided the evidence we had been asking for evidence.

Yes evidence can remember we studied this actually words in the first. Actually part of this lesson evidence.

b. And beside. Excuse me. Bessie liked the old silent movies better than the more recent ones.

Yes. Better than the more recent ones.

Recent studies have concluded that more people are unemployed than ever before.

Yes recent studies, studies that have done. Not long ago. That’s the meaning of recent.

So here, there is conclude. There is an essential word in this sentence which means to end and finish.

The next word is decade which means ten years, ten years.

In this picture you can see that the man and the woman have been married maybe for like ten years.

So it’s like a decade.

a. After a decade of granting salary increases, my boss ended the practice.

b. many people moved out of this city in the last decade. in the last 10 years.

c. I have a vision that this decade will be better than the last one.

So the essential word here is vision. Again we studied this word Right now. The vision means the power of seeing something.

A repetition of these essential words and different. Actually sentences will help you to understand and to memorize and to use these words in different conversations.

Hesitate, hesitate.

I think this girl in this picture she has hesitated to do something. Hesitate means to fail to act quickly or to be undecided.

When you don’t know to what to do and you are undecided, you hesitate and the noun of this word is hesitation.

Hesitate is a verb.

a. Nora hesitated to accept the challenge. Challenge is an essential word here which means to call somebody for a flight challenge.

b. when he got to the robbers’ vicinity, he hesitated before going in.

The essential word here is vicinity which means can you remember?

Yes vicinity means neighborhood, neighborhood.

And the last example:

c. The proverb tells us that he, he who hesitates is lost.

Exactly. He who hesitates is lost.

I think the meaning of this sentence is completely clear.

He’s a person who failed to act quickly. We lose. We always have to act very quickly.

So this is an essential word hesitate.

Absurd. absurd is an adjective means plainly not true or sensible or we can say something that is foolish.

Something that is foolish is absurd, absurd.

As you can see in this picture this guy’s actually absurd and he has absurd ideas maybe.

a. it was absurd to believe the fisherman’s tall tale. Tall tale which means tall story.

b. The flabby boy you realized that the suggestion to diet was not absurd. It was not foolish

c. Underestimating the importance of reading is absurd.

Exactly. Exactly.

So the essential word here is underestimate, underestimate.

Can you remember the meaning of underestimate? underestimate means to set low value or to under value something.

So do not underestimate the importance of readind guys.

Conflict, conflict. as you can see in this picture there is a conflict between the red and the white person.

Conflict means direct opposition or disagreements, disagreement.

That’s the meaning of conflict conflict.

a. Our opinions about the company’s success in the last decade are in conflict with what their records show.

Yes,There is a direct opposition here.

So the essential word here as you can see is decade which means yes 10 years is a decade.

b. There was a noisy conflict over who was the better tennis player.

Yes there was a noisy conflict, noisy disagreement.

c. The class meditation team was invited to settle the conflict.

Yes to settle the conflict. To end the conflict.

The next essential word is minority, minority or sometimes we say minority. Minority or minority no difference.

Minority means smaller number or part less than half.

As you can remember the word majority. majorities opposite of minority.

So these two words are antonyms.

So let me give you some examples.

a. Only a small minority of the neighborhood didn’t want a new park. Yes.

So a minority means less than half or a smaller number of people.

b. A minority of our athletes who competed in the Olympics who were victorious.

Yeah so the essential words here are victorious. Which means to be the winner of something. to be the winner.

c. Native Americans are the minority group in the United States.

Fiction. the last word of this lesson is fiction.

Fiction is a noun as you can see in this picture there is a fiction which means actually that which is imagined or made up.

When we speak about something that is imagined, imagination or imagined.

We use the word fiction. Something that is not real.

a. The story that the president had died was fiction.

Yes it was not real. It was something imaginary.

We hardly ever believed Vinny because what he said was usually fiction.

Yes. Nobody believes him because what he says is on a real.

c. Marge enjoys reading works of fiction rather than true stories.

Yes some people are really interested in their reading fictions than writing some true stories.

So these are 12 essential words of Lesson Number Eleven.
