The simple past passive

Use the active form of verb to focus on the “doer” or cause of the action.

Use the passive form to focus on the “receiver” of the action, or when the “doer” or cause is not known or not important.

A student found a bag on a bus.

A bag was found on a bus.

The authorities closed the airport.

The airport was closed.

A teenager saw two bears in a yard.

Two bears were seen in a yard.

The accident didn’t injure the passengers.

The passengers weren’t injured.
