Read, listen and answer the questions.

Istanbul is one of the world’s biggest and most beautiful cities. It is the only city in the world that is built on two continents - Europe and Asia. They are divided a bit of the sea that looks like a river: the Bosphorus Strait. Tourists love Istanbul because it offers the combination of a modern, Western lifestyle with fascinating Eastern traditions. In 2010, Istanbul was named the European Capital of Culture.

Wow.

No where are we?

I’m not sure exactly.

But it looks like we’re back in the present.

Yes, we’re in some kind of market.

Wow, look at those beautiful cups and saucers. I love them.

And I bet you love the silver and the gold too.

Yeah, some of these rings are cool. Or the gold earrings over there. They’re lovely.

I’m hot. I think I’m going to buy a few oranges.

I don’t think you’ll like them too much.

Why?

They’re mad of soap. Look.

Really? You’re right.

I’d like to know where we are.

Everything’s so colourful. There’s gold and silver. I guess we could be in Asia somewhere.

Not bad. The city where we are both in Asia and in Europe.

What? How do you know that?

It’s a fantastic city. With lots of beautiful sights for tourists. And some spectacular bridges.

Stop this. Please Phoebe. Where are we?

We’re in Istanbul.

How did you know that?

From reading.

Another one of your famous books?

No, not this time. Just look at those big combs over there. What does it say on them?

I love Istanbul.

That’s right.
