Mrs Forbes: Well, I don’t know, I’m sure! What is the world coming to? A thief in this house! Oh, what’s going on, do you think, Mr Morgan?

Morgan: I’ve been butler to Lady Paula for fifteen years, but I have to say she’s caused a lot of problems with this plan of hers for marrying again. It’s a pity she didn’t stay with Sir Montague - he’s a very nice gentleman. But this Derek Donovan! Just after her money, he is, to pay his debts - he owes money to lots of people.

She won’t be happy with him, I know her well enough to see that. I heard Sir Montague say once that their divorce was all a misunderstanding, and they should get back together again. He’s very jealous of Derek Donovan.

Mrs. F: Oh, dear, dear! And you can see that Lucy Bisto’s in love with Charles.

[yeah] I think she really hates Lady Paula because she doesn’t allow her son much money. That’s what Miss Lucy thinks.

M: And we all know Charles owes a lot of money himself. He likes going to casinos and horse-racing too much!

Mrs. F: Oh, poor Lady Paula!

I know what it’s like to have family problems - there’s my son who’s still in trouble with the police. [Oh] It is a worry.

M: I can see that, Mrs. Forbes. But Derek Donovan’s the real problem. Think how comfortable we’d be if life just went on the same, and Lady Paula didn’t remarry!
