Now this is very exciting. If you’ve just joined us, we’re about to see what could be the final game in the final set of this match between the number one player, Lulu Bassett, and the almost unknown, up till today anyway, Rosie Finch. Both players are American.

Lulu, the unbeaten world champion, is playing well but she looks a little tired, while the younger girl, Rosie, is still full of energy. And my money’s on her. She’s looking fit and fresh and her serve is pretty powerful, I can tell you.

The players have won one set each so far, and this is the third and final set, which will decide the winner of the whole match. And at the moment Rosie Finch is in front, with 5 games to 4. She’s in a strong position. This is the final set, remember, and it’s Rosie Finch to serve.

The girls are … are going out onto the court now.

The crowd’s clapping. It’s a warm clear day in Los Angeles, and it s a great turnout. OK, the umpire’s calling for quiet now, and here comes Rosie Finch to serve. Whoa, that was a fast one, and Lulu Bassett just couldn’t get to it! One of Rosie’s aces - a beautiful serve! OK— fifteen-love.

Now Rosie’s serving again … it’s in, and Lulu returns it, low the other side of the net, so Rosie has to run in to get there, she’s running, but, no, Rosie can’t get to it. So it’s fifteen all. The crowd’s getting excited now.

Rosie’s mother and boyfriend are sitting in the front row, and I think I can see Lulu’s husband and manager sitting just beside them. Rosie serves again, it’s in, and Lulu hits it back, hard, and Rosie returns it. Lulu hits it into the net! Oh! Thirty- fifteen. Rosie must keep a cool head - she’s only two points away from winning the world championship.

She serves again, Lulu returns it but it goes into the net! Forty-fifteen, and match point for Rosie. Can she win this? She serves again. Oh that was fast! Was it in?

Lulu couldn’t return it, she’s looking at the umpire, hoping it was out, but … no, the umpire says it was in! Game, set and match to Rosie Finch, she’s the new world champion!

Hah, the crowd’s going mad! She’s waving to her fans and running over to kiss her mother. But oh my goodness, Lulu’s looking furious with the umpire! Lulu’s husband’s on his feet.

Oh no, I can’t believe this! He’s just punched Rosie’s boyfriend on the nose! Lulu’s thrown her racquet at Rosie! It’s chaos here at the Greenfield Lawn Tennis Club. Two paramedics are running onto the court - and this is Lee Mackenroe, in Los Angeles, returning you to the studio.
