Unit 28- B

. I come from Newcastle, up in the north-east of England, so I often do my training in the Scottish Highlands. There’s usually quite good snow there. But at the moment I’m training in the Alps.

It’s cold and sunny, and the snow’s just right for downhill skiing. I’m hoping I’ll be in the team for the winter Olympics. That’s the plan, anyway. I think I’ll probably be good enough.

1. Oh, hockey’s a simply super sport, a really good team game, you see.

You can’t just think about yourself and your own problems, you have to think about the team, that’s really important. Out there in the fresh air, oh yes, it’s wonderful! Of course, there isn’t any money in it. It isn’t a popular sport like football or even tennis, so most of us play it for love! Ha ha ha! In fact, my income comes from teaching it.

I give lessons at a local school - the girls all love it there. But I’ll be playing in the national team against Canada on Friday - pretty exciting, wouldn’t you say?

1. Yeah, it’s exhausting playing in a darts match, I can tell you. You need a bit of food to keep you going, that’s what I say.

I’ll be playing for the Queen’s Cup next month, and I’ll be building myself up for that, eating well. Of course, the prize money goes soon enough, so to pay the bills I work as a delivery man for a furniture shop. Heavy work, but then, er, I’ve got the figure for it. I can pick up a piano, no trouble at all!

1. You can take a photo of me if you like. Everybody warns a photo of me. I don’t know why. Must be because I’m so famous. Well, when you’re the world’s number one at snooker, it stands to reason, doesn’t it? I’m making a TV programme about my life, and snooker, and then a bit more about me.

Millions of people will want to watch it, because they find me interesting, you see? Still, now I’m world champion (did I mention that? ), I don’t really need the money any more. I’ve already got a Mercedes and a Ferrari - they’re all right, nothing special. I think I’ll probably retire from snooker soon. Doesn’t seem much point in playing, really.
