Unit 13- C

Well, it all started when I decided to buy my girlfriend a sweater for her birthday. Like so many things, it seemed a good idea at the time!

I went straight into town, to one of the big department stores, you know, and bought her a lovely red sweater. I thought she’d love it, but you never can tell, can you? She took one look at it and said, ‘I just don’t see myself in red!’ and that was that!

So I had to take it back to the shop to change it, and this time I got her a blouse, not red, of course, a rather nice green, actually I gave it to her that evening, but when she took it out of the bag, she burst into tears and said, ‘Do you really think I’m as large as that?’

It certainly did look rather big when she held it up - I must have got the wrong size. Anyway, I was going to take it back to the shop and change it, but I happened to be talking to the girl next door, and she saw the bag and asked what was in it, and when I told her, she asked to try it on. And she loved it!

So I gave it to her. And when my girlfriend saw her wearing the green blouse, she refused to see me ever again. So, that’s how I started going out with the girl next door!
