Unit 13- B

George: Look, you say what you think we should get, Zoe, and I’ll write it down.

Zoe: I think we should have a roast chicken, and different sorts of salad, and very cold white wine, and lots of fruit like melon and peaches.

G: Hang on a minute! We’ve got to carry it all, remember! And peaches aren’t even in the shops yet! No, let’s stick to something simple like, um, sandwiches and crisps.

Z: What! That’s not very exciting for a picnic.

I tell you what - we can do roast chicken and sandwiches with lots of different fillings.

G: OK, that’s great! Now, er, what shall I put on my list - bread, butter, um, some nice cheese?

Z: Yes, and tomatoes. What about a lettuce?

G: No need, there’s one in my fridge.

But we must have a cucumber, um, carrots, radishes, oh, and mayonnaise. Oh, wait till you taste my special salad sandwiches!

Z: Gosh, I can’t wait! Now, have you put a large chicken on the list? And we need some eggs - we can hard-boil them and make egg mayonnaise.

G: Oh yes!

What about a tin of tuna? And some olives, um, and some slices of beef?

Z: Yes, and a packet of pasta. Then I could make a pasta salad with some tuna and olives. Everybody likes that.

G: And a bottle of salad dressing, you know, sort of oil and vinegar mixture.

Z: Mmm. Now, what else do we need? Oh yes, the drinks! There are a lot of us, remember. Some bottles of white wine …

G: And a few cartons of fruit juice.

Z: Brilliant! And lots and lots of strawberries - they’re in the shops now!
