Why? Because - ‘cos, ‘cause
When someone asks, “Why?” we answer with “because.” Let’s practice using “why” and “because.” You can study with my students Andreia and Flavia. Hey ladies. Let’s talk about questions, like “why.” What day is today? Today is Friday. Today is Friday. Why are we studying on Friday? Why? Why not Monday? Why not Wednesday?
Why do we study on Fridays? Can we study on Tuesday? On Monday? No. No. Why? Why not Monday? Why not Tuesday? You need to tell me why. We study on Friday, but why? Because. Because. Do you know, Flavia? Why? Because Friday it’s our free time.
Free day. It’s our free day. Because on Friday we’re free. Yes. And when do you go to school? I go to school Monday at. You can say At Thursday? Monday to Thursday or Monday through Thursday. So, I go to school on Monday through Thursday. So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Right, so you can say, “I go to school on Monday through Thursday.” Through. Through. Through. Through. Through. Through. Through
Monday through Thursday. Through. Through. Through. Good. Through. Through. Through. Monday through Thursday. Monday through Thursday. Monday through Thursday. Monday through Thursday. Thursday. We go to school. Right? Because we’re busy. Right? And Friday is our free day. So you can say, “Why?” “Because Friday is our free day.” Because Friday we are free. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we’re. What’s the opposite of “free”? What’s thet word? Busy. Busy. Because we’re busy on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. We’re free on Friday. Right? So why?
I can ask, “Why?” Why Friday? Why not Monday? Why not Tuesday? Why not Wednesday? Why not Thursday? Because we’re free on Friday. So you can say, “Because we’re free on Friday” Or the whole sentence. We study on Friday because it’s our free day. So when you use “because,” you can have a big sentence, the whole idea. We study on Friday because we’re free.
Or short: Because we’re free. Because. Because. You’ll hear people say because, ‘cos, ‘cause. There’s different pronunciations. I say “because.” Is it a contraction? Yes – a short form you’ll hear is ‘cause. Especially fast. Because we’re free. ‘Cause we’re free. Because we’re free. Because you’re free. We’re. You and Flavia, right? Because we are free. Because we’re we’re, we are, we are free. Or fast: ‘cause we’re free. ‘Cause we’re free. Cause we’re free.’ ‘Cause we’re free. Cause it’s our free day. Do you understand?
When someone asks, “Why?” there can be a short answer or a long answer, a full sentence. Why do Flavia, Andreia, and I study together on Fridays? The short answer: Because it’s their free day. The long answer – You can say, “You study together on Fridays because it’s their free day.” Okay. So let’s talk about “why” and “because.” Okay. Why and because. Do you see the woman?
Yes. Yes. Flavia, what’s this? A hat. Uh-huh. And let’s make a question with WHY. Why is she wearing. Good! a hat. Why is she wearing a hat? One more time. Why is she wearing a hat? Why is she wearing. Why is she wearing. the hat. A hat. A hat. Why is she wearing Why is she wearing a hat? Mm-hmm. Ask one more time, and you’re going to answer. Oh. Why is she wearing a hat?
Because it’s summer. It’s summer. Because it’s summer. And what’s in the sky? Because. Because. What is that? The sun. What’s the sun doing? Because the sun is. Take “shine” and add -ing. Shining. Shining. One more time. Why is she wearing a hat? Because the sun is shining. It’s shining. Because the sun is shining. Or you can say because the sun is bright. Bright, right?
We have bright and dark. Oh. Right? Bright lights? And at night, it’s dark. So, because it’s bright. Because the sun is bright. Because the sun is shining. Oh. Okay. Because the sun is bright. Because the sun is bright. That’s easy! All right. What is that, Andreia? Umbrella? Okay. Let’s make a question with “have.” Why are they have umbrella? Uh-huh. This one is not easy. If we use “have,” no -ing. So we can do “why do.” Oh. Why do they have umbrella? How many umbrellas ? One, two. So two umbrellas. Umbrellas.
Why do they have Umbrellas. Why do they have umbrellas? Why? Because it’s rain. Raining. Raining. Because it’s raining. Because it’s ringing. Yeah. Because it’s raining. They want to be dry. Because they want to be dry. All right. Do you see the man? Okay. He has a hat and a coat. A coat. What kind of coat? What season – Is this summer? Snow. It’s snow. It’s not summer.
It’s not spring. It’s not fall. What time of the year? Winter. So he has a winter coat. A winter coat? A winter coat. Mm-hmm. Let’s make a question with “why.” Why is he wearing a winter coat? Yeah. Because it’s cold. Yeah, because it’s cold. This is snow. What’s that? Do you know? What is that? Ball? A ball. Snowball. Snowball. Mm-hmm. Question? Why is he through? Throwing. Why is he throwing. throwing a ball? A snowball. A snowball. One more time. Why is he throw a snowball?
Why is he throwing. Why is he throwing a snowball? Why? I don’t know. Why? Because he’s playing in the snow. Because he’s playing in the snow. Because he wants to have fun. I don’t know. Because he’s silly. I don’t know. Okay. What are those? Glasses. Yeah. Glasses. What kind of glasses?
Sunglasses. Sunglasses that are dark. Right? Dark glasses. Okay. So what’s the question? Why is she wearing glasses? Glasses. No “a.” All right. So why is she wearing glasses? Sunglasses. Sunglasses. .Again. Why is she wearing sunglasses? Why? Because. Because the sun bright. Mm-hmm. The sun is bright. Bright. Because the sun is bright. Because the sun is bright. Okay.
She has glasses and what else does she have? What is she wearing? Coat. A coast is heavy. Sweater. Sweater. I’m wearing a sweater. Okay. Let’s make that question. Andreia. Why is she wearing a sweater. Mm-hmm. Why is she wearing. Why is she wearing the a sweater? Why? Because she’s cold. Maybe she’s cold. Because maybe she’s cold. We don’t know exactly.
Okay. All right. Um, why do I have a pen today? Do you know? Why? Why? Why do I have a pen? Because I write? Because you want to write. Because you need to write. Oh. Right. Because, um, what do you. Let’s see. Why do you need a phone? Because I need to call. I need to call people. I need to call people. Why do you have a necklace? Because it’s a memory for me. Aw. Or you say, “Because it’s special.” It’s special. Because it’s special. I like it. Let’s practice more with the question WHY? Answer my questions with BECAUSE.
one: Why is he taking a picture?
Two: why is he on the floor?
Three: Why are the ladies in pretty dresses?
Four: Why does he have a microphone?
Five: why are they sitting together?
That’s all for now.
