A Lot OR Many?

A lot of students don’t use this expression naturally. Let’s talk about it.

Recently, I’ve heard a lot of my students make a lot of mistakes with this word. What’s the word: a lot. The word is “a lot”, but the problem is that they don’t use the word a lot instead they say things like “Many people want to speak English”. This sentence is fine. There’s nothing grammatically wrong with this sentence but it sounds a little bit rigid, or formal many people so instead I want to encourage you to use the word “a lot”, A lot of people want to speak English, a lot. I’ve heard sentences like “I ate many pieces of pizza today” or” I drink many beers with my friends on the weekend” or” I study English for many times”.

Let’s change this a little bit.

Instead of using the word “many” let’s simply use the word “a lot”,” a lot”.

I ate a lot of pizza yesterday.

I drank a lot of beer with my friends.

I study English a lot.
