Today Adam and Emma Parker received the Carson City excellence award for their service to the city’s children. 20 years ago the Parkers started the hangout is a place for children to come after school to play, talk, and get help doing their schoolwork.

The Parkers of helped hundreds of children feel safe, supported and loved.

I almost live at the hangout you know I mean this feels like home. The Parkers are cool people. They make us feel important.

Yeah we’re all good friends here and like with me, now I enjoy going to school. I think about college.

Me too. I’m definitely going to college.

Yeah me I’m thinking about studying engineering.

I think I want to do something with politics maybe like Tosha. She is a community organizer.

Tosha is just one of many volunteers who work with the kids at the hangout.

As a kid Tosha used to come to the hangout herself so she knows with these kids need.
