Hello this is AJ. Welcome to the point-of-view stories for this month’s lesson. Let’s get started. Three versions of the story, the first one as if it’s happening now.

Frannie the cat has 12 kittens and they are always very needy and demanding. They are always starving for attention and they are always hungry, but Frannie always goes the extra mile for her kittens. She always makes an extra effort for her kittens. She always does extra work for her kittens. She always goes the extra mile for her kittens.

She always catches and feeds the best mice to them. She always lavishes them with attention and she always spoils them rotten.

Well, unfortunately, because she spoils them rotten her kittens become even more demanding and even more spoiled and they are constantly complaining all the time. They always want more, more, more.

Finally Frannie realizes that she needs to practice tough love and so she begins to discipline her kittens. She disciplines her kittens and she teaches them patience and self-reliance. Now, the kittens do not enjoy this for a long time, but eventually the kittens do learn patience and self-reliance, they learn to be more appreciative and they respect Frannie more.

All right, our next story begins with…

Since they were born, so since her kittens were born, Frannie has always spoiled them rotten. Frannie had 12 kittens and they have always been, since they were born, needy and demanding. Since they were born they have been starved for attention. Since they were born they have always been hungry, constantly hungry. They have been hungry, hungry, hungry. They’ve wanted more food. They’ve wanted more attention all the time and Frannie has always gone the extra mile for her kittens. She has always given them extra attention. She has always given extra effort for them. She has always done everything possible for them. She has always caught and fed the best mice to them.

She has always lavished them with attention since they were born and she has spoiled them rotten, but as a result the kittens have become more and more spoiled and demanding.

Well, finally Frannie realized that this must stop. She realized that she needed to practice tough love and so she began to discipline her kittens. She began to teach them patience and self-reliance and, of course, the kittens didn’t like this for a long time. They complained and they complained. They didn’t like tough love. They didn’t like discipline, but eventually the kittens did learn to be more appreciative. They did learn patience and self-reliance and finally they learned to respect Frannie much more.

And now our final version into the future. Let’s imagine this might happen in the future.

We’re dreaming about it.

In the future there will be a cat and her name will be Frannie and she’s gonna have 12 kittens. (‘Gonna’ means going to, it’s informal for the future. Old members all know that, but if you’re new there you go.)

So, in the future she’s gonna have 12 kittens and they will be very needy and demanding. They’ll always be starving for attention. They’ll always be hungry, but still Frannie will always go the extra mile for her kittens. She’s always gonna go the extra mile for her kittens. She’s always gonna do extra work for them. She’s always gonna make an extra effort for them. She’ll catch and feed the best mice to them. She’ll lavish them with attention constantly. In fact, she’ll spoil them rotten, but still the kittens will become even more demanding and even more spoiled. They’ll constantly complain.

They’ll constantly want more.

Well, finally Frannie is gonna realize that she needs to practice tough love. She’s gonna start disciplining her kittens. She’ll discipline them and she’ll teach them patience and self-reliance. Of course, they’re gonna complain. The kittens are not gonna like this, but eventually the kittens will learn patience and self-reliance and eventually the kittens will learn to be more appreciative and finally they will learn to respect Frannie more.

That’s the end of our three versions of the story. All you need to do is just listen to them each day. Don’t think about the grammar. Don’t try to analyze it too much. Just listen and notice how some things change with the different timeframes. Each month this will go deeper into your brain. It will become more natural for you. You won’t need to think about the grammar you’ll just use it more and more correctly.

A final note about ‘gonna’, which means going to. We only use it in speech, so don’t use it in writing. Well, you can use it for very casual writing like a blog post or an email, but don’t use it in any kind of formal writing.
