Self Reliance - VIP POV
Hello, this is AJ. Welcome to the POV, the point-of-view stories for this month’s lesson.
Let’s get started.
So the main mini story I told mostly in the present, as if it was happening at that moment, so this time I’m going to tell you the story in the past. We’re looking back, it already happened.
So in the past you know, of course, Heva and Chim-chim are good friends – they still are – and in the past they wanted to take a buddy trip. They wanted to go from New York to Hawaii. They thought that it would be a great experience as friends to travel together, to go on a road trip and so they did.
Now, the first part of their trip started in New York City and they went to the airport. So they wanted to fly. So they went to the airport, but they had a problem in security, right?
Chim-chim’s water was confiscated. They confiscated Chim-chim’s water at the security point and he got very upset about it and they frisked, they searched and patted Heva.
Now, Heva was fine. He didn’t get upset at all, but Chim-chim got very upset and he yelled at the security guards. He said “You oppressive bastards!” And that was it. They went on and eventually Chim-chim calmed down and they arrived in Chicago. So they flew to Chicago and they safely arrived in Chicago and after they flew to Chicago they rented a car. They decided to rent a car and then they wanted to drive to Los Angeles.
So they went to the rent-a-car agency and Chim-chim he wanted a Ferrari, a fast, red, super cool Ferrari and Heva wanted an SUV, a nice, big, comfortable car, almost like a truck, but unfortunately the company was out of both of those kinds of cars so instead they got a compact car, a very small cheap car. So they drove from Chicago all the way to Los Angeles. They drove there and then they went to the port.
Now, a ‘port’ is a location. It’s a place. That’s where ships come onto land and where you get onto ships.
So they went to the Los Angeles Port and they got onto a cruise ship. They took a cruise. They got onto the cruise ship and they got a stateroom on the starboard side of the ship, which is the right side. It was, you know, very nice and they had a fantastic cruise. In fact, it was a completely hedonistic trip. They just drank and drank and drank and ate lots of great food and they saw lots of great entertainment and they got massages. It was fantastic. It was hedonistic, super pleasurable and when they finally arrived in Hawaii they felt great and they had a closer friendship and everything was wonderful.
And that’s the end of version one of the story. Let’s do version two, as always, with the future. Why? Because the future is so common, just like the past, just like the present, we constantly use it, so let’s try that. Here we go.
So just imagine this might happen in the future. Maybe it’s a movie idea. Maybe it’s a dream. I don’t know.
In the future there will be Chim-chim and Heva. They’ll be in New York City and they’ll want to go on a trip to Hawaii. They want to take a buddy trip. So first they’re gonna go to the New York City Airport and, as all our old members know, ‘gonna’ means going to.
We use it in common speech all the time. Don’t use it in writing. Don’t use it in formal writing.
So, anyway, they’re gonna go to the New York City Airport first, but they’re gonna have a problem at security because the security officers will confiscate Chim-chim’s water.
They’re gonna confiscate his water and he’s gonna get very, very angry and he’s gonna yell at them and say “You oppressive bastards!” They’re also gonna frisk Heva. Now, Heva is more relaxed so he’s not gonna get upset. He’ll just be polite and then go through security, no problem.
Well, they’ll fly to Chicago and they’ll arrive successfully and then they’ll go to a rent-acar agency and at the rent-a-car agency they’re gonna have a difference of opinion.
They’re going to disagree. Chim-chim he’s gonna want a Ferrari, a sport car and Heva he’s gonna want an SUV. And they’re gonna argue and argue and argue, but it doesn’t matter because the agency will be out of both kinds of cars so instead they’ll have to get a compact car.
So they’ll get their compact car and they’ll drive it from Chicago all the way to Los Angeles. They’ll go to the Port of Los Angeles, they’ll get on a cruise ship and they’re gonna get a stateroom on the starboard side of the ship, the right side of the ship.
They’re gonna have a fantastic cruise. It’ll be great. It’ll be completely hedonistic. It’ll be a super pleasurable trip and they’ll arrive in Hawaii feeling relaxed and happy and fantastic.
And that‘s version two of our story. Version three of our story, as usual, we’ll start it with since. You know we’ll kind of play with the time periods in the past and then at some point we’ll switch. So just listen for when the story switches and understand that I switch when I start talking about specific things instead of a time period.
So for many years during their friendship Heva and Chim-chim have talked about taking a buddy trip. They have dreamed about it. They have even planned a trip. They have imagined taking this great trip together from New York to Hawaii, but for many years they’re not able to do it. So they have planned it, they have imagined it, they have wanted to do it, but they haven’t done it. Until finally one day they decide to do it.
They decide yes, let’s take our buddy trip and so they book their tickets and they go to the New York City Airport. They go to the airport, but they have a problem at security.
Chim-chim gets very upset because the security officers confiscate his water. He gets so upset that he yells at them “You oppressive bastards!” Heva he gets frisked, but he doesn’t get upset. He’s relaxed. He walks through security calmly.
Eventually, they do fly to Chicago and when they arrive they rent a car. Now, Chim-chim wants to get a Ferrari, Heva wants to get an SUV, but they’re not available and so they get a compact car and they drive from Chicago down to Los Angeles. They go to the Port of Los Angeles and then they get a cruise. So they get onto the cruise ship and they get a stateroom on the starboard, the left side of the boat. Not on the port side. The port is the left side.
So ‘port’, I’ve used this twice in this story. First, it’s a noun ‘port’. It means it’s the location where a ship comes to the land, but when you use it as an adjective ‘on the ship’ it means the left side of the ship, the port side.
So, anyway, they get a room on the starboard side, on the right side and they enjoy it.
They have a great time. It’s a super fun hedonistic trip, very pleasurable. They get to Hawaii and they’re super happy and relaxed.
And that’s the end of our point-of-view stories. It’s very simple, just listen to them seven times, 10 times, 14 times, 568 times, your choice. I will see you next time. Have a great day, bye-bye.
