Concert Chef – Point Of View Lesson

Hi, I’m Joe Weiss and I’m one of the teachers and directors of Learn Real English and I’d like to welcome you to this point of view lesson. Okay, in this lesson I’m going to tell you the same story three times but each time I tell you the story, I’m going to change the point of view for the story. That’s why we call this the point of view lesson. Okay, so I want to start by telling you the story as if it’s happening right now in the present, so let’s start.

There is a man and his name is Michael and Michael loves music. And his favorite band is named Black Dog and even though Black Dog sometimes plays some songs that Michael doesn’t necessarily like, he still loves the band because Michael is a die-hard fan.

Well, Michael lives in San Antonio, Texas and in San Antonio, Texas there is a club and that club is named the Dog House. And Black Dog is scheduled to play a concert at the Dog House. And, of course, Michael wants to attend the concert so Michael goes to the club to purchase a concert ticket.

Well, unfortunately, when Michael arrives at the club, the tickets are already sold out and Michael is very upset by this. So he sits down in front of the club and he cries his eyes out. He cries his eyes out for four hours.

Well, the singer in the band Black Dog is named Charlie Poodle and Charlie Poodle is a very nice, caring man. And Charlie Poodle goes to the club after he checks out of his hotel. And when he arrives at the club, Charlie Poodle sees Michael crying, so Charlie Poodle sits down next to Michael and he talks to him.

And they talk for a long time and finally Michael stops crying so Charlie Poodle is very happy about that. But Charlie Poodle is also hungry, so he asks Michael if he has any food. Well, earlier that day, Michael makes lasagna for lunch and he makes more lasagna than he is able to eat so he has leftovers and Michael takes the leftovers to the concert with him.

So he gives Charlie Poodle the leftovers and Charlie Poodle eats the leftovers and he loves what he has eaten. He tells Michael that the lasagna is exactly like the lasagna that his mother makes, and Charlie Poodle loves the leftovers so much that he offers Michael a job as his personal chef.

And he tells Michael that his personal chef gets a free ticket to every Black Dog concert.

Well, Michael is overjoyed when he hears this, and he accepts the job offer. And after that, Michael always has a ticket to the Black Dog concert, so he never cries his eyes out ever again.

Okay, so that’s the end of the first story in this lesson. Now in that story I told you the story as if it is happening in the present right now. Next, I want to tell you the story as if it will happen in the future, so let’s start.

47-1/2 years from now in the future there will be a man and his name is going to be Michael and Michael is going to love music. And Michael’s favorite band is going to be named Black Dog and sometimes Black Dog will play songs that Michael doesn’t really like but Michael is still going to love the band because he’s going to be a die-hard fan.

Well, Michael’s going to live in San Antonio, Texas and in San Antonio, Texas there will be a club and the club is going to be named the Dog House and Black Dog is going to be scheduled to play a concert at the Dog House. And, of course, Michael’s going to want to go to the concert to Michael’s going to go to the club to buy a concert ticket.

Well, unfortunately, Michael’s going to arrive at the club and the tickets are already going to be sold out. So Michael’s going to be very upset. He’s going to be so upset that he’s going to sit down in front of the club and cry his eyes out. Michael’s going to cry his eyes out for four hours.

Well, Charlie Poodle is going to be the singer for the band Black Dog and Charlie Poodle is going to be a very nice, caring man. Well, on the night of the concert, Charlie Poodle is going to go to the club after he checks out of his hotel and Charlie Poodle is going to arrive at the club and he’s going to see Michael crying. So Charlie Poodle is going to sit down next to Michael and he’s going to talk to him.

He’s going to talk to Michael for a long time and finally Michael is going to stop crying. So Charlie Poodle is going to be very happy about that. But Charlie Poodle is also going to be hungry so he’s going to ask Michael if he has any food. Well, earlier that day, Michael will have made lasagna for lunch and he will not have been able to eat all of the lasagna, so Michael is going to have leftovers and he’s going to have brought those leftovers to the concert.

So Michael is going to give Charlie Poodle the leftovers and Charlie Poodle is going to eat those leftovers and he’s going to love the food that he eats. Charlie Poodle is going to think that the lasagna tastes just like the lasagna his mother makes. And Charlie Poodle is going to love the leftovers so much that he’s going to offer Michael a job as his personal chef. And Charlie Poodle is going to tell Michael that his personal chef always gets a ticket to every single Black Dog concert.

Well, Michael’s going to hear this and he’s going to be overjoyed and he’s going to accept the job offer. And after that, Michael will always have a ticket to the Black Dog concert so he’s never going to cry his eyes out ever again.

Okay, so that’s the end of our second story in this lesson. Now in that story, I told the story as if it will happen in the future, I think I said 47-1/2 years in the future. But regardless of that, it was told as if it was happening in the future. So I have one more story for you in this lesson. Now this time, I’m going to change the point of view so that Michael is telling the story and the story will be told as if has already happened. Alright, so let’s start.

Hello, my name is Michael and I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me a long time ago. You see, at that time I loved music and my favorite band was named Black Dog.

And even though Black Dog played some songs I didn’t like, I still loved the band. I loved them no matter what because I was a die-hard fan.

Well, I lived in San Antonio, Texas at that time and at that time in San Antonio, Texas there was a club and that club was named the Dog House and Black Dog was scheduled to play a concert at the Dog House. And of course, I wanted to go, so I went to the club to purchase a concert ticket.

He said that it was just like the lasagna his mother made and Charlie Poodle loved the leftovers so much that he offered me a job as his personal chef. And he told me that his personal chef gets a free ticket to every Black Dog concert.

Well, when I heard that I was overjoyed, and I accepted the job right away. And after that, I always had a ticket to the Black Dog concert, so I never cried my eyes out ever again.

Okay, so that’s the end of our third and final story in this lesson. Now in that story, I told you the story from Michael’s point of view and the story was told as if it had already happened in the past. So we have come to the end of this point of view lesson so I would like you to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days because I want you to learn the material deeply. And I don’t you to memorize anything when you’re listening to the lesson.

I just want you to try and understand what’s happening in each story. Okay, so listen to the story and, this is important, remember the point of view the story is being told from as you listen to it. Okay, and then just try and understand what’s happening. Just do it, relax, sit back and, y’know, listen and try and have some fun, okay? Don’t get stressed out, y’know, if you’re nice and calm you’ll probably learn the material better because you won’t be stressed out.
