Good Fight VIP – Mini Story
Hi, this is AJ. Welcome my VIP to the mini story lesson. Let’s get started.
There was a guy. His name was John and John loved tea. In fact, when he was young, he was always drinking tea.
What was he always drinking?
Tea, of course. He was always drinking tea.
And who was always drinking tea?
Well, when he was young, John was always drinking tea.
Now, when he was young, was he always drinking coffee?
No, he was not always drinking coffee.
What was he always drinking when he was young?
Well, when he was young, he was always drinking tea.
One day, when he was 17 years old, he was sitting and drinking tea with his mom and his mom asked him, “What’s the best tea in the world?” And Johnny said, “I don’t know.”
When did his mom ask the question?
Well, when they were drinking tea or while they were drinking tea.
So, what were they doing when Johnny’s mom asked the question?
They were drinking tea together.
And who was or who were drinking tea together?
Johnny and his mother.
So, while they were drinking tea, what did his mom ask?
She asked, “Johnny, what’s the best tea in the world?” When did she ask this?
Well, when they were sitting together and drinking tea or while they were sitting together and drinking tea.
While they were drinking tea she asked, “What’s the best tea in all of the world?” Johnny thought and he thought and he realized he did not know and so Johnny decided to travel the whole world and find the best tea. First, he went to England and he met the Queen of England.
So, where did he go first?
First, he went to England.
And who did he meet in England?
He met the Queen of England.
Why did he meet the Queen of England?
Well, because he wanted to drink tea with her.
And did he drink tea with the Queen of England?
He did. He visited Buckingham Palace, where she lives, and he drank tea with the Queen of England.
And who drank tea with the Queen of England?
Johnny did. Johnny drank tea with the Queen of England.
And while he was drinking with her he asked her, “Queen, what’s the best tea in the world?” And she said, “Go to India. All the best tea comes from Darjeeling, India.”
So, when did he ask her the question?
Well, while he was drinking with her. While he was drinking tea with her, at that exact moment in the past, he asked her, “What’s the best tea in the world?” Now, did he ask her while they were playing polo together?
No, he did not ask her while they were playing polo together.
Did he ask her while they were walking together?
No, that’s not when he asked her.
When did he ask her?
He asked her while they were drinking together. He asked her while they were drinking together.
And what did he ask her?
He asked her, “What’s the best tea in the world?” What’s the best tea in the world?
And what did she say?
She said, “Go to India. All the best tea comes from Darjeeling in India.” (Darjeeling is a City in India.)
So, while he was drinking with her he asked her, “What’s the best tea in the world?” And she said, “Go to India. All the best tea comes from Darjeeling.” You can hear that word “asked”. The present and the past, it’s a very, very small difference in the pronunciation. So, “ask”, that’s the present. You could say, did he ask her? In the past it’s “asked”. There’s a “t” on the end and sometimes it’s hard to hear that. “Asked, asked, asked”, that’s the past. Yesterday, he asked her. You say “ask” a-sk and then you add a “t” sound “asked, asked”.
Don’t get frustrated. Just listen for it as best you can and do the best you can. If you don’t do the “t” sound it’s not a big problem. It sounds almost the same anyway. People won’t notice. They will not notice, so don’t worry about it.
So, back to our story…
So, while he was drinking tea with her he asked her, “What’s the best tea in the world?” and she said “Go to India. All the best tea comes from Darjeeling.” Of course, he next went to Darjeeling, India, up in the mountains in Eastern India and he walked around the Town of Darjeeling. One day, he met a holy man sitting under a tree sipping tea. He met an Indian holy man sitting under a tree sipping tea.
What was the holy man doing?
He was sipping tea.
“Sipping” means to just drink very, very slowly, not drinking fast. It’s the opposite of drinking fast. “To sip” means to drink very slowly.
And who was sipping tea under a tree?
A holy man; a religious man.
“Holy” is a little bit different than “religious”. “Religious” means someone who’s part of a certain religion, but “holy man” is really somebody who is like a saint or something; a very, very special, wonderful person of any religion.
So, he met a holy man sitting under a tree sipping tea. The man was sipping tea when he met him and Johnny sat with him and they drank together and they meditated together, “ohm, ohm”. That’s the sound they made as they meditated, ohm. And while they were sitting and meditating together the holy man said, “Darjeeling black tea is he best, but China has the most aromatic tea.” When did the man say this?
Well, while they were sitting and meditating. As they were sitting and meditating, while they were sitting and meditating, when they were sitting and meditating, the holy man said, “Darjeeling black tea is the best, but China has the most aromatic tea.” Now, that word “aromatic” means to smell good. So, it means the tea that smells very good. Aromatic tea would be a tea that has a good smell. So, the most aromatic tea would be the tea that smells the very best. So, the holy man said, “Darjeeling black tea is the best,” in his opinion, “but China has the most aromatic tea.” China has the tea that smells the best.
When did he say this?
Well, he said it while he was sitting with Johnny and meditating with Johnny.
So, what were they doing together at that time?
They were sitting and meditating together.
Who was sitting and meditating together?
Johnny and the Indian holy man. Johnny and the holy man.
And what were they doing together at that time in the past?
They were sitting and meditating together.
So, Johnny and the holy man were sitting and meditating together and that’s when the holy man said, “Darjeeling black tea is the best, but China has the most aromatic tea.” And so, of course, Johnny next went to China. He went looking for a tea expert and, eventually, he found a man named Pai Mae, a wise master.
Pai Mae said, “If you fight me and win, I will tell you the secret of the best tea in the world.” And so Johnny attacked him and they fought and they fought and they fought and they fought (insert fighting sounds). They fought and they fought and they fought and they fought for 29 days.
For how many days did they fight?
They fought for 29 days.
And who fought for 29 days?
Well, Johnny and Pai Mae. Johnny and Pai Mae fought each other for 29 days.
Did they fight for 29 hours?
No.
Did they drink tea for 29 days?
No.
What did they do for 29 days?
They fought each other. They had a big, big fight; a long fight.
They fought and they fought and they fought and they fought and they fought for 29 long days and, finally, on the 29th day, while they were still fighting, Pai Mae said, “You have passed the test. I will tell you the secret. Go to Kyoto, Japan. In the Silver Temple you will find the strongest and healthiest tea in all of the world.” Did Pai Mae say this after they stopped fighting?
No, no, no, not after they stopped fighting. He said it while they were still fighting. As they were fighting, Pai Mae said “You have passed the test. Now I will tell you. Go to Kyoto, Japan. In the Silver Temple you’ll find the strongest and healthiest tea in the world.”
So, who was Pai Mae fighting when he said this?
Pai Mae was fighting Johnny as he said this or when he said this or while he said this.
(You can use any of those. It’s all the same, when, while, as.) So, as they were fighting Pai Mae said, you’ve passed the test. Go to Kyoto, there you will find the strongest and healthiest tea in the world.
So, did he say this before they fought or as they were fighting?
Well, of course, he said it as they were fighting, while they were fighting. During the fight he said, “You’ve passed the test. Go to Kyoto. In the Silver Temple you’ll find the strongest and healthiest tea in the world.” He said this while they were fighting.
And so Johnny took his advice. Johnny followed his advice; took his advice.
It’s a common phrase. We say you take advice from someone. If someone tells you something to do or makes a suggestion and you do it then we say you take their advice.
You’re taking their advice.
So, whose advice did Johnny take?
Johnny took Pai Mae’s advice. He followed Pai Mae’s suggestion.
So, he took Pai Mae’s advice and he went to Kyoto, Japan. And when he got to Kyoto, Japan he went to the Silver Temple of Kyoto and there he drank tea with the monks and it was the strongest and the healthiest tea in all of the world. And because he drank that tea, Johnny lived for 1,000 years.
And that is the end of our mini story. I hope you enjoyed it. As usual, just listen to it.
Answer the questions. Answer with simple short answers. One word is enough or a couple words is okay. Listen to this mini story every day for at least one week, two weeks is even better.
All right, I’ll see you for the next lesson. Have a great day, bye-bye.
