Doing Something Right – Mini Story

Welcome to the mini-story for this month’s lesson.

Let’s begin.

Nicola is a woman her best friends are Jimmy the monkey and Heva the dog. Together they are treasure hunters. Their rival is Getty the rat.

Rival is competitor. Their rival is Getty the rat. Is Getty their friend or their rival?

Getty the giant rat is their rival he competes with them. He’s not their friend.

So, their rival is Getty the rat he has been their rival ever sense they became treasure seekers. They have competed with Getty several times in the past.

Have they competed with Getty or have they competed with someone else?

They have competed with Getty.

They recently made a lot of money when they got a stolen treasure from the gangster Amile Rothchild.

Who recently made a lot of money?

Nicola, Jimmy the money and Heva the dog recently made a lot of money.

How did they make a lot of money?

By getting a stolen treasure from a gangster.

Did they get a stolen treasure from a museum?

No, they didn’t get a stolen treasure from a museum they got it from a gangster.

And what was the gangster’s name?

Amile Rothchild was the gangster’s name.

Their rival Getty the rat was caught by the gangster.

Did Getty get the treasure from the gangster?

No, Getty didn’t get the treasure Getty got caught. But Nicola, Heva and Jimmy escaped and became rich.

Nicola, Jimmy and Heva go on a vacation to Bangkok, Thailand to enjoy their money. But on day when they enter their hotel room their rival is there Getty the rat and Getty has six tuff gangsters with him.

Is Getty alone?

No, Getty is no alone.

How is with Getty?

Six tuff gangsters are with Getty.

Where are they?

They’re in the hotel room of Jimmy, Nicola, and Heva.

And where is the hotel room?

In Bangkok, Thailand.

So Jimmy, Nicola, and Heva enter their hotel room and there is Getty the rat with six tuff gangsters and Getty says “Well, well, well you three seem to be enjoying yourselves.” “Getty” they all say together. “That’s right it’s me the one you left behind the one you left to be caught by the gangster, the one you betray.” But Nicola says “We didn’t leave you we tried to help you, but.”

Rothchild he works for the big gangster Rothchild now. And he says that Nicola, Jimmy, and Heva must work for him too.

Nicola say’s “I knew this was too good to be true what do we have to do?” Getty say’s “you must steal the Emerald Buddha from the Grand Palace here in Bangkok then you deliver the Buddha to Rothchild do that and he’ll let you live.”

What must they steal?

They must steal the Emerald Buddha.

What kind of Buddha must they steal?

Emerald.

What is an emerald?

An emerald is a kind of gem a kind of jewel it’s green worth a lot of money.

What must they do with the Buddha after they steal it?

They must give it to the gangster Rothchild.

Getty say’s “you have two weeks and you know what happens if you fail.” Getty rises and strolls out of the hotel room with the gangsters behind. To stroll means to walk slowly.

Does Getty run out of the hotel room?

No, he doesn’t run out of the hotel room he strolls he walks slowly out of the hotel room.

Who strolls out of the room with him?

The six gangsters the six gangsters also stroll out of the room.

After they leave Nicola say’s “we can’t steal that it’s a revered national treasure of Thailand.” Revered, revered means honored. Revered means worshiped, revered means loved.

What is revered by the Thai people?

The Emerald Buddha. The Thai people love the Emerald Buddha it’s a national treasure for them.

Do they love the Emerald Buddha or did they hate it?

Nicola say’s “I should never have become a treasure hunter maybe after all this I can go back to teaching again.” Suddenly Jimmy jumps in the air and snaps his fingers “I’ve got it I’ve got an idea” say’s Jimmy. “Oh…no what is it?” asked Nicola. “Don’t worry I’ll take care of everything” say’s Jimmy. Jimmy calls the tattooed man and old contact from Bangkok. The two have lunch together and Jimmy tells his plan to the tattooed man.

Is the tattooed man an old friend?

Not exactly an old friend he’s an old contact. A contact is someone you know maybe from work, but they’re not necessarily a friend maybe it’s not such a close relationship. So, he’s an old contact from Bangkok.

They have lunch together Jimmy tells his plan to the tattooed man and in fact the tattooed man is an enemy of Getty the rat so he’s happy to help Jimmy. A week later Jimmy, Nicola, and Heva break into the Grand Palace at night and steal the Emerald Buddha.

Do they walk into the Grand Palace at night?

No, they don’t walk into it they break into it. Right it’s locked and they break the lock and get in they break into the Grand Palace.

After they break into the Grand Palace what do they do?

They steal the Emerald Buddha.

Where did they put the Emerald Buddha?

In the trunk of a rented car. Now the British say in the boot they call it the boot it’s the area of the car the back area you open it up and you can put things in it. In North America we call it the trunk the trunk of a car.

No, they don’t put it in the passenger area they put it in the trunk the back part. They put it in the trunk of a rented car.

They put the Emerald Buddha in the trunk of a rented car and they drive off. Then they call Getty the rat on a cell phone. “We have the Emerald Buddha” say’s Jimmy “were ready to give it to Rothchild.” Getty calls back “meet at the old night market tomorrow night at 11 p.m.” The next night Rothchild the ruthless gangster arrives in a black limo at the night market.

What kind gangster is he?

He’s ruthless. Ruthless means extremely vicious extremely mean. It means without kindness. Ruthless means without kindness.

Is he kind and friendly gangster?

He’s not a kind and friendly gangster he’s a ruthless gangster. A mean vicious violent gangster he’s ruthless he’s cruel.

Who is a ruthless gangster?

Rothchild, Rothchild is a ruthless gangster. Rothchild, Rothchild is a ruthless gangster.

And Rothchild the ruthless gangster arrives in what kind of car?

The ruthless gangster Rothchild arrives in a black limousine.

Where does the ruthless gangster arrive?

At the night market.

Nicola, Jimmy and Heva arrive in the rented car they get out and they open the trunk. Heva grabs the Emerald Buddha and carries it to the limo.

Do they open the hood or the trunk?

They open the trunk the hood is the front part that covers the engine. They don’t open the hood they open the trunk the back part.

Where is the Emerald Buddha in their car?

It’s in the trunk.

So, what did they open?

They opened the trunk.

They open the trunk.

And Heva gabs the Emerald Buddha and carries it to the limo. Just as Rothchild is getting out of his limo police cars arrive with lights on and sirens blaring they surround everyone.

Who arrives?

The police arrive.

What are the sirens doing?

There blaring. To blare means to make a very loud sound. So the siren is the sound on the police car. It’s in different sounds in each country right? If a siren blares it means it means it’s making a loud sound.

So, are the siren quite or are they blaring?

The sirens are blaring the sirens are making a loud sound. Very loud the sirens are blaring when the police arrive.

And the police surround everyone. The tattooed man is with the police. He points to the limo and the police surround Rothchild’s car.

Which car does the tattooed man point to?

The tattooed man points to the limo and the police surround it.

Rothchild is arrested and the Emerald Buddha is returned to the Grand Palace. The tattooed man receives a big reward from the Thai police. “Finally” he says “I’m rich.”

And that is the end of our mini-story. As usual listen to it everyday pause and answer the questions. When your alone answer the questions loudly you can just shout one or two words that’s enough. Keep your shoulders back have a big smile a lot of energy. When you’re out in public maybe you can’t shout if other people are around, but you can still have your shoulders back you can smile go for a walk have a lot of energy. It will help.
