DIY – VIP POV

Hello, this is A. J., welcome to the point-of-view stories for this month’s lesson. Let’s get started.

Version number one…

Nicola, Heva the dog and Chimmy the chimp are treasure hunters. They were in Hong Kong look for the famous nunchucks of Bruce Lee. Their rival, Geddy the rat, was also looking for the nunchucks. Nicola, Heva and Chimmy got a tip. They heard that a cook on a dinner cruise knew how to get the nunchucks, so they went on the dinner cruise.

They went back to the kitchen to find the cook and talk to him. When they entered the kitchen, they saw the cook and he was screaming. A giant rat was grabbing his throat choking him.

“Geddy the rat”, the three said simultaneously. “You three again,” said Geddy. You’re too late, fools.” Geddy threw the cook against the wall then turned to face Chimmy, Heva and Nicola.

The three rush forward to save the cook. Chimmy and Heva jumped on Geddy as Nicola grabbed the cook to rescue him. Chimmy, Heva and Geddy wrestled and fought and struggled.

Chimmy was fast and Heva was very strong, but Geddy was also strong and he was mean and tough. Geddy kicked Chimmy and threw Heva then ran to the back of the kitchen, out the back of the boat and dove off the boat into the water. He swam away and escaped.

Nicola took care of the cook who was lying on the floor. “I told the rat where to find the nunchucks”, gasped the cook. “Where?” yelled Chimmy. “Chimmy, he’s hurt. Leave him alone”, said Nicola. “You shouldn’t go there’, said the cook. “The nunchucks are owned by Emile Rothschild. He’s a horrible man, don’t become his enemy.” “Please, just tell us where do find the nunchucks”, said Chimmy. “Chimmy, stop”, said Nicola. The cook shook his head and raised an arm. “Okay, I’ll tell you, only because I hate Rothschild”, said the book. “They’re shooting a martial arts movie on The Peak. Rothschild lent them the nunchucks to use in the movie. They’ll be on the set.”

Nicola, Heva and Chimmy return to their hotel in Hong Kong. The next day, Chimmy, Heva and Nicola went to The Peak of Hong Kong Island. There was a big movie set there with lots of workers and actors. The three went to the casting office and signed up as extras for the movie.

Once on the set, they snuck around and searched for the nunchucks.

They went to the prop tent and entered. Inside the prop tent they saw a familiar face. Geddy the rat was already there and he was holding the nunchucks. “You three are becoming quite annoying”, said Geddy. “You’re the annoying one, you giant rat”, said Heva. As the three moved towards Geddy he laughed. As everyone prepared to fight, there were loud shouts outside the tent. “Security, Security, someone is stealing the props!” Men in black suits rushed into the tent.

One yelled, “Hold it right there.”

And that’s the end of our first version of the story. Our second version is in the future, so you can imagine it out far ahead of you in the future. You’re looking t it from the present seeing it off in the future, this whole story.

Nicola, Heva the dog and Chimmy the chimp are treasure hunters. They’ll be in Hong Kong looking for the famous nunchucks of Bruce Lee. Their rival, Geddy the giant rat, will also be looking for the nunchucks. Nicola, Heva and Chimmy are going to get a tip. They’ll hear that a cook on a dinner cruise knows how to get the nunchucks, so they’ll go on the dinner cruise.

They’ll go back to the kitchen to find the cook and talk to him. When they enter, they’ll see the cook and he’ll be screaming. A giant rat will be grabbing his throat choking him. “Geddy the rat”, the three will say simultaneously. “You three again”, Geddy’ll say. “You’re too late, fools.” Geddy is then gonna throw the cook against a wall and turn to face Chimmy, Heva and Nicola. (Of course, ‘gonna’ means going to.)

The three will rush forward to save the cook. Chimmy and Heva will jump on Geddy as Nicola grabs the cook to rescue him. Chimmy, Heva and Geddy wrestle and fight and struggle.

One will yell, “Hold it right there!” Now, of course, you’ll see when we talk about the future that sometimes we can mix the future with the present. If we understand already that we’re talking about the future that’s fine. Just listen to each version of the story several times, repeat them each day again and again for 10 days, 14 days, even 30 days or more. As you do this, your spoken grammar will automatically improve. You’ll get better and better. Don’t think about grammar rules. Don’t analyze the grammar. Just relax and listen to all of the story versions every day.
