Collaborate – POV

Welcome to the point of view lesson for this month. Our first version is in the past, same story, but imagine that it happened in the past.

So there was a woman and her name is Nicola. Her best friends were Chimmy the monkey and Heva the dog and they were treasure hunters. At the time of the story they are on the Hawaiian island of Maui. They were being chased by gangsters. Nicola was driving their car as fast as she could. They were being chased by a motorcycle and by four black BMWs, full of vicious thugs. Nicola drove up the winding road to the top of the volcano trying to escape the gangsters.

Finally, she reached the top. Nicola, Chimmy and Heva jump out of the car and ran to the building that’s on top of the mountain. The wind was blowing and it was very cold. There was fog blowing across the top of the mountain. It was night. It was dark. As they ran to the building, the motorcycle and the BMWs arrived. Four gangsters jump out of each car, and a giant rat jumped off the motorcycle. Nicola tried to open the door of the building, but it was. The lights were off. There was no one inside.

The gangsters ran to the building, along with the rat. They surrounded the Nicola, Chimmy the monkey and Heva the dog. The rat spoke and said, well, well, and here we are again. The rat’s name was Getty. He was the rival, the competitor of Nicola, Heva and Chimmy. Nicola was scared. She had never been in a fight before. Getty wave his hand and the gangsters move forward. Heva jumped forward to fight them. Chimmy, as well and so the fight began.

Heva, who is very strong, fought and wrestled with multiple gangsters. Chimmy who was very fast leapt and jumped and hit and fought. Getty, the giant rat, folded his arms and watched, looking at Nicola and smiling. Nicola watched her friends fight. Getty laughed as the fight continued. Heva threw off four gangsters down the hill and knocked out one more.

Chimmy knocked out two more gangsters, one by one. But, they got very tired fighting all these gangsters and finally, five gangsters grabbed Heva and pinned him onto the ground. Four others grabbed Chimmy and pinned him as well. Nicola’s stomach was tight and she felt almost sick with fear. She looked at Getty, who was smirking in victory. Getty, the giant rat, strolled towards her and then Nicola snapped. She suddenly yelled and charged Getty. She reached back and hit Getty on the jaw. Getty was knocked backwards and lost his balance. He stumbled to the edge of the peak, tripped and rolled over the edge into the darkness, down the volcano, down the mountain.

Nicola immediately turned and charged the nearest gangster. Chimmy yelled and began to fight again. He kicked one of the gangsters down the hill. Heva was inspired

by Nicola too and he threw off three gangsters and knocked them both down, down, down the mountain unconscious. A few gangsters remained. They looked at each other. Then they looked at Nicola, Heva and Chimmy and they ran. They ran to one of the cars, jumped in and sped away. Nicola walked to the edge of the peak and looked over. There was no sign of Getty, the rat.

Chimmy said to Nicola, wow, I didn’t know you could fight like that. And Heva said yeah, that was great. Nicola said, I didn’t either, but I didn’t want to see you guys get hurt. Then Chimmy said let’s get going, and the three walked down to their car. As they drove away down the mountain, Nicola smiled and said, tonight we’re staying at the Four Seasons Hotel. We’ve earned some luxury. I want a great meal and a massage at the spa. Yes, yelled Heva and Chimmy, simultaneously as they drove down the mountain towards the beach resort.

That is our first version of the story, as if it happened in the past. Now let’s imagine that same story happening in the future. It’s up in the future at some point. We can imagine it. We can see it. We know what’s going to happen in the future.

So in the future there will be a woman named Nicola. Her best friends will be Chimmy the monkey and Heva the dog and together they’ll be treasure hunters. At the time of the story they’ll on the Hawaiian island of Maui. In fact, at the exact time of the story, they’ll be chased by gangsters. Nicola will be driving their car as fast as she can. And behind her, behind the car, black BMWs and a motorcycle will be chasing them. Nicola will drive up the winding road to the top of the volcano, trying to escape the gangsters.

Finally, their car will reach the top. Nicola, Chimmy and Heva are gonna jump out of the car and they’re gonna run to a building that’s on top of the mountain. (Gonna means going to. We use it for the future, it’s a casual way to say going to). As they run to the building, the wind will be howling. The wind will be blowing. It will be very cold at the top and it will be dark, because it will be nighttime.

Then, the motorcycle and the BMWs will arrive, and four gangsters will jump out of each car and the giant rat will jump off his motorcycle. Nicola will try to open the door but it’ll be locked and the lights will be off inside. There will be no one in the building. And then the gangsters are gonna run to the building, along with the rat, and they’ll surround the three of them. Then Getty the rat will say, well, well, and here we are again. Nicola, is going to be scared, because at that time she will have never been in a fight. She’ll have never been in a fight at that point.

Getty will wave his hand and the gangsters will move forward, and Heva will jump at them and begin to fight and Chimmy will jump forward too and so the fight will begin. Heva, who’s very strong, will fight and wrestle with multiple gangsters and Chimmy, who is very fast, will leap and jump and hit them. And Getty, the rat, will just fold his arms, looking at Nicola and smiling.

The fight will continue. Heva will throw four gangsters down the hill and knock out one more and Chimmy will knock out two gangsters one by one, but they’ll get tired from fighting all of these people, and finally five gangsters will pin Heva to the ground. Four other gangsters will grab Chimmy and pin him to the ground. Nicola will be afraid. She’ll look at her friends being beaten. Then she’ll look at Getty, smirking. Getty will stroll forwards towards her and then Nicola will snap. Something will change suddenly inside her and she’ll yell. She’ll reach back and hit Getty hard, in the jaw.

Getty will be knocked backwards. He’ll lose his balance. He’ll stumble over the edge of the peak and roll down the mountain. Nicola will immediately turn and charge the nearest gangster. Chimmy will be inspired and will begin fighting again. Heva will be inspired by Nicola and he’ll begin fighting again. They’ll kick several more gangsters down the hill. They’ll throw more gangsters down the hill, until finally, only a few gangsters remain. The gangsters will look at each other and then back at Nicola, Heva and Chimmy, and then they’ll run.

They’ll run to one of the BMW cars. They’ll jump in and they’ll drive away. Nicola, will walk to the edge of the peak and look over. There’ll be no sign of Getty the rat. Then Chimmy is gonna say to Nicola, wow, I didn’t know you could fight like that. And Heva’s gonna say yeah, that was great and Nicola, she’ll say I didn’t know I could fight like that either, I just didn’t want to see you two get hurt.

The three are then gonna walk to their car. They’ll get inside and they’ll drive away from the peak. As they do, Nicola will smile. She’ll say tonight we’re staying at the Four Seasons Hotel, we’ve earned some luxury. I want a great meal and a massage at the spa. Chimmy and Heva will yell simultaneously, yes! As they drive down towards the beach resort.

That is the end of our point of view stories. Just listen to them. Notice how the verbs change from past to the future and in our regular mini story, which was the present. Don’t think about grammar rules, just listen and let the grammar changes come to you naturally. You’ll begin to feel them and understand them naturally, and you’ll get better and better with your grammar automatically, month by month.
