Be The Media – Mini Story

Welcome to the mini story. Let’s get started.

Nicola is a woman. Her best friends are Heva the dog and Chimmy the monkey. Together they are treasure hunters. They are on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

Where are they?

On Maui. On the Hawaiian island of Maui.

Why are they on Maui?

They’re hiding from a dangerous gangster who wants to find them.

For one month, Nicola, Chimmy and Heva stay in the small town of Haiku.

Where is Haiku?

On Maui. It’s on the island of Maui.

Nicola, Chimmy and Heva stay with Heva’s friend, Lorraine. Her house is in a beautiful place on the green side of the island, covered in tropical plants.

She enjoys the relaxed life on Maui, but Chimmy is bored. After a month of relaxing he’s bored and restless. (Restless means having a lot of energy, wanting to move and do something. You can’t stand still. You can’t stay still. That’s restless)

Is Chimmy relaxed?

No, Chimmy is not relaxed he’s restless. He’s bored and restless. He wants to do something.

Who is restless?

Chimmy. Chimmy is restless.

So, because he’s restless he opens his computer to search for something to do. While surfing the web, he finds an article about Maui kite surfing.

What kind of surfing?

Kite surfing. (Kite surfing is a kind of surfing that uses a parachute, it looks like a parachute. You use the wind and a board to surf, kite surfing. The article says that Maui is the best place in the world for kite surfing. Chimmy reads more about kite surfing. When you kite surf you wear a board on your feet and then you hold a giant kite. The kite catches the wind and pulls you through the water and over the waves.

Wow says Chimmy, I’ve gotta try that! (Gotta means must, I must try that. I’ve gotta try that. We can also say I have to try that. Same meanings. I have to means I have to try that. I’ve gotta try that. I must try that, same basic meaning.)

Chimmy immediately calls a kite surfing school and books 20 lessons. (To book means to reserve).

Chimmy. Chimmy books 20 lessons.

Every day Chimmy goes to the beach to learn how to kite surf. In the beginning it’s very difficult. He has to learn how to control the kite. With the strong wind it’s very powerful. Then he has to learn how to stand on the board.

Is kite surfing easy for Chimmy, the monkey?

No, it’s not easy for Chimmy the monkey, it’s very difficult.

Finally, he has to learn how to surf while being pulled by the wind and the kite. After many lessons he manages to kite surf. (To manage to means to means to be able to. He’s able to kite surf. He manages to kite surf).

What does he manage to do after many lessons?

Kite surf. He manages to kite surf.

And who manages to finally kite surf?

Chimmy. Chimmy, the monkey finally manages to kite surf and it’s fantastic.

He zooms over the water. He jumps over the waves. Then turns around and surfs over and down the waves.

He zooms. (To zoom means to go very fast) He goes fast over the water. He zooms over the water. This is a very casual slang or idiom. He zooms over the water.

What does he zoom over?

The water. Chimmy zooms over the water. Chimmy goes fast over the water.

After he zooms over the water, what does he do?

!He jumps over the waves. Then he turns around and surfs down the waves.

Every day Chimmy goes to Nash Beach to kite surf. (Nash Beach is the name, it’s the name) .

What does he do at Nash Beach?

Well, of course, he kite surfs. He kite surfs at Nash Beach.

And Chimmy becomes a great kite surfer. He even learns how to do big jumps in the air. He learns how to do all kinds of amazing tricks. The other kite surfers are very impressed with Chimmy. (To be impressed with someone means to respect them. Say I’m impressed with Chimmy, means I respect Chimmy or I admire Chimmy).

So who/whom are impressed with Chimmy?

The kite surfers are impressed with Chimmy.

Who is impressed with Chimmy?

The kite surfers. The kite surfers are very impressed with Chimmy.

Yes they do. They are impressed with Chimmy.

Why are they impressed with Chimmy?

Because he becomes a great kite surfer, and so other kite surfers are very impressed with Chimmy.

Eventually, a reporter comes to the beach and takes pictures of the amazing kite surfing monkey and Chimmy becomes a local kite surfing legend. (A local legend is a local famous person. It means you’re famous, but only locally, only for your small area. You’re not famous all over the world. You’re not famous nationally. You’re only famous locally, in your local town or city. We call that a local legend).

Does Chimmy become a local legend on Maui?

Yes he does. He becomes a local kite surfing legend.

What kind of local legend does Chimmy become?

Chimmy becomes a local kite surfing legend. He becomes famous on Maui for kite surfing. He becomes a local legend.
