Lesson D

Little-known facts

  1. Listening

I didn’t know that!

A. Listen. What do these people say about themselves? Write the names in the chart.

Diana: Diana would you like some of this fruit salad? On, no, thanks. I’m allergic to strawberries. Really? I didn’t know that. Yeah, if I eat strawberries, I get very sick.

Lincoln: You must be really patient Lincoln. Why do you say that? Well, you’re a teacher. You have to be very patient to be a teacher, right? Yeah, I guess so. I mean, I am patient by students but I can be very impatient sometimes. Really? Yeah, I get pretty impatient when I drive in heavy traffic.

Miguel: How many languages do you speak Miguel? Three, English, Spanish and Tagalog. Tagalog? Where do they speak that? In the Philippines. I grew up there. No way! Are you serious? Yeah, I lived in the Philippines for 10 years. That’s why I can speak Tagalog.

Natalie: You have a really nice name Natalie. Oh, thanks. You know, Natalie’s not really my first name. It isn’t? No, my first name is really Ashley. Natalie is my middle name. Oh, so what’s wrong with Ashley? That’s a nice name too. Yeah. Well, nothing’s wrong with it. I just like Natalie better.

Penny: I’m thinking about taking flying lessons, Penny. Really? How exciting. You know, when I was a kid, I really wanted to be a pilot. Yeah? Why was that? Well, my grand parents lived really far away. I wanted to fly so I could visit them. Oh, what a nice idea.
