Betty: Hello, Grace, did you have a good holiday?

Grace: Oh hello, Betty. Yes, thank you, it was lovely for the first week. But after that, of course, the weather was simply terrible!

B: Oh dear, what a pity! It was very cold here, you know.

G: Was it? Well, in Florida - did you hear about it? - we had this awful tornado!

B: Oh yes, I saw it on the news!

Oh, was there a lot of damage? Your hotel was all right, was it?

G: Well, no, we had to move out actually, to another hotel. I mean, it wasn’t too bad, and nobody was hurt, and they were doing their best, but it was still very windy, and really quite cold, and there didn’t seem to be any heating or anything.

B: Oh, I never realised. Poor you! Did it rain as well?

G: Oh yes - so of course we couldn’t swim, or walk on the beach, or any of the things we wanted to do. Such a pity! Well, it’s a relief to get home and get back to normal, I can tell you.

B: Well, we did have a little rain here last week, but on the whole it’s been pretty dry, just very cold, you know …
